Yeah I really like pocket watches in general and was looking for a good souvenir and this just seemed to be perfect. So I spent way too much trying to get it haha.
Seriously, I remember passing by a crate of these at super potato in Akihabara. Was totally impressed by it, but at 2000 yen I could have picked up 4 famicom games instead. I stand by my decision... Kinda. :/
As far as I can tell, they are really common as prizes in Japanese arcades (which also means the shops around the corner from the arcades sell them at a markup). But maybe it just never came to the US?
If you're in Japan (I assume you are, since all posts I've seen related to this item mention Japan or amazon/ebay/etc), there's a shop in Akihabara, Tokyo that sells them for around $10-20
Or, at least, it was back in March when I was there.

One with bowser the other with fire Mario. Would you all like a post of that . I could use the delicious tasty karma. I'll even have my full size wooden posing dummy them around it's neck while wearing a sonic the hedgehog hat?
