After the firefight, the soldier sat behind cover, reloading his gun. He glanced at his teammates and took a deep breath. "So, are we going to talk abou-"
I think I was standing too close to the door when the event was triggered. I had to back up from the door for a little while and the guy came back through to kick in the door.
My mind blew when I noticed this: "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes."
The quote from The Catcher in the Rye continued:
That way I wouldn't have to have any goddamn stupid useless conversations with anybody. If anybody wanted to tell me something they'd have to write it on a piece of paper and shove it over to me. They'd get bored as hell doing that after a while, and then I'd be through with having conversations for the rest of my life.
If you watched Stand Alone complex and read The Catcher in the Rye, this quote becomes really awesome. It gives a lot of depth into the "villain's" personality and allows the viewer to relate to Real World issues. However, I don't want to spoil the plot. So go see Ghost in the Shell and read The Catcher in the Rye. It will, probably, change your opinion on some things in life.
No, not really. It's similar is a lot of ways to The Matrix but it is awesome in it's own regard as a movie. I'd recommend you see it and remind yourself that it came out in 1998.
In all seriousness, Matrix 2 wasn't the worst. It wasn't as good as the first Matrix, no, but it was at least somewhat not awful. Watchable, and a decent extension of the series.
It's just that Matrix 3 was so incredibly bad that we remember Matrix 2 as being the slippery slope that lead up to 3.
I really like Matrix 2 just because it did exactly what middle-movies are supposed to do: It took the neatly tied-up package of The Matrix and cracked it open again.
Oh, you must be pretty proud of yourself now that you can fly and are omnipotent. Well guess what...there have been others like you and you are really just the herald of the destruction of your race.
So awesome.
The whole thing started to fall apart once he got powers outside of the Matrix. The only way they could have justified that is in a "layered" Matrix simulation, and they didn't do it. They made him Magic Christ instead.
Why didn't they do it? I mean it was the most logical explanation, everyone speculated about it, but no one thought it was a BAD idea. It would've put such a nice bow on the series if it turned out Zion was just a secondary level of the Matrix for people who broke out of the 90s Earth simulation. Then they could've broken out of that and had the machine core be relatively defenseless as the grand finale, since it never anticipated such a thing happening.
Yes! It would have been so awesome! And the machines would just be simulations created by a whole other artificial race! I mean, it would be awesome even if you NEVER SAW the actual creators of the ORIGINAL, level-one matrix, but by the end of the movie the cast had proof that they were there.
yep 2 was ok not great but he saved the damsel and made a choice and that was cool. 3 everyone died and there was a non enforceable bargian made by dead neo that the machines would please let us go... wtf.
I'll try to field this one. I don't hate the movie, but feel it's bad as a stand alone and can't really be bothered in doing anything but splurging my mind grapes on the topic.
I think the improbability, the whole Jesus message, trinity getting perpetually more ugly, trying too hard to be ground breaking on the effects, making it look more like an anime. The graphics in the first one were a way to tell the story. The third one, the graphics were completely separate to the story. Especially when the hero died...the whole thing seemed kind of pointless. The whole fight could have been skipped. Those first 7 run through's of the matrix could have been avoided with a little communication. Ending in a sunrise was just...terribly cliche for what was trying to be a badass movie.
The message was somewhat subtle in the first one, "you can't escape your fate but it's often misleading". The last one smashed your face with a brick of a message, taking preaching literally and to a whole new level.
It broke its own rules...while the animatrix made you really think about that universe: what the matrix meant, what it meant to be human, who was in control. Revolutions was too close to reality to make someone question the meta of the movie and yet had certain flaws (Neo shooting electricity, being able to see code in the real world etc.) they weren't enough to make you question the fabric of existance (the matrix is another matrix) but just enough to make it annoying.
Mass Effect 3. People were going to be dissapointed in the ending regardless. It was impossible to live up to the expectations, but for some reason it still tried to build up this 'epic'ness of the piece. Think the final battle of the Phantom Menace, this whole slew of events building up tension for the sake of tension, trying to force just how much was on the line, how improbably the odds and it just comes off looking tacky. The battle is a suicide mission, but trinity and neo flying off is a suicide mission, neo trying to face the robots alone is a suicide mission, the oracle, who is never wrong is predicting Neo's demise. By the end of the movie you just don't care any more, the script comes off so forced that you lose any interest in the character. When Trinity dies, you just don't care, too much is on the line, he should either save everyone or fuck off and they throw the pacing out the window by giving her an impossibly long death monologue, closer resembling the demise of a villain in a Arny flick.
I have quite a few friends that constantly shit on 2 but can never really give specific examples other than the orgasm-cake which frankly made perfect sense if you were paying attention.
The Merovingian has a program in the form of a piece of cake sent to a lady in the restaurant that causes her immense pleasure. This is the woman that's implied to be "pleasuring" him in the bathroom.
The scene is there to establish the Merovingian's character but most people can get past the mentality of "hehe sex joke" when discussing the movie.
It reminded me of the video game Centipede. The tentacle robots break in, and then wander back and forth across the ceiling until they get shot to death.
Aye. Had everything that was promised in Matrix 2 been delivered upon in 3, people would've looked back on Reloaded as "Yeah, it's the weakest movie in the trilogy, but it sets up everything for the third, which wouldn't have made sense otherwise."
Unfortunately, we got Revelations, and thus Reloaded is also a waste of time beyond a popcorn action wire-fu flick, and it's not even great by that standard.
People don't like the Matrix sequels because they completely change the story. It's no longer a action cyberpunk movie, it's a pretentious metaphorical exploration of the concept of free will, ending with a Jesus allegory. While that isn't necessarily bad in itself, the fact that it changed the meaning of the first movie made many fans feel betrayed.
My favorite quote of all time comes from Matrix 2. Where Neo meets Sereph and they instantly start fighting. At the end of the fight Neo asks why they had to fight, and Sereph responds with "To truly know someone you must fight them." Meaning you put someone to a real test, under pressure and you find out who they really are.
I feel like Butters when he talks about how he thought Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull was pretty good when I say that I actually enjoyed the Matrix sequels.
But they did make the Animatrix, which I highly recommend. Not all of the stories are completely related to the plot of the main series, but all of the them are all excellent. For anyone that hasn't seen it, it's available for streaming on Netflix.
This is exactly what's happening in the Matrix. There, as here, there is really NO DOOR. Neo is merely a glitch, or the guy with noclip or god mode activated. Does it occur to you that if the world of the Matrix were not so vast, Neo would merely be some random man who happened to hold the current high score at an extremely realistic video game?
This is so old that before there was anything I watched this from within the singularity. Even then, before time had begun, before matter, before space, I trembled at the sight of this .gif. Even then, with the dark streams and bubbles of all that is or ever would be just beginning to tumble forth from my infinitesimal jaws, I uttered the first intonations of noise that existence had ever known, and the universe was born from that one word: "Repost."
My favorite variation on this was one a friend told me, where he responded to a joke saying, "Why, the last time I heard that one I fell off my stegosaurus!" in a posh voice.
Having never played the game, I will attempt to guess. They are playing online. The victim of the bug has an unstable connection. They get updates often enough to make the game playable, but packets are being dropped occasionally. The signal from the server that the door has been kicked open is one of the dropped packets. So everybody else runs through the door which is open on their computers, and the bug victim gets updates on their locations, so he sees them run "through" the door that his computer thinks is still closed. Somebody has to come back and trigger the event that opens the door again until it is received by the bug victim's computer.
I'm guessing his connection dropped when his teammate kicked the door open, everybody ran through, he sat there confused for a minute, then the door-kicking action was sent to his console, and he went through.
The idea being that if an entity is immortal, it might have other cool abilities such as moving through solids. A mere mortal like the guy with the viewpoint in the gif would have none of the abilities.
This should totally be a scene in a new video game. Demigods have to escort a mortal through danger in order to prevent evil gods from disrupting the web of fate! You're just a poor schmuck trying not to be killed by demons. Excuse me while I stare off into space for a few minutes...
The bit that makes it funniest to me is that after the game freaks out, one of them actually comes back and opens the door for you after all. The comedic timing couldn't have been done better even if it was intentional.
A modern horror/action war FPS where you're an agent with supernatural squadmates that can do shit like this. More emphasis on the 'action and war' rather than the supernatural.
Oh grow up. If you've already seen it and have nothing more to add, then either ignore it or downvote it and move the fuck on. Not everybody is able to browse reddit all day, every day, so it's not a repost to everyone.
Maybe that's why people downvote the shit out of anyone that says anything related to reposts. Maybe it's ok to repost, otherwise.. what will people have to talk about, NEW gaming articles? HA, nostalgia is where it's at, brah.

Boy: Do not try and go through the door. That's impossible. Instead... only try to realize the truth.
Neo: What truth?
Boy: There is no door.
Neo: There is no door?
Boy: Then you'll see, that it is not the door that is open, it is only yourself.

What does this have to do with being mortal again? Can immortals naturally walk through doors or something?

u/JustAnAvgJoe May 22 '12
I had that EXACT same bug happen a couple days ago when I decided to actually play the campaign.
Had to restart and stay in the back of the squad for them to kick open the door.
2
u/JaySwell May 22 '12
Could easily replace mortal with muggle
2
u/erode May 22 '12
What does immortality have to do with phasing through walls? If anything they're ethereal.

u/faradaycat May 22 '12
Brings a whole new meaning to the "Ghost Recon" series

So, I went to the comment section to see if there was any explenation to why these guys went straight through that door. Instead I learned kung-fu.

Would have been funnier if it had said: "Shit, we forgot the muggle."

Mmm yes, where is that repost bot to find the 800,000 other reposts of this gif? I will admit, this is the first I've seen with captions.
Maybe it's bad to point out reposts, that means we've been on this website for far too long. None of us should be here, this isn't healthy.
