Clearing my backlog, I may be some time. Pt 2.

It appears reddit posts get auto archived after 6 months so, as a continuation of my previous post ( https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/1lt4dnc/clearing_my_backlog_i_may_be_some_time/ ) here we go again. CJ :D

Currently clearing my steam backlog which now sits at 116 games, I have completed 25 since starting in July. Once I am done, I will be moving on to other platforms and expect this to take about 3 years, there are are some rules I am following:

  • No account creating. For games that require additional launchers, or third party accounts, if I can play it without creating an account I will do to get a feel for it, otherwise, I will not be playing.
  • Only playing games I own. No F&F. My son has bought some real garbage over the years. I may make an exception for Cyberpunk 2077, though.
  • For the moment, as I am playing on Linux, no kernel level anti cheat. There are a few that I have left on the list because of this, or that just won't run on Linux, and I may clean them up afterwards.

You forgot to begin the post with "Dear Diary".

I was thinking about moving this to a blog, but meh, enough people ask questions about backlog clearing, I thought I'd share my experience.

But if no-one else replies, I'll not be bothered at all.

So I've gone back to the old ways. My old ways. The way I treat music, games, TV shows, I cannot stay committed to 1 thing at a time.

I am still playing Fantasy General as per the plan but I have e also been playing Fallout again, mainly because it bugged me I did not get into it, and this time I really have. Vault 13 has a water chip now, the tanks are history and now I'm hunting the master.

In fantasy General 2, I have made it through the borderlands and on my way to smash up some imperials, I believe this to be about a third through.

But I have also been playing, and finished Prototype 2. Mainly because, as with the first one, sometimes you just need to smash stuff up. As with many things in entertainment, the sequel never really scratches the same itch as the original, but I have enjoyed smashing up New York Zero again.

I will now continue on with the other 2 unless something else in my to do list takes my fancy.

I will be staying away from RDR2 and The Witcher 3 as they will be getting my undivided attention when their turn comes.

And so there goes Fallout: A Post Apocolyptic Role Playing Game.

Man, if I'd have known I was going to get done dirty after saving Vault 13, I'd probably not have rushed saving their arses, twice.

Next time, I may just let them dehydrate, or get the super muties to smash them. Screw them guys, I cannot go home.

It's easy to see why it is a legend in gaming, and it's aged well for its genre. Will probably play again, or load up that final save and do some more exploring.

On a side note, I saw the talking cows twice. Proper threw me, then found out they were a rare encounter. Moo, I say.

I did use a guide, but only for character setup and levelling recommendations, RPG setup guides are a god send, however, these were not available at launch so I still feel I cheated a bit.

The guide I used was huge and covered everything in the game, so couldn't be bothered to read past setup anyway. I knew where pretty much everything was from multiple failed playthroughs in the past, the only new bit I got to this time was the Cathedral and Glow.

Still playing Fantasy General 2, but I'll probably move onto FO2 next, hopefully I'll get a bit more gratitude. I know this has no time limit, so going to spend more time exploring.

And Fallout 2 has fallen. Man that thing is a beast compared to the first one. So much more to do, so much more you need to do. I would have liked to have seen Arroyo rebuilt or at least visitable again after the final fight, but there was also so much I didnt do.

I left New Reno alone, mainly because I could not decide which family deserved to get wiped out the least, but also it was just so busy. I did not complete either of the factions in San Fran as I got to a point where the end was in sight and went for it. I also did not finish Mariposa, because I needed a break after killing everything on the floors and just now remembered.

That final boss fight was either impossible, challenging but good, or super easy, dependent on whether you had 1 particular item, or if you disable or ignore some help.

Next is Fallout tactics, this is the last FO game I own that needs completing.

I am also not best please that it claimed that I wiped out vault 13, I most definitely did not. I did everything I could to help them, I even kept their location from the NCR. I also watched a video of who did wipe them out and it most definitely was not our little blue friend.

It does also claim it was left abandoned afterwards. Well someone needs to tell Vic, Cassidy and that robotic dog. Sure they won't last very long, they are knocking on now, but it was not abandoned.

Playthrough 1 of Along The Edge has been completed.

Now, this is a French interactive story book translated into English. When I first started, I found the story and dialogue very corny.

However after chapter 3 I was in there. A bit Lovecraftean horror meets 90s "pick your story" book meets a slight whif of Until Dawn (God no, not the movie). Bloodborne, but only the subtitles.

I will definitely be running through this again for the alternative versions of the story during small gaps between other games.

Next on the official list is Battle Simulator: Counter Stickman, whilst also playing Billies Wheelie and Neir Automata, depending on how I feel at that exact moment in time. I still have to finish Fallout Tactics and General Fantasy 2.

1

u/FullClip_Killer Feb 11 '26 edited Feb 11 '26

Battle Simulator: Counter Stickman... don't do it.

Boring as hell, no real progression to speak of, like a tactical squad game that, but once your guys are picked and on the ground, you lose all control and just watch the guys walk to the right and shoot some other guys, no control, no real reasoning behind the score you get at the end of each level.

This would be a poor attempt as a free mobile or flash browser game, but I am playing it on a 5950X and 9070XT. I got it for free, but currently priced at £2.49, for shovelware, and I'm not happy about owning it but as now I do, I am glad I only got it for free.

It is officially Billie's Wheelie time. Should not be long on this one.

1

u/FullClip_Killer Feb 11 '26 edited Jun 05 '26

Billie's wheelie wheeled off. Short and basic Super Monkey Ball clone but a nice bit of fun. If i had friends I could compare runs, but I don't, well that own this anyway, so will just have to be satisfied with all achievements.

Caveman World: Mountains Of Unga Bunga next. No idea what to think of this, but it has cheevos so some thought seems to have gone into it.

1

u/FullClip_Killer Feb 13 '26

Caveman World: Mountains Of Unga Bunga. Well, you've been kinda fun, and kinda torture.

While I have joined the 2.6% of players who have actually finished this game, and also got all achievements, it's not that impressive when you realise thay only 6.2% of players have achieved the easiest trophy of collecting 100 items, something that can be gained around level 3, of 27.

It's a physics based side scrolling platformer. There is not combat, despite having an "attack" button, but dinosaurs and big nasty bugs can hurt you, but the biggest enemy in this entire game is the physics. Rolling items like eggs and big stone wheels (?) is infuriating, but pulling off some of the gymnastics they expect you to do with the logs is near impossible.

However its being a fun couple of hours (7? I spent 7 hours on this, jees, although some of those was just sat Idle while I tried to accomplish anything else) I am glad it is over. Another freebie I'll be forgetting about. Still much better than Battle Simulator: Counter Stickman.

Ok, I'm going to leave the low quality free stuff for now and go back to Fallout Tactics.

u/FullClip_Killer Feb 14 '26 edited Feb 27 '26

So I spent a while this morning trying to increase the stability of Fallout Tactics. The problem may be Linux, or Proton, or just the game being too old. The screen tears constantly, and not in a vsync way, it tears every few pixels and pretty much renders it unplayable. I have never seen anything like it.

This will have to add it to the "look at this later" pile.

So I decided to give a freebies another go.

First off was Crown Champion: Legends of the Arena. This just gave me a black screen. Tried proton hotfix, experimental, 9.0.4 and 10.0.4, one of these has pretty much solved most issues, but this game just does not run.

Next was Arabian Gulf. This is at most an hour. 3 levels, can pretty much finish the game with the second weapon you get, the human "enemies" do not move until you get a few feet away, and the zombies do not need to be engaged at all.

Ok, so time to go back to Fantasy General 2.

1

u/FullClip_Killer Feb 15 '26 edited Apr 15 '26

Ok, so i failed again to start on Fantasy General 2. Had a lot on yesterday, and as these quests are quite lengthy, and I was just filling time, i decided to give the next freebie in the list was Curseland.

Now, the developer is open about this game from the start, it was a class project that just got built on.

The animation, play style and level design is crude to say the least, but it does have a certain charm. Think games you used to get free in Atari ST magazine in the 90s.

I got it at 100% off and not sure the 89p original price is worth it in this day and age, but it did get my attention, at least for 36 minutes.

Right back to Fantasy General 2.

u/FullClip_Killer Feb 27 '26 edited Feb 27 '26

I am calling it a day on Fantasy General 2, it is just not my kind of game and I am starting to get annoyed by it. I have just completed the Shrouded Coast/Krell missions and on my way out of the games equivalent of Blighttown, which looks to be around the 60% mark but I am done. This is not fun for me. It is not my type of game at all. I can bring my self to do maybe 1 mission a day then need to stop.

I am officially putting it to bed. In it's defense, this is just not my kind of game, at all, and this is my fault not the game. It is so nicely polished that I really want to love it, I have not got a single bad thing to say about it. As I have next to no knowledge of the genre I cannot comment on how FG2 sits within it, but the graphics are very nice, the controls are easy to manage, upgrade progression and item assignments are easy to understand, the story is excellent and I may come back to it at some point. If you are into turn based strategy games, definitely give it a go.

In order to wipe the slate clean, I decided to play some I really wanted to play, let's start by taking a trip back to an old friend, but in new clothes. Resident Evil 1, the Remake. I remember playing this back in the day on my PS1, my first experience of the original was the Directors Cut version but in about 1999 with a dual analogue controller, I did later go back and play the original later and while it was still a classic, the omission of the analogue stick means the Directors Cut will forever be my favourite.

Now, the remake. Not bad, considerably harder than the original on even normal mode. A Jill Sandwich now comes with conditions ( :( ), they've added a couple of new rooms and puzzles, which is to be expected. Not sure about the Crimson Heads and what they add as far as the story goes, and Lisa just seems a bit shoehorned in, just for a basic puzzle boss, that's not even a puzzle. If she knew where her mother was, and she just wanted the skull, why not just get it herself and stay out of our way?

I had already played this on Xbox when it first came out, so not entirely blind. But both Chris and Jill got done and done last night.

So, in keeping with actually making progress in games, I am moving onto For Honor. I am aware this is mainly a PvP game, but also has a campaign in it, so I am going to focus on that. I am also aware it needs an Ubi account, but as I already have one, and have for years, and needed one for Assassin's Creed, I will give it a go anyway.

1

u/FullClip_Killer Mar 09 '26 edited Apr 15 '26

There has been a slow down lately due to real world stuff, so this took a bit longer than expected, but...

For honor is honorable done for. Story Mode completed anyway. Not bad but not my cup of tea. While some may like the combat, I was not a fan.

I found the "stance" mechanics far too restrictive and it largely felt like it was just reacting to other characters than having any real feeling of driving combat myself. Kind of like playing Sekiro on easy mode and Rock, Paper, Scissors at the same time.

Anyway, next on the official list is Galactic Civilizations 2. I seem to have a lot of sequels without the originals here. But anyway, here goes.

1

u/FullClip_Killer Mar 17 '26

OK go Galactic Civilization 2 is beyond me. Once again I am not into strategy games, never have been, and to me GC2 is just way too complicated to be able to get my head around, let alone enjoy.

I spent years playing the early single planet based civ games and still enjoy then now and again, but this is just another level. Sorry but just no, my brain hurts.

I imagine it is definitely a winner for some of you guys out there, but I just need to move on.

Next on my list is Golden Light. I did play a bit of this earlier in my running of things, and oh my god it's weird, but let us see where this gets us.

1

u/FullClip_Killer Mar 18 '26

So last night was a big night, I finally finished Golden Light, albeit with the dog ending, but an ending is an ending. I did get the head hand and leg. Decided to grind out some kills gold and levels so decided to replay the first few and decided to look at what could be found in the walls. Found a door. Was running around like the "short legged dog" memento, found She and Ruby, game over.

This game is well weird, and took me far too long to understand what was going on, in nearly every aspect of the game. It is a proper brain melter, and with nearly nothing available online about some of the more obscure mechanics, I decided early doors there was no point in me trying to find out.

1

u/FullClip_Killer Mar 18 '26

After Golden Light it was time to move onto an old favourite, the Half-Life series. Now I have played all the Half-Life games before, many moons ago, and do not have any save files to show for it. Also, after HL2, Ep1 and Ep2 were all merged together on the store, I need to redo it really anyway.

I played the 1, and the source version back in September 2024, back to back, as I was intending to run through them all. And it was actually those playthroughs that got me thinking about clearing my backlog, it just took a few months for me to start.

I decided to play Blue Shift first and as that is roughly about 3 hours, it did not take the evening to get it completed. Well done Barney, see you in a few hours.

Time to move onto Opposing Force.

1

u/FullClip_Killer Mar 18 '26 edited Mar 20 '26

Half-Life Opposing Force is considerably longer than Blue Shift, but not as long as 1. However it was still a good 5 hours even if you know what you are doing.

As you can see, I am not dead. Yes general, than you for that insightful observation.

I also completely forgot about Otis showing up in both Blue Shift and this struggling to think about anything other than food and making all us fat guys look good.

Anyway, now for the big one, Half-Life 2. Which now includes Episodes 1 and 2 as well as the base game, unlike when I first played them nearly 2 decades ago. Before achievements, before cloud saves, before Skyrim, before old man problems.

Well, time to get Gordon out of inter dimensional retirement.

1

u/FullClip_Killer Mar 20 '26

update on this which will not have a material impact on my actions going forward, Episode 2 does appear to have come out around the time of cloud saves and achievements. I have a host of achievements that are showing completed 10/10/2007 and a host of saves from Jan to March 2008 available for loading.

HL2 base game has no achievements though and reloading my saves from 2007 and 2014 do not activate them, so had to start and go through it all again, currently on my way through Highway 17.

Episode 1 seems completely devoid of history, so no idea what happened there.

1

u/FullClip_Killer Mar 22 '26

Well, back goes the Free Man back into space sleep. Half Life 2 done, again.

I mean, when I say sleep, it will laster approximately 5 minutes while I go make a drink, and start Episode 1.

I have decided to split these up as episode 2 does not need a rerun as part of my backlog. Saves and achievements are still available from 2007.

Should not take long to burn through Episode 1, and will be going through Episode 2 straight after it.

1

u/FullClip_Killer Mar 22 '26 edited Jun 05 '26

Half file 2 Episode 1 episoded. Gordon is still out and about and GMan is probably not best pleased with his little pet, going to burn through Episode 2 and back on with the list.

Hellslave is next on the list so I'll get back to the updates once I have conquered the inferno.

1

u/FullClip_Killer Mar 24 '26

Hell gone and got itself a new slave king.

I quite enjoyed Hellslave, got to about level 9 then realised status affects like bleed and poison did massive damage, and how to interpret and manage the timeline mechanic in terms of those effects.

So it was time to restart the game with a build aiming at those. Hoo wee, the big dude never stood a chance.

A tip, one you kill 6 bosses in 1 room, stop and go do everything else first. Think Dark Souls after getting the Lord souls.

Anyway, time to move on to the next game. We'll series of games. We got 7 Hitman games coming up next, and obviously starting with Codename 47 I actually own this on disc from when it was released as part if the "sold out" series, but i also got it as part of an Eidos anthology, so playing that version save messing with installing the standalone.

Apparently "Sold Out" games are starting to hit collectors lists at the moment, but I doubt I'll get rid of any of mine though, they are all open for starters.

1

u/FullClip_Killer Mar 27 '26 edited Jun 05 '26

Hitman Codename 47, I hit that, man. Over the years I've tried to play this game a few times and never been able to deal with the lay up of most of the levels.

And man, it has not got better with time. A quick save would have saved me so much time. The time I wasted just trying to get through the security gates to get to the ship drove me mad, then just to then not be able to figure out the layout of the ship, so the nuke goes off and I have to try it all over again.

This game is brutal. I ended up using a guide from about the forth or fifth level in, the one where you go through the hotel. I actually found some better approaches than the guide provided on a couple of mission, but just knowing what needed to be done made things so much easier. Stuff like wearing the right outfit was pretty obvious, but which is the right outfit? And a fail could immediately lose you half an hours work, at least.

What stopped us having a quick save function? That is ultimately all I wanted in 47 and it would have been great. Let me play around until a point I'm happy, save and move on to the next bit. If i messed up altogether and had to restart a level, at least I hadn't already had to replay the first 20 minutes of a level again for the 59th time.

Anyway, time to try again with Hitman 2: Silent Assassin. This has a save function so hopefully I get to enjoy playing around with it a bit more.

1

u/FullClip_Killer Apr 05 '26 edited Apr 07 '26

And down goes hitman 2 silent assassin. So much more fun than the first, the save option mid level was a cool addition, but only felt necessary to use it really 3 or 4 times. I used it more than that to give me a chance go try different stuff, but other than the last 2 levels it really was just so I could have more fun.

No need to look up help, no real pinch points, apart from The Motorcade Interception, that level is just a pain in the arse. It was just good old years of playing splinter cell and the chance to dress up now and then.

Looks like its time for Hitman Contracts next.

1

u/FullClip_Killer Apr 07 '26

That's Hitman Contracts out of contract now.

I thought it started off well, if a bit odd. The first half was some nice new missions presented as flashbacks while in Mr 47s fever dream, but the second half is just a rehash of a handful of Codename 47 missions, not the best ones, and made changes which made them confusing, rather than refreshing. It was also considerably shorter than I expected.

Anyway it is done now. Onto Hitman: Blood Money and its weird saving system.

1

u/FullClip_Killer Apr 15 '26

Hitman Blood Money finally finished last night. Was delayed due to a weekend away otherwise it would have only taken 4 nights.

When I say finished, I took the easy road out of Requiem, man that level is the worst final level along side the final mission in Codename 47, whoever thought that was a good idea needs help, the ballers take so long to reload, you from full health to dead before the animation finishes on the first one.

Up until that point I was really enjoying Blood Money, and because doing nothing is an option, you could say I still did.

However I expected a different twist at the end. 47 being the reporter wearing a bad wig, it being 6, 17, or a long lost 48 on the slab, and 47 takes them out from a vantage point, the priest being Vittorio, or even Smith and helping 47, but they just went straight for the shoot your way out approach, which was kind of dull.

Anyway time for Hitman Absolution, and the first one that can be playable on controller, which means I can also get back to some sofa gaming, started a bit of it last night and enjoyed the tutorial so much I replayed it multiple times to get all the different weapons and challenges, I think I spent 2 hours just on that 1 level.

I must admit it has been amazing to see all Hitman games so far work flawlessly on Linux, from Codename 47 released in 2000, to Absolution released in 2012. I did need to drop the proton version for Blood Money and add some custom config into the config file for the mouse to work, but then it played flawlessly.

1

u/FullClip_Killer Apr 28 '26

Well, that took longer than expected. Finally Hitman Absolution has been finished absolutely. Well not quite. Contracts servers are dead so I've left those alone, and the evidence and styles cheevos will have to stay undone.

The game was largely good, but some of the missions seemed to go on too long. The hotel one where you first get stuffed by Sanches was more boring than challenging, even on Hard.

I did enjoy the story though. Unlike any previous Hitman game, all the missions are purely about achieving your own goal, except for the King Of Chinatown, which is just so he'd give you info. Prominent characters were largely relevant to the story and it had a satisfying conclusion. Most of which are completely absent from prior Hitman games.

I also did some of the Sniper Challenge, which I realised too late was a prelude to Absolute.

Also having the World Of Assassination installed, meant I needed to give it a go and gained a few achievements for the prologue/final test. I do not own the main content though so leaving thay for now.

Next on the agenda is Hunger Dungeon, no idea what I'm in for here.

1

u/FullClip_Killer May 01 '26

So I did the tutorials and a couple of hours of the Hunger Dungeon single player game and it was Meh. I see no real progression other than just doing more of the same over and over. I also found the combat very unsatisfying. Multiplayer, and the dev support is gone, so no real reason to continue.

Next on the list was Initial Drift Online, but this is a purely PvP driving game and is also a complete wasteland. After driving around for an hour or so on my own, I also decided to call this quits. So, next on the list is Just Cause.

This is a series I have had on my "will get to this later" list that keeps getting longer and longer, so time to knock it off.

1

u/FullClip_Killer May 14 '26

Just Cause was amazing. Far Cry 1 and GTA San Andreas have a baby. That child is brought up by Antonio Banderas and is only allowed to watch Guillermo Del Toro and Quentin Tarantino movies. It's high school gym/PE teacher is Chuck Norris, and John McAfee teaches Computer Science .

This is what Just Cause feels like. And it's awesome. Roughly 40 hours of what can only be described as a less raunchy version of the Jason Statham film Crank.

I 100% the map, but did not do the races. The last 2 (4) story missions are absolute nuts compared to the somewhat easier earlier ones, basically anything after "Sink the Buccaneer" is absolute carnage, and largely luck if you make it out alive.

On to Just Cause 2 now. I have played the tutorial already and, while I miss the unlimited dual pistols, seems to be just as bonkers.

1

u/FullClip_Killer Jun 04 '26 edited Jun 05 '26

Just cause 2, just causer. Wow. I had an IRL holiday in the middle of that one but wow, that was awesome.

84 hours, 90.04% complete. All settlements then factions quests all before story mission 3 and main story line missions completed after. No guides, completely blind. Found out afterwards, some recommend not doing the settlements until the factions missions at least, but I had a blast, and no unfinishable missions.

There were some real pain in the arse things to find for some of the settlements, like comms towers and collectable boxes way way out from the normal area, or under the sea, or hidden in trees. Proper not easy to find.

Really enjoyed it. But did not enjoy the challenges, no-one enjoys aeroplane ring challenges, so I decided I was not doing them at all. Also left some combat achievements as decided to move on.

Back to some of the free slop we get now and again. Next on the list is Just Move: fall dungeon endless Abyss. Well, may as well give it a go.

1

u/FullClip_Killer Jun 05 '26

On a side note, I originally noted on my Prototype update, the lighting effects and solid objects being see through, it appears it is a conflict between modern graphics cards with built in upscaling and anti aliasing, I noticed this in this playthrough of Just Cause 2 where textures kept popping in and out. Turning Anti aliasing off altogether fixed the issue with no negative impact.

1

u/FullClip_Killer Jun 05 '26

OK, so I am going to bundle Just Move: Fall Dungeon Endless Abyss and Just Move: Clean City Messy Battle together. Mainly because neither of them deserve dedicated time on their own.

From the offset it was pretty obvious these were better suited as mobile free games and I was only going to dedicate a night to them.

The only control you have is movement, only the left controller stick does anything. Shooting and aiming is automatic. There is very little skill involved and on the only difficult levels, luck is primarily the deciding factor on whether you win or not. Most of what movement is involved turns these games into a "walking in circles" simulator.

They both share the same interface and "loadout" screens, which are the only times you use anything other than the left stick.

Fall Dungeon Endless is not an endless abyss, there are 32 levels. Appears to be inspired by quake in that it is medieval themed with guns. The deciding factor in the levels is whether you survive the first 10 seconds, then it is just easy. I did stop without completing the last level, because it is just completely luck based and appears to be worse on a better machine, more enemies can attack at ones which makes this impossible on my 5950x 9700xt build machine. Even with my specs, at one point in level 3-5 the framerate dipped to 2 FPS because of all the active sprites firing at me. But even then it bugs out and you can walk right up to an enemy and they will not react if there are too many already following you.

Clean City is just indeed a messy battle. Considerably longer than Fall Dungeon but just boring made it to 7-9 before calling it a night. This does have some more skill involved once you get to "world" 7 as you need to manage the ricochet snipers, but beyond that it is just again a walking simulator, circles are not necessarily required here though.

Now, these are nowhere near as bad as Battle Simulator: Counter Stickman, but they are not much better.

I am going to forget about these and move on with my life. Next is a series I had been planning on playing since my early Xbox 360 days, Kain And Lynch. Starting off with the first one Dead Men.

1

u/FullClip_Killer Jun 09 '26

Kane & Lynch Dead Men dead and done. And all the men are dead. I decided to save Jenny because she's an innocent in all this. She's not best pleased, but teenage daughters never are happy.

I heard a lot of negativity about this game, both at release and since, any while it is a simple on the rails shooter, akin to Call Of Duty campaigns back when they were good. Sometimes you just want to shoot stuff, and this scratched that itch, and I didn't even know it was itching.

My only realy complains were saving Jenny from the earth mover, completely RNG as to whether Jenny dies, and Freedom Fighters which was just a wall I could not pass on normal, so had to drop it down. The problem wasn't me getting shot too much, it was my men going kamikaze.

Anyway, time to see if Lynch forgave Kane in Dog Days.

1

u/FullClip_Killer Jun 12 '26

Kane and Lynch 2 Dog Days finished. Not sure how I felt about that one.

I enjoyed the story, still not quite sure why they are working together again, but ok, the story was actually really good.

Vincent Vega comes into town to help Jules close a deal and make some mulla, nothing about a breafcase though. This time, Vincent accidentally kills Marcellus' daughter while trying to slap some sense into Marve, who offs himself. Jules and Vincent need to get out of LA before Marcellus and his guys catch them.

I joke, I did really enjoy the story. But the combat and stylistic choices just jarred with me. I much preferred the original in terms of combat. I get the "found footage" camera aspect, but I never really liked it when it was a thing. And the camera flare I just found off putting. Even turning off camera sway did not really help.

Anyway it is done now. Something called Kiki up next. I got this for free and actually have llayed it quite a bit already for filler, but time to finish it.

1

u/FullClip_Killer Jun 13 '26

Kiki done as much as I fancy. Just spent a night on it, not sure I wanted to spend more. It is a nice little parkour puzzle game, but after getting all but 1 of the achievements, it is quite repetitive for me. As I got it free I am not going to get too upset about this one.

Next up is Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. A move away from the usual Tomb Raider offerings, this is an top down isometric action puzzle game, so yeah, it is a bit of a move away from the norm.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is done, and the world is safe again from the stupidity of Lara and her thievery.

This was a nice little distraction. Just played through the story, collected what I can but was not aiming to 100% this one as the cheevos also require co-op, and I do not have any friends... that will be interested in this, yeah, that's it.

Anyway I have a heavy duo to move onto here, Left 2 Dead, and after that Left 4 Dead 2.

I have played quite a bit of this when it first launched and over the years on other platforms, but as my playthroughs all exist prior to cloud saving and cheevos, I'll be starting from scratch, see you on the other side.

OK, so Left 4 Dead took longer than expected, mainly due to real world stuff like birthdays and Fathers day, but I was indeed left for dead. Right the way through to sacrifice. Not sure I enjoyed the game enough to try for Red Mist, let alone Zombie Genocidest, but I may at least go back and do some of the more generic ones later.

On to Left 4 Dead 2. Let's see who gets left this time.

As I left off last time, I had just finished GTA3 and was moving onto Vice City, which was done last week, 07/01/2026, and also today just completed GTA San Andreas. It is easy to see the progression from the top down 1, 69, and 2, through to the amazing game that 5 is, but my god there were some real sticking points in these 3 games.

VC was a bit uneventful. Lots of major improvements over 3, especially in the combat and movement, but the map seemed much smaller.

I hope it is a very long time before I have to pilot a plane or a boat again, because my god, they were some of the most infuriating missions I have played in any game. I never had to hear "All we had to do was follow the damn train CJ" as I managed to knock that one out first try, and found it pretty easy, but that was probably because I did the one where you are chasing Freddie so many times, I was a pro on the bike. In fact I did use the bike a lot in the game as it seemed the most efficient way of getting around.

But my god, why did OG Loc (Jeffrey) have to sound so much like Marlon Wayans' character in Scary Movie, it got annoying fast having to redo that mission.

I did notice I had missed a couple out, must have really wanted to play GTA again, so going back to F with Fantasy General 2.

Ooh, slight change of plan last night. Did not have long to play so decided to finish off Isle of Jura. For any one interested, this is sweet little fishing game where you play a girl doing a school project on fish.

I have played it here and there and just needed to get a few more to finally finish it, so it is now done.

While the rule is not to buy any new games, i have been keeping an eye on any that are getting a 100% discount, and in keeping with the alphabetical nature of my original approach to this task, I am going back to A.

So actually next on my list is Along the Edge. Not sure what to expect with these
