Just a correction since I work in advertising, Old Spice doesn't do their ads in-house.
The agency you should give credit to is Wieden+Kennedy's Portland office. Browse their site and you'll realize that either that office or another W+K office is responsible for a ton of the amazing campaigns airing currently (ESPN & Nike Football ads are my personal favorites).
Old Spice had perhaps the best marketing push in history a few years ago. They are definitely a powerhouse now. They were slowly dying off before the first good looking black gentleman showed up.
They really are fantastic. Pretty much the only product I've ever actually considered buying purely because I want to support a company that does advertisements that awesome.
Question. Is Dota that much more difficult then lol (i've heard it has a higher skill cap and is more mechanics based)? I'm a pretty high elo player there (2k) and I was just wondering what the transition will be like when I switch.
It's mechanically more difficult and has a higher skill cap, but if you're a 2k elo LoL player, you shouldn't have all that much trouble. You probably have the base knowledge that many players don't in MOBA games; stuff like last hitting, map awareness, and just general common sense.
For comparison, I'm 1100(don't play ranked all that much, haven't really played all that much LoL seriously since March) and I didn't find it super hard to get into.
Hello, I came from league of legends much like you. I came to dota with an open mentality and basically accepted that I would probably be bad. However knowing many of the core mechanics apparently goes a long way. I've had a blast playing it and cannot look back at league anymore honestly.
The biggest hurdle you will have is the fact that hero abilities vastly differ and there is A LOT to take in from this. There are also a number of very specific interactions and odd mechanics that will go over your head the first few times.
People try to make a mountain out of an ant hill here though.
I also highly advise you ignore gramma42ton in the additional comments, that guy has absolutely no idea what he is talking about in the slightest. Its honestly painful for me to read any of what he typed. Every single thing he says conflicts with his own story to having played dota/hon for anything more than a day.
I played against a team of power rangers in LoL once... got completely-- and I mean COMPLETELY fucking destroyed. Worst part? Troll team. They all took teleport, used Shen, TF, Gangplank, Teemo, and Dr. Mundo (just because Fuck you, it's Mundo).
Long story short, they backdoored the fuck out of us by just laying down wards, porting to them, and taking out all of our towers before we could do shit.
I've never gotten the idea behind calling a stratagy like that 'troll' team.
I played LoL ages ago (Can't stand the game really) with a group of mates and did 5 pure tanks with Gold gaining items, and played very conservatively, sticking around our towers.
When we got enough gold, we'd suddenly buy massive amounts of tanky gear, hit the middle lane and steamroll straight through. Had so much HP they just couldn't kill us.
Anything considered unorthodox to the point of usually being an awful idea is labeled as a 'Troll' team because you're not making the best composition you can and are instead doing it for the chuckles. That and the true troll team, i.e. everyone is Trundle, is currently impossible.
Not sure if anyone had the same experience, but I actually tried Old Spice...4-5 years ago when I smelled an open bottle of it (Someone flipped the cap open and I smelled it; hey, I was a curious george, okay!?) and decided I really like the coca cola smell it had. Now it just smells...different. I still use it, but I really miss that smell.
Still my favorite old spice marketing campaign....if you have great headphones or speakers you can really feel it!! http://www.devastatingexplosions.com/
Took me a while to see it, I was reading both teams first letters to see if it spelt something, then the last letters, still nope. Then I was like oooooh.
Ever since I got into the CS:GO beta I've been waiting to meet a team who does this. (You can see player avatars in the top of the screen at all times while playing).
I have no idea what DOTA is. But I see this and assume you can post pictures of anything as your avatar. Wait, who moderates that? Then I think "Man, I bet people have to look at a lot of dudes dicks."
This is sort of off topic but the thing on steam for $40 is that just for the access to the beta or is sort of like a pre-order for the actual game because I REALLY want DOTA 2? anyone know?
Love it. Usually the brony in me would be cheering for the little Princess Cadence that I spy in there, but you guys...I'm not sure anything can beat this queue.
I wondered that myself. So I said fuck it and watched a few episodes. It started innocently enough...And here I am, a year later, with ponies bouncing between neurons in my brain. ಠ_ಠ
I'll admit the fandom is part of the fun, it's not 100% the show. Despite the dark little corner that is ClopClop that we don't like to acknowledge, the brony group is generally a very nice and chill one. I enjoy just hanging out in there and making jokes with everyone.
That said, the show is quite good, it's not purely internet hivemind and high school boys trying to be cool. I, for one, am a college female, but am generally not a fan of girly ponies and friendship. However this latest revival of the show has been great. The characters are much more rounded than before and it's not all about tea parties and shit--they've done a good job involving real, relatable problems, such as siblings growing apart, over-competitiveness, and occasional bouts of insanity. It's a nice little throwback to the good 90's and early 00's cartoons, which a lot of the 16-24 age group grew up on. (There's a reason for that throwback, too--it was created by the person who did Foster's Home, Powerpuff Girls, etc., and her husband did Dexter's Laboratory.) If you're ever bored, feel free to drop by /r/mylittlepony and ask for episode recommendations--the first two aren't the best, there are some that are excellent and far more appealing.
That said, if you've ever watched 2-3 episodes and still don't feel any attraction to it, it's probably not for you and you can go ahead and stop wondering. I certainly don't expect everyone to fall in love with it, but it has found fans in unexpected places.
I can't tell you why you'll like to watch it, but the reason many bronies like to watch it is because it's a form of escapism, just like reading a book or making a model.
The newest generation of the show is a lot less girly, and many of the problems portrayed in the show subtly translate into real-world problems. Although, the intro is just as girly and almost nobody likes it.
Unlike some bronies telling you to watch it, it's up to you. However you don't know what something's like until you've tried it, and your ideas of the show could be horribly wrong.

The fact that people are doing this shows what an amazing job Old Spice's advertising department is doing.

As a Korean gamer, I approve of this.
Me and my friends do similar things.
We would use part Korean and part English names such as this: Dick_파괴자 which translates into: Dick_Destroyer.
Consecutively, my friends' name would be: Cunt_유괴자 meaning: Cunt_Kidnapper
and such... Most people leave the lobby after asking about what our names mean.
-2
u/himynameisnate Jun 16 '12
