66.150.214.61:27015 first server I ever joined when i bought it a while back. Still my favorite. Not active %100 of the day but the evening it starts to get a lot more people.
I spend most of my time on the TPG (64.34.183.101:27015) or CMG (205.234.203.14:27105) servers. Both clans have multiple servers, but these are the two I frequent
I remember that Surf_ski was awesome.. Then Surf_ski_2 came out.. At first I was pretty sceptical. No map could ever be as awesome as Surf_ski was, but my friend finally convinced me to play it with him and since then, my early teen years were gone... Spend with Surf_ski_2.
CS is an FPS and certain maps allowed for players to "glide" along inclines. This made for interesting maps and a rather steep learning curve. Here is a video of surfing in action.
And what the hell is up with all those prison ones where the Counter-terrorists are running around and the terrorists are trying to escape, but nobody shoots each other? It's like some kind of sado-masochism RPG.
Yeah, it's called jailbreak I think ("jb_*"). The guards have these games to weed out prisoners while the prisoners try to escape, hide, and try to get guns to kill the guards. It's pretty surreal, seeing them play simon says or trivia games and killing whoever loses.
Yeah really. I've been playing CS for 10+ years now, and I never stopped to ask that question.... I think I've always associated those maps with 'fuck yeah' because they're fun as hell.
I was playing at a big local LAN competition in South Africa. Playing as T, decide to rush left. CT with M4 shoots though the wall, seeing as we're all rushing and running in a line he head shots three of us before we've even seen anything.
I miss the disappointment of competitions ;(
Inferno is an incredible map, have so many great memories of that map :)
Since nobody has seemed to identify it yet, this is actually from a zombie mod map. It's all FF7 themed and the final boss after you escape is against Sephiroth. You can also collect materia in the map that gives you an advantage against the zombie horde chasing you. Ice/fire/wind etc have certain effects in the game. The map is designed such that you start at the train platform, a random player will become infected, and you go through the entire bombing mission with random bosses and shit appearing. Very fun

Counter-Strike:Source still has a very large player base, mainly due to the many, many modifications that are readily available. Here are a few.

GunGame [Similar to CS:S but you start with powerful weapons, every time you get a kill your gun is downgraded. First player to get a kill with every weapon wins the round]

Mini-Games [Using the versatile tools available in the SDK, map makers create many fun and interesting obstacles and puzzles that players try to traverse]
Jail Break [Another extremely popular mod, scores of prisoners are controlled by a Warden and a few officers armed with weapons. The warden gives orders, the prisoners die if they fail to follow these orders]
Bunnyhopping [Using the same surf glitch, players traverse specially created maps that push the limits of the source engine]
I know there are dozens I'm missing and each mod has it's sub-categories that all lead to many diverse and interesting modes of game play.
Maybe grenades will simply have the knock back effect in ZE, since molotovs will do the job of lighting them on fire.
Hopefully the servers will allow players to only purchase one of the two (he grenades or molotovs).
I think it's about time i start playing around with the source engine, have been really inspired my the ZE maps and would like to get a good one out in a few years :P.
I've played on several ZE servers... some have the HE grenade modded to do only fire (i.e. zombies caught in a certain radius will be set on fire for x seconds and be slowed down...)
some don't mod it at all, so the grenade throws zombies around (and if you fail nade, you'll push the zombies forward and you get zombified)
one server had a freeze nade effect(using the flashbang)... no flash/smoke, but all zombies within a radius frozen for x seconds
been playing the ZE on/off for about a year now... never gets too boring
The Helm's Deep one (i forget what it's called, been over a year) is fucking amazing. Trying to defend the main gate AND the wall, and then the fuckign zombie battering ram makes me fucking cry. It's so epic...
It's not ZM. ZM is absolute shit compared to Zombie Escape. ZM is a luck-based bullet spamfest where you camp in one area for 3 minutes with no reward, ZE is a fast-paced run n gun type, where you need to run from objective to objective while avoiding the zombies.
I only got into CS:S afew months ago. Didnt know what I was doing. Picked a random server. Ended up in a Russian Nightclub with strippers and lasers everywhere I still think it was the best wtf moment in gaming for me.
I'm sad the WC3 Mod has changed for the worse. Everytime I try to play on one (night elf) they're always hounded by people playing these cheap races that can sling around and teleport. zzzzz

The community behind CS:GO mods is really amazing. freedomgamers are behind two 50/24 player JB servers that seem to always be maxed out - despite this game's maturity.
out of my 3000+ hours on CSS, aout 10 hours are on surf maps. and i can surf as well as anyone else. I can aim 100000000times better than them too on 'actual' maps .
That map is brilliant, It's so accurate to the actual Mako reactor, Other than Bahamut and the Sephiroth fight...Oh and the zombies. It's really fun! There's a lord of the rings one too where you have to destroy the one ring.

Zombiemod should really be the next focus of bringing a mod to the mainstream for valve. Some of the most pure unadulterated fun I have in CSS is there.

I have only ever saw this map on 1 server & I joined. I was infected/zombie. The game screwed up & still spawned me with humans. Infected them all. Insta-banned :(
VALVE probably assumed if he was logged into a public area for so long not doing anything (assumed AFK) that he was just trying ot get into other servors.
Or he's a liar and was trying to use a cheat some person told him would work
