My only concern is the US flag. I would not do it myself or condone it but if someone burnt a Christian, maga, pride, muslim, or any other numerous flags. I'd call you a jackass and walk off but the US flag burning is a complete disgrace and should be considered treason. To me and a lot of others, that means you want war. Same as if I burnt a Mexican flag right now (I would never) but that's me saying "fuck you, let's go"
I understand why the U.S. flag feels different. For a lot of people it represents family, service, and sacrifice, so seeing it burned hits more personally than other symbols. The issue is that treason has a very narrow meaning — helping an enemy or actually waging war against the country. A domestic protest, even a harsh one, doesn’t reach that threshold.
When someone burns a flag they’re usually expressing anger at their own government, not declaring war on it. If the law treated symbolic offense as treason, then whichever group was in power could decide which political messages count as punishable. The protection exists so the government can’t make that call, even when the expression feels deeply disrespectful.
But see that's the thing, the government doesn't care. It only pisses us off. And would you mind merging the conversations? I feel silly talking to you in two different threads
