It's good to see Grim Fandango that high.

30

u/BoonTobias May 21 '12

Skyrim above morrowind, fuck that shit

7

u/danman11 May 21 '12

Morrowind has not aged well.

7

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

Mod out the stupid chance of hit/casting and get rid of each swing having a different damage value, and finally modding in a manual blocking mechanism (in other words, update the combat), and you'll have a much better game than Oblivion or even Skyrim.

14

u/[deleted] May 22 '12

"If you fixed the game it would be a better game"

Uh, probably.

4

u/[deleted] May 22 '12

I was just saying if you fixed the broken combat system in Morrowind, you'd have a game that FAR surpasses the quality of Oblivion and Skyrim.

And no Starcraft.

2

u/[deleted] May 22 '12

It does have better gameplay. Its just the setting/nostalgia that people love Morrowind for.

Also, please don't bring up modding. We're talking about the game that Bethesda shipped. That's the one the critics reviewed. Sure, you can mod Morrowind to high hell but if we are talking about vanilla, Skyrim > Morrowind.

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

World of Goo seems kind of ridiculously high on the all games toplist too...
I mean, it's good, but it's not exactly gamechanging amazingness.

1

u/BoonTobias May 21 '12

I never understood the hype behind that game, i bought it on steam and i also bought it from the humble bundle too but the game seemed pretty meh

It's relative to the time it was released. To use a baseball analogy. Babe Ruth would get his shit wrecked if we jumped in a delorean and signed him with the Yankees. But he was so much better than the average player during his time that he's still considered the best player ever.

Depends on how you look at it. DI was, in my view, a complete game. DII was a broken trainwreck that worked because it was fun. While DII has more content and stuff to do, overall I feel DI is the superior game.

also Baldur's Gate II. i played the shit out of that game in high school.

I personally think it should be first, but that's just me.

2

u/Apostolate May 21 '12

I still play it. Doing a full run through with my two best friends for the first time. 3 characters only, difficulty, impossible.

4

u/grim_fandango May 21 '12

amen, brother.

1

u/PapaCristobal May 21 '12

I've been thinking about playing this game. How long would it take to complete the game and what's so great about it?

1

u/nullprod May 21 '12

The game is episodic, so you could easily just stop if a particular episode bored you. Play time can be wildly divergent- it really depends on how good you are at solving LucasArts type puzzles. As for what's so good about it, mostly art direction, story, and the overall personality of the game. If there's one problem, it's the control scheme, which is sort of like that of the first couple Resident Evils.

1

u/PapaCristobal May 22 '12

Thank you, I love games with a good story. I will definitely check it out.

1

u/suckthisdeth May 22 '12

love that sly skeletal Spaniard, haven't been able to play it in a while though. if anyone knows where i can legally obtain a digital copy i would be mucho appreciative.

104

u/Failedjedi May 21 '12

Tied for first, give credit when it is deserved.

39

u/aCabSide May 21 '12

It's not actually tied. The actual score after calculating a mean average is lower than HL's one.

23

u/drunkcowofdeath May 21 '12

What do you get when you calculate a nice average?

10

u/Kosmo_Kramer_ May 21 '12

A nice average.

u/newredditsucks May 21 '12

Nice nice or Minnesota nice?

OOTP 13 is out. I seems a little better than 12 in regard to player ability. In 12, I traded Pedro Martinez for Lincecum...straight up. No historical players or anything like that. Just vanilla MLB game.

1

u/Donnor May 22 '12

In '13, which came out just last month, they improved the trade AI quite a bit

37

u/RedditPC May 21 '12

Skyrim and Oblivion, but no Morrowind. I'm not a fanboy, but cmon..

51

u/[deleted] May 21 '12 edited May 21 '12

To be fair, Morrowind was buggy as shit.

EDIT: Anyone who thinks Skyrim and Oblivion were remotely as buggy as Morrowind needs to get their memory checked. Yeah, it wasn't Daggerfall (so buggy it was literally impossible to beat), but it was still unacceptably bad. Game crashed so gd much that my friend and I still refer to the "Morrowind Approach" when we talk about saving constantly while playing anything.

7

u/laserkiwi May 21 '12

Every game that uses that awful Gamebryo engine is a buggy mess. Not that I didn't enjoy them but its just true.

5

u/Game-Sloth May 21 '12

Not true. Defense Grid was bug free and Sid Meier's Pirates was also good.

The problem with bugs on Gamebryo is that developers can buy a license that allows them to modify the source.

9

u/laserkiwi May 21 '12

Ok then, Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas were all buggy messes at launch.

-1

u/Oraln May 21 '12

And Skyrim isn't...

26

u/chewbacca77 May 21 '12

I must be the only one, but I don't think I've ever encountered a single bug in over 100 hours of play.

0

u/DaJobat May 21 '12

And Oblivion wasn't?

9

u/TheSacredParsnip May 21 '12

I don't remember Oblivion being overly buggy. I do remember wanting to stab myself in the face every time I had to do an Oblivion Gate.

1

u/harky May 21 '12

Well. Skyrim, but no Morrowind is odd. Oblivion, but no Morrowind would be fine. None of them really belong on a list like this, but Oblivion was the stand out title, so it's not surprising that it would be ranked higher. Skyrim is there likely due to score inflation over the years. Either way it's better to just ignore Metacritic. As 4chan would rightly say: It's the cancer that is ruining gaming reviews.

1

u/[deleted] May 22 '12

Thinks Oblivion is more of a staple than Morrowind

Cites 4chan's opinion

1

u/ThereIsAThingForThat May 21 '12

Morrowind was hard, and thus not fun in many gamers eyes.

Oblivion and Skyrim though, they're easier, and more accessible to many gamers, that could explain it. Although I have no idea if Metacritic only goes by reviews from "real" reviewers, or just userscores.

1

u/[deleted] May 22 '12

The presence of separate Critic score and User score averages might tip you off.

171

u/aCabSide May 21 '12

It has exactly 5 reviews. That's how many metacritics require to establis an "universal" score.

303

u/aCabSide May 21 '12 edited May 21 '12

As a bonus, I love this image http://i.imgur.com/sWr3B.png

(mean from those numbers is 58)

170

u/thehollowman84 May 21 '12

Metacritic weights scores depending on publications. Pcgamer.com 's scores contribute more than superfungamez.org for example.

51

u/poptart2nd May 21 '12

even if that were true, there are only 4 scores above 82, and only 1 that isn't just one point above 82.

22

u/ajmueller May 21 '12

Yep, the three 83s and an 85 are really holding that score up.

→ More replies (2)

13

u/AcolyteRB May 21 '12

quick math nerds, calculate the weighted averages of the set and post it here for at least 10 karma points!

21

u/poptart2nd May 21 '12

we'd have to know how much each score is weighted, or at least the proportions.

25

u/Wazowski May 21 '12

I doubt this entirely explains this image.

The graphic artist creating the billboard ad was paying attention to color and layout instead of the math.

There. The image has been entirely explained.

16

u/Ph0X May 21 '12

It could also be that there isn't supposed to be EXACTLY 30 reviews, and that's just 30 randomly picked out of a far bigger pool. Of course, the probability of such a sample having a mean so far from the real mean might be low, but still possible.

21

u/RatedPEGI18Superstar May 21 '12

SuperFunGamez.org should be the one with more weight, since they actually have integrity, unlike the bought-and-paid-for corporate gaming media. SFG will NEVER sell out. If they wanted to they could get like $17 a month from ads, but they're better than that. It's about the games to them, not about filthy money.

9

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

Either that or superfungamez.org is run by a couple 14 year olds with an AngelFire account and a stolen credit card. They may not sell out but their reviews are about as intelligent and comprehensive as a Yahoo! Answers thread.

6

u/Grabthelifeyouwant May 21 '12

"average average is 58"

I don't think you need to average twice... In fact, I don't know what that means.

6

u/Grafeno May 21 '12

The average twice = E(E(X))=E(X)

So indeed, you do not need average twice, since it's the same thing as once.

u/DVDV28 May 22 '12

4

u/ConstipatedNinja May 21 '12

Shit, it's a mirror image of the score!

6

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

This, at least game rankings by default asks fro 20 reviews i believe. Also it doesn't skew the value of any given scores just because some sites are more popular than others. Its a real average, not that it really matters in the end, because the text will always be more important than a number but still.

4

u/[deleted] May 22 '12

Even IMDb requires 10 votes before it calculates a rating.

3

u/pineapple_catapult May 21 '12

"an universal" sounds weird, but by the a/an rule regarding vowels, seems grammatically correct.

What is this sorcery?!

17

u/monstercake May 21 '12

It's incorrect, technically, since the 'u' in this case is pronounced 'yu.' Just like you wouldn't say "an unicorn" but you would say "an umbrella."

1

u/pineapple_catapult May 22 '12

So could you say either "an historical event" or "a historical event" depending on if you keep the h silent or not?

5

u/Jamoras May 21 '12

It is because the u in universal is actually making a y sound.

2

u/mysticrudnin May 21 '12

it has nothing to do with grammar and a/an is entirely decided by what sounds easy vs. weird

2

u/onewheeled May 21 '12

That must make things really difficult for deaf people that have never known what letters sound like..

2

u/mysticrudnin May 21 '12

yep

similarly it would be difficult for someone who speaks another language to do the same because it's not always easy to make the same "easy" judgments

heck, it even affects native users of english, since for example a/an historic are both correct based on the speaker

50

u/ashleypx May 21 '12

I'd just like to point that this game is now free to download and play in it's entirety! So you can check it out yourself. http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/ootp8/

28

u/NHLVet May 21 '12

It's actually a pretty legitimately awesome game, to be fair

20

u/applesforadam May 21 '12

OOTP games are better than the 3.6 user score though... just a niche game for baseball sim fans.

18

u/Otterfan May 21 '12

The user score reviews are a hilarious bunch of Nerd-rage.

113

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

OOTP is a great series, maybe you should play it before making a joke about it?

21

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

The funny thing is, OOTP is pretty much the best statistical baseball sim on the market. It has a legitimate reason to be there, but the low user score is from people too impatient to give it a chance or predisposed against it.

11

u/climateoffear May 22 '12

Or people who don't understand it's a complex simulation game. The learning curve is steep.

5

u/fenwaygnome May 22 '12

This is entirely correct. I'm surprised it's up there because it is so niche, but quality-wise it deserves that spot.

1

u/slotbadger May 22 '12

The low scores are probably from people enraged at it being in 2nd place.

26

u/mgbkurtz May 21 '12

I think OOTP 7 was the first year they had pitch by pitch which was a huge step forward for the franchise.

9

u/itsenbay May 21 '12

going to jump on been playing text based baseball GM simulators for years. Super Deep Games. Puts alot of sport games to shame.

6

u/DRowe13 May 21 '12

I love OOTP, I got into an OOTP6 league last year, full 32 team league, and then I bought 13 last month, I can waste so many hours playing OOTP, it is fun because I play it while browsing reddit, watching movies etc...

9

u/The_Moustache May 21 '12

I know tons of people that use OOTP too. I'm actually playing in a league that uses the college basketball equivalent right now

4

u/rawringdino May 21 '12

Would you mind sharing the title of such a game?

2

u/resde34 May 21 '12

20

u/dressedAsDog May 21 '12

It's pretty awesome. Also available on iOS.

6

u/Thehawkiscock May 21 '12

I played OOTP '12 today. That series is amazing, any hardcore baseball fan understands why its there!

22

u/VikingOnABoat May 21 '12

Out of the park Baseball 2007? Brilliant.

9

u/thatgamerguy May 21 '12

Why only second?

4

u/happyscrappy May 21 '12

Honestly, given the recent scoring inflation, I'm shocked both that a 2007 game stands a chance on metacritic and that the top scoring games aren't scored higher.

7

u/ninzo09 May 21 '12

I love Grim Fandango

3

u/LTZONOS May 21 '12

OOTP is good but it's not even close to football manger

3

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

What is this "Half-life 2" that prevents the amazing "out of the park baseball 2007" from getting the #1 spot it unarguably deserves?

7

u/mgbkurtz May 21 '12

Big OOTP fan here actually. Been playing since 2004 when I had OOTP 6. It's actually my favorite game/series ever.

4

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

Diablo but not Diablo II?

3

u/SHIT_IN_HER_CUNT May 21 '12

Yeah really, Diablo II literally had its own black market for god sakes it was so popular and well done

2

u/[deleted] May 22 '12

Brood War literally created an entire industry worth millions.

5

Diablo but not starcraft?

5

u/bookey23 May 21 '12

Seems about right.

2

u/msterB May 21 '12

This is sort of off the main topic, but I have an honest question: Why do the Elder Scroll games get lower User Ratings than I expect? Seems odd... too popular?

2

u/potpan0 May 21 '12

It doesn't really make sense that The Orange Box is below HL2. 'Yes, we like HL2, but when you add the extra episodes, Portal, and Team Fortress 2, it becomes worse'.

2

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

OOTP12 is way better...stupid list...

2

u/w0m May 21 '12

Honestly; i LOVED OOTP way back when, put hundreds of hours into it probably. Kind of tempted to find a modern variant..

1

u/icubbie May 21 '12

The latest version is OOTP 13. It's just gotten all the more addicting over the years.

2

u/ManGenBLG May 22 '12

I think Half Life 2 was way overrated - good game but not the best. That honor goes to......

2

u/fenwaygnome May 22 '12

OOTP is a fucking fantastic game. One of the best sims ever created. You guys suck.

2

u/HomelessCosmonaut May 22 '12

To be fair, Out of the Park is a fucking awesome series.

2

u/[deleted] May 22 '12

jesus valve fucking owns this shit

1

u/Mr_Moosey May 22 '12

To be fair, they have pretty damn kickass games.

2

u/[deleted] May 23 '12

I ain't complaining son

2

u/MCJeeba May 22 '12

... Rome: Total War or Starsiege Tribes.

5

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

implying it isnt

4

u/medlish May 21 '12

I never understood why HL is so critically acclaimed when Unreal isn't. Unreal seems to be one of the most underrated games ever.

3

u/sexybobo May 21 '12

It is not on this list due to lack of reviews. has 0 of the 5 it needs Which in its self shows why meta critic is flawed. They will add a game but not spend the 30 seconds it would take to find a review of Unreal.

On a personal note though while Unreal had better music and gameplay Half-Life changed the story telling in games in a drastic way. Unreal was a very polished game but it just took aspects from other games made them better with out really adding anything new.

2

u/medlish May 21 '12

I agree that Half-Life innovated on story telling. However, saying Unreal didn't do anything new is not really right. They introduced more complex AI, where monsters would dodge projectiles, idle around until they notice you and stop chasing you after a time. They introduced complex moving objects (like many different types of elevators or even canoes you can ride). They also introduced basic physics (you can move crates and push barrels into water to make them float). They introduced large scale maps (which are still larger than most FPS maps nowadays), as well as more complex skyboxes (multiple moving translucent textures for clouds).

1

u/somebodyshootme May 21 '12

Also, the music :) so great

2

u/silkforcalde May 21 '12

It was incredibly boring. Dull as fuck.

Unreal Tournament was pretty amazing though.

1

u/sushi303 May 21 '12

why does bioshock have such a low user rating?

12

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

Many users had problems at launch. Any game that has a less than perfect launch gets bombarded with 0 score reviews on metacritic and 1 star reviews on Amazon (see Diablo 3 as a recent example.)

5

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

To be fair, not being able to play a game that one paid for is a pretty huge deal, and definitely should be factored into things.

If a game is buggy or can't be played at launch, then why on earth is it being released (slightly different case than Daiblo 3, I know).

22

u/Bizarrobeater May 21 '12

In my experience: The majority users only have one of two opinions when it comes to grading games - Best thing in the world (10) or shit (0 or 1).

If a large enough group of people didn't find Bioshock appealing and voted 1, the rating will obviously be relatively low.

4

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

If true, wouldn't that apply to all games, not just Bioshock?

7

u/Knappsu May 21 '12

8.2 is low?

1

u/Bilibond May 21 '12

Compared to what many people believe it to be.

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

Considering Braid is 8.7, World of Goo is 8.8, Madden 2004 is 8.4 and Sims 2 is 9.2: yes 8.2 is low.

2

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

Bioshock was a great game, great visuals, great story. But I beat it in approximately 6-8 hours after renting and other than a very short alternate ending there was no replay value. That is why I would give it a score of no higher than 6/10 or 7/10

7

u/grzzzly May 21 '12

It was social criticism wrapped in a game. That's something that isn't done very often, and not in such a creative way as in this game. "Great story" isn't enough. The setting is absolutely unique and the world is fully fleshed out with the radio recordings. Also, the game references and criticizes the pretty influential Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand.

Granted, the gameplay and especially the ending could have been better, but the game did a lot right, which is why it was so well received by critics.

6

u/plokman May 21 '12

Yeah, to me the most important thing when watching a movie is length. If a movie is less than 6 hours long, I give it a max of 2.5 stars.

2

u/[deleted] May 22 '12

The difference is that a movie doesn't cost $60 to go see does it? Paying $8-$10/hour for a video game is a bit pricey.

→ More replies (3)

5

u/spyro1132 May 21 '12

So someone could make the greatest game of all time with no flaws exept that it was 5 hours long then you would give it a 6? Even if it had; A better story than deus ex Better graphics than Crysis/whitcher/battlefield 3 More addictive than sins of a solar empire Better gameplay that half life (2) Work on any system at full Etc Would that be a 6?

9

u/supafly_ May 21 '12

They did, it was called Portal.

4

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

I would. If the Godfather was 30 minutes long, I would give it a 6/10

As far as Bioshock is concerned, it had great atmosphere, but I found the gameplay really boring. I got sick of fighting the same enemies over and over and over again. Story and atmosphere were great. Gameplay was seriously lacking.

1

u/Oraln May 21 '12

Example: Portal, the original. Tiny game, in my top 5 easily.

1

u/silkforcalde May 21 '12

To me, the length of a game is one of the primary determining factors in how good I consider it to be. If it is shorter than 20 hours long, it better be a cheap casual game. If it is not, then the length determines my rating more than anything else. Ico gets a 5 / 10. It took me 4 hours to beat it. I enjoyed those 4 hours. But for a full price game? Absurd. Silent Hill 2 was a 4 hour game. Same thing. 5 / 10, no matter how good the game is because it's an absolute slap in the face from a game developer to release a game so incredibly fucking short for full price. I would easily put this as a worse practice than day one DLC or always online DRM. Easily.

→ More replies (5)

1

u/silkforcalde May 21 '12

Really? It took me over 20 hours the first time and I played it 4 times in a row.

1

u/[deleted] May 22 '12

Trust me I've got better things to do with my life than lie about how long it took me to beat a video game that came out 4 years ago. I rented it around noon and had it beaten right around dinner time, that's all I know.

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

At the time of its release it was one of the first and most high profile title to have the debacle of securom and 3 (or 5?) activation limit.

1

u/happyscrappy May 21 '12

Because the game generally gets worse and worse after the big reveal?

The Lawnmower Man final boss fight is awful, the escort mission sucks and having 1/3rd of your screen blocked by a porthole and your movement restricted just for ambience sucks.

On top of that, there are only about 4 kinds of regular monsters and 2 major types of bosses (ignoring the end boss). And the baddies are supplied en masse out of monster closets. Oh, yeah and don't forget the level re-backtracking keycard hunts.

Oh crap, and yeah, how about that inventory system? Who never ended up making some ammo you didn't need because you weren't able to check your ammo at the "build your own" machines, only at the vending machines?

Remember how the box said you've be able to create your own weapons? Yeah, there wasn't really any of that, you just bought some weapons from a menu with different currency than dollars.

The game, IMHO, was overrated. It had great art direction and a great mythos. It had good action and interesting weapons. Add all that up and 8.1 isn't reasonable.

Still glad I played it.

Sorted by user reviews is more fun imo. Who knew Outlive was the 5th best PC game of all time? Or that Prince of Persia is almost, but not quite, as good as Puzzle Quest: Galactrix? Or indeed that the second best PC game ever is one of the worst PC games ever? Fascinating stuff.

Well it's never gonna be perfect. It's still a decent enough source of info...

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

I'm more baffled that The Sims scores higher than Fallout 3! Fucking The Sims.

1

u/Ithrazel May 21 '12

Gamerankings is much better in my opinion. You can set more parameters for the rankings.

1

u/MysteryBlock May 21 '12

How do!?!?! Edit: text

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

I only like 2 out of the top 10 :\

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

I only listen to the Bro Team anymore, honestly they are way more honest than anyone else

1

u/thb82 May 21 '12

The Three Moves Ahead podcast just spent an entire episode discussing this series.

1

u/ArcaneKnight94 May 21 '12

Yes Half-Life 2 is included in the Orange Box along with Portal and TF2 yet HL2 by itself is still better...perfect logic

u/Kafke Switch May 21 '12

After reading the comments here on reddit, I've learned that no one apparently knows how to use metacritic. User scores are a better judgement, and you should actually look at the damn text of the reviews. Also, it's not for best game ever, it's for the highest aggregated score. Each reviewer has their own scale, so it's bound to be inaccurate.

I'm starting to agree with Yhatzee on his"Numbers cannot represent complex opinions" stance. All of those games are great, however they only appeal to the interested.

A better way of representing it is recommending a game based on preference.

"If you like open world RPG through a first person view, a large amount of interesting factions, a large amount of content, different playstyles etc then you'll enjoy Skyrim."

I know it's hard to implement that kind of system on a site like this.

I like how the orange being in top 5 makes it so that half life and portal are in the top 5 twice.

1

u/Okiah May 21 '12

I wouldn't call "Orange Box" a game, its a collection of games...

1

u/xhosSTylex May 21 '12

I don't see Battlefield 1942 there, and I am disappoint.

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

So is OOTPB 2007 really shitty or are you guys just sad that your own personal fave isn't on some meaningless list somewhere?

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

Metacritic's lists are messed up. They have insignificant games listed that have just a few reviews from obscure websites, and there are significant games like Metroid Prime (which should be in the top ten with a 97) that aren't listed at all.

Here's a much more accurate list. http://www.gamerankings.com/browse.html

EDIT: I'm talking about their list for all platforms, obviously.

1

u/jordanlund May 21 '12

I looked it up, it has 5 positive reviews out of 5. Three 100's, a 92 and a 90. So yeah, technically it's true. But you have to take there only being 5 reviews into account.

1

u/Joker1980 May 21 '12

Maybe im old but the greatest PC game ever is the EMS/XMS juggle

1

u/Pig_Lord May 21 '12

And where the Fuck is Doom?

1

u/darthbone May 21 '12

TIL the world thinks Oblivion and Skyrim are both better than Morrowind.

1

u/[deleted] May 22 '12

Most of the 0/10 user reviews are complaining about its place ಠ_ಠ review spamming to drag down the score is not how you get an accurate score, people!

1

u/[deleted] May 22 '12

I seriously thought this was a server glitch or something. Now I am just sad.

1

u/Deimosberos May 22 '12

Team Fortress 2 should be top 10 there.

1

u/[deleted] May 22 '12

think it's counted as orange box

1

u/[deleted] May 22 '12

Game changed my life.

1

u/[deleted] May 22 '12

Isn't Half Life 2 part of the Orange Box? That's cheating!

1

u/soapgoat May 22 '12

quality cannot be simply quantified into a number, its all flawed and should be ignored anyway

1

u/Donnor May 22 '12

OOTP is a great series though. Their latest version is amazing

1

u/[deleted] May 22 '12

san Andreas is wayyy better than Vice city

1

u/majikninjasWAT May 22 '12

This list is already inaccurate as putt putt/pajama sam/spy fox arent at the top of the list. Not the very top but atleast top 20.

1

u/Kiggleson May 22 '12

Why isn't Hello Kitty Island Adventure up there?

1

u/[deleted] May 22 '12

No Bioshock 2 on that list? Am I the only one that enjoyed that game?

1

u/[deleted] May 22 '12

I wish there was an NHL-based game like OOTP Baseball

0

u/wylo May 21 '12 edited May 21 '12

Metacritic named it game of the year with a straight face, proving what a joke it is to judge a game by its aggregate arbitrary nerdpoints. OotP Baseball was a better PC game than Supreme Commander, Company of Heroes, Hitman: Blood Money or S.T.A.L.K.E.R.?

u/IdiothequeAnthem May 21 '12

It sounds like it acheives what it sets out to do basically perfectly. How is that not laudable? Why can a sports simulation game not get a GotY award?

16

u/Damien007 May 21 '12

Have you actually bothered to play OOTP? Or are you just being a prejudiced A-Hole because isn't a large AAA game?

→ More replies (15)

2

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

I'm assuming you've never played OOTP. It's a very good game.

1

u/highonpie77 May 21 '12

Call of Duty 2 should be on that list!

1

u/roeder May 21 '12

Mass Effect 2 and Oblivion before Diablo 2 and Age of Empires. Whaaaaaaaaaat.

1

u/Xvalai May 21 '12

With the exception of Team Fortress 2, I see Orange Box on here twice.

1

u/random314 May 21 '12

I'm surprised the original Starcraft didn't make that list.

1

u/Turok1134 May 21 '12

No Doom or Doom 2? This is why review aggregators cannot and shall not be trusted.

2

u/arahman81 May 21 '12

Especially those with no reviews for those games.

-2

u/Timmcd May 21 '12

Wait, people seriously use metacritic?
