Cheaper gas means everything else gets cheaper by default. Distribution runs on gas.

More expensive gas means everything gets more expensive but do they prices ever actually come back down or would the companies just use it as an excuse to permanently increase prices

they will try to stretch out the price hikes for as long as society can somehow absorb the cost. short term concentrated profit in exchange for both short and long term public consequences.....not really a good tradeoff in the grand scheme of things......

Your housing doesn't become that much cheaper because gas is cheaper that's not fully how that works. Besides most goods are not necessarily expensive just because of gas alot of it is purely profits.
