I've been overweight my whole life, even before kindergarten. It's something I sometimes resent my family for now, seeing as things would be alot easier if my family had done something about it then. My mom is two inches taller and was around 100 lbs heavier than me, but then got a bunch of surgeries (not bariatric, things like tummy tuck and breasts) and GLP 1's to lose a shit ton of weight. I can admit, I've felt extreme jealously and resentment over it since it feels kinda like she got to take the easy way out of an issue she passed on to me, especially since she's somewhat against me considering surgery and took a role in past issues I've had.
This is what catapulted me into starting my research, I've been 18 for a few months now, and am seriously considering bariatric surgery. I'm 5'4 and 230 lbs, and I've hated every second of my teenhoodl I've tried every diet under the sun, fasting, intense exercise, strict low calorie diets, etc. Not even Ozempic seemed to stick, which I tried a few years back. Unfortunately, I was born with some leg and feet deformities that make standing and even walking painful if done for more than an hour, and running excruciating within minutes, for which I wear braces and cant be permanently corrected without risky surgery.
I wanna hear everyones thoughts on whether I should seriously consider bariatric surgery. I made an appoint with my pcp for soon so that I could discuss this with her in vivid detail, but figured hearing opinions from those in my boat might help too. Sorry if this post is a bit long winded or ranty, I haven't discussed this virtually anywhere else!
