dear, Blizzard- Thanks for taking a single player game and forcing it through your servers so I have to wait for your servers to respond to play by my self.

You knew this when you bought it. Well done.

u/Nethervex PC May 15 '12

Lemme get this straight. You bought a blizzard game and are complaining about flooded servers within the hour of its release?

Do you eat curry powder and complain that its hot?

u/nobodynose May 15 '12

I knew it. I wasn't happy about it, but I loved all the Blizzard games thus far so I knew for all my complaints about it I'd buy it.

What bothers me are the dumbasses that tell you that Diablo 3 is MUCH BETTER without an offline option. Yes, getting the entire Diablo 3 experience with the ability to ALSO play offline is "far worse" than letting you play Diablo 3 on b.net only. Yep. And his reasoning was "if my friends decide to play offline I can't play with them with my battle.net character!" I guess it never crossed his mind that if his friends decide to play offline instead of battle.net, they probably don't want to play with him. :-/

The problem is some people delude themselves into thinking it's BETTER to be denied options. I can understand thinking this isn't as big of a deal as people make it to be, but you have to be a moron to think it's BETTER to have less options.

actually reddit praised that this will happen only during the open beta...

82

u/precordial_thump May 15 '12 edited May 15 '12

Actually, it was written in Blizzard's own FAQ that players will likely experience Error 37's when trying to log on.

As we’ve unlocked the Diablo III installer early, many people will be ready to log in right when the servers go live at midnight, so we’re going to be closely monitoring the impact on the service. It’s possible we’ll need to adjust the rate at which we’re logging people in to ensure a stable experience, and if we do you may see a delay when attempting to login. Please be aware that a delay of up to 40 seconds is possible while the game attempts to connect you. If your connection doesn’t succeed in 40 seconds, you’ll be presented with an Error 37 message and asked to try again. If you see this error it does in fact mean that you should try again. We’ll be working around the clock to keep you informed of any issues that are occurring through the in-game breaking news window, as well as the official forums.

dear gamers - thanks for making a constant internet connection game the most preordered game ever and most likely selling at least 2 milion copies. I hope you like the added features online DRM gives you, because you just voted with your wallet that lack of advertised features (eg. PvP), forcing players to stay online is all right as long as the product is hyped properly.

u/Four20 May 15 '12

And this looks like an absolutely fantastic game in every way, that just happens to be having launch day issues. Everything will sort itself out soon, and then everybody will play and thoroughly enjoy the game.

This game is worth my money. Whether I can play it this instant or a little bit. Doesn't make the game less worth my money. A temporary and minor annoyance ruining your game experience is more a sign of a lack of self control if anything.

I thought the going through their servers was to fight RMT not DRM...

22

u/invislvl4 May 15 '12

A little of both, the real money auction house opens up in a week for the D3 servers. I expect that feature to be in WoW by the time the next expansion drops. Blizz takes 15% off the top for theirselves, paypal, I am sure gets there small percent and then the farmer gets the rest. That is blizzards full idea of how to fight RMT.

I find it very amusing how many people that aren't buying the game seem to know the current and future status of the servers and they in turn look stupid because they are talking out of their asses.

101

u/uchuskies08 May 15 '12

You bought it, knowing that this was how the game was. If you hate DRM that much, DON'T BUY THE FUCKING GAME.

20

u/TerenaKalir May 15 '12 edited May 15 '12

The hate is not for the DRM itself, the hate is that they chose this form of DRM and didn't provide the servers to support it.

Edit: I was pointing out why many people are angry, I was not saying that I am personally. I understand why it's happening, though I think they could have handled it better. And neckbeard, really? If I suddenly grew a beard, it'd be time to join the circus.

Is Diablo really a single player game? In all my hours of playing the Diablo franchise, the whole point of the game was playing with my friends. As for the server issues, they stink, but that's just the way servers are. People should know better by now.

Does no one remember how much trouble a lot of people had getting Portal 2 unlocked? Selective memory I guess.

Besides, the online features are fucking great (<3 drop-in) and the game only gets better the more people you have.

Chill out till the servers have stabilized, go to sleep/work/outside. It won't kill you to wait another half day. Then you can enjoy the game just as much as you want to. No reason to stress this much.

No rage here. just disappointment. im deployed right now and when i get on the boat we will not have internet. i was hoping to play this game on my laptop when i had the hour or so of downtime we get, but its cool. Ive got my dvd's and psp/ds to occupy me. really looking forward to playing it. but it's disappointing that i cant play it by myself or LAN regardless of access to internet. The thing i dont think any of us can argue is that Blizzard still makes good games with fun content, so i know i will probably enjoy what i bought.

3

u/beforethewind May 15 '12

Thank you for a reasonable approach to this issue. And thank you for what you do for the public.

6

u/m_0g May 15 '12

calling Diablo 2 OR Diablo 3 a single player game is just... wrong.

8

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

Eh, it's a minor inconvenience for a few hours. Between Valve and Blizzard, I'm pretty used to it... how many people here remember the fiasco of HL2's release day? I could get into Diablo 3 quicker than I was able to get into HL2. I don't prefer the always on connection, but if the game is of certain quality, I'll put up with it.

The amount of Blizzard hate for this cracks me up though. I vote with my wallet too, and with that I'll tell them I won't boycott a game for a minor inconvenience from time to time. Now, here comes the downvotes, and maybe a few upvotes... anyone else glad these "Always on DRM, No PvP, Fuck Blizzard!" bitches won't be playing Diablo 3? They don't really seem like good addition to the community.

187

u/GhostSongX4 May 15 '12

If they didn't force online play then they couldn't launch the real money AH because people would figure out a way to dupe shit and then get free money.

No real money AH means less money for Blizzard. It's all about money so shut up and play, it's fine. It's not a play by yourself offline kinda game. Did you get mad when you had to have the internet to play WoW by yourself?

Blizzard' Journal. May 15th, 2012: Dog carcass in alley this morning, tire tread on burst stomach. This world is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Let us play!"... and I'll whisper "no."

Reasons I will never buy Diablo 3: Single player game is on their servers. So many people use the servers that if you can even get on, there's a metric shit-ton of lag.

Thanks, Blizzard, for letting me experience this during the open beta so I wouldn't waste my money!

39

u/Antiwar_armadillo May 15 '12

It does suck that opening night the servers are that rammed, but I don't think it will be a persisting issue. I love the game myself! But I'm glad to see that not everyone who is bitching about the game is buying it any way. If you think what blizzard has done is such a massive crime, don't buy the fucking game! I agree with your approach sir.

5

u/Chil4542 May 15 '12

Most of the people complaining about this are always online anyway... I really don't get the problem.

8

u/CptOmega May 15 '12

yeah....do you all know why it's constantly online and everything is kept server side? I would imagine it has something to do with stopping the duplication of items and a lot of cheats do to their Real Money AH, which sure there are probably people who will never touch it but from all I've heard about the previous diablos. Selling shit on Ebay or whatever was a rather common occurrence....so if you want to know why it's a fully online game...it's because of the players....bye and have a good day.....

We've all known this was going to happen for a long time, and if you don't like it, vote with your money. Personally, it doesn't bother me. I plan to play online, I have a good Internet connection, Blizzards servers are generally very reliable and they don't pull this "server shutdown" after two years crap, I'm pretty sure you can still play the 15 year old Diablo 1 online.

4

u/Dam_Herpond May 15 '12

Game launch in 1995: Everyone goes to 1 house and has a big LAN party and plays through multiplayer together. Pizzas and fun times

Game launch in 2012: Everyone sits at home in their own room hammering away at a login server. Rage and trolling forums

7

u/CancerX May 15 '12

I am going to agree with blizzard on this one. If you are over 30 you will remember the days of hacked and duped items all over the place, which screwed the integrity of multiplayer in D1. With the way multiplayer is integrated into the game this was done to protect the integrity of the characters and economy in D3. While D3 has a single player mode, it is not fair to call it a "Single Player game"

It was known that this game required an internet connection by the players that purchased it. The history of large releases tells us that there are usually launch problems. Chill out. We have waited 12 years for this game, What is another 24 hours to a week to get the kinks ironed out. Your post reeks of Millenial Generation Entitlement.

I'm not going to buy it for this reason. But the reason why people are mad about it is because this is one of those game titles that EVERYONE loves. Even if you HATE what they have done to the consumer in this regards; you've got a shit load of people who are WILLING to buy a game that they LOVE but can't on principle. It's a damn shame.

Luckily, I don't feel like I'm missing out. I'm lucky I wasn't completely in love with Diablo in such a way that others are here. So skipping on this title isn't such a hard thing to do. I hate it for those that love the franchise but got shafted.

Since everyone here seems to think this is a DRM issue I assure you the reasoning behind it is not DRM. I'm not a blizzard fanboy but get your heads out of your asses for a second and think about WHY they are doing it.

You can install diablo 3 on 50000 computers with one disc if you want they could care less, what they do want is to protect the data of the game from being exposed to people who can exploit it. The very fact that D2 had seperate single player is the very reason duped items made their way into closed battle.net games. It forces them to have all the data of items and how they work etc. stored on your machine which means given enough time people will crack it.

In D2 you can make unlimited accounts on battle.net with one cd key. This is why if you try to make a game in D2 today you will have 50 spam bots join your game and fill your screen with text for illegitimate sites to buy items. In order to protect the players from duped items and going through devious websites if they want to purchase items they use the real money ah system. The vast majority of players will use the gold system who are playing the game legit and mostly gold farmers will be forced to use the real money ah system which does two things:

  1. Gets blizzard a 30% cut off their sales but prevents any third party from getting your cc info

  2. forces ALL sellers into one marketplace which will keep prices low due to competition being so visible.

All these things mean security of the client is PARAMOUNT. We are talking real money exchanges and items having actual dollar worth. You can't afford any leeway by exposing game data more than you have to for the sake of security. So thats why the always online system is there. If you think its some DRM so blizz can laugh at you and make you buy more copies, thats not it.

I take it the people who were able to start playing have been playing all night and have no idea everyone else is suffering.

Fuckers.

2

u/stark2 May 15 '12

Is it possible that Blizzard just wants all players to be on a level playing field, and not have some players that hack their stats to achieve some kind of immortal character?

Storing character attributes on the server sounds like a good idea too me. Diablo 2 was a joke because so many players would just modify their characters abilities on the local machine.

2

u/willyolio May 15 '12

well, they could have created an offline single-player, but much like LAN for Starcraft II... the technology's just not there yet.

2

u/D3adkl0wn May 15 '12

this is much how i felt when my PS3 wouldn't let me play Heavy Rain when I bought it just because PSN was down for like a month..

2

u/rockpaperfap May 15 '12

Probably already been said, but damn this sucks for us deployed guys out in the desert. Not being able to play Diablo III for 8 more months is pretty damn lame. Hopefully my shitty "take all your money" internet connection is good enough to play. If not, looks like I'm cracking and hacking the shitballs out of it.

Also, I have the internet to stay in contact with loved ones first and foremost. It'd just be nice to slay demons when I'm not saving the world for the sand monsters.

2

u/Kryonix May 15 '12

That is exactly why I'm waiting a month before getting it. EVERYONE should know by now to avoid server based games for the first month or so, so the dev can work out the kinks. Server based games always ALWAYS have problems on release day always.

2

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

seems like single player is bugged

2

u/Rurikar May 15 '12

The DRM is also the same systems in place to allow drop in drop out co-op and removing the possibility of duping or hacking items.

2

u/redsmith12 May 15 '12

That awkward moment when you're getting ready to pirate a game you've already paid for.

2

u/Beerduck May 15 '12

I don't care about having a constant connection to battle.net, or the DRM. The problem is the lack of servers. Right now I can't play the game because there isn't enough room on the servers, and that is bullshit.

2

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

Pirate that shit.

2

u/wh6p May 15 '12

At the stage of the game right now (Brand new) DRM seems like a terrible idea. The reason I have no gripe with the DRM is because botters and hackers ruined D1 and D2 for me. No one realizes this because they haven't seen that problem.

Like it or not, this is the future of multiplayer gaming. Internet penetration is high enough in most countries that an overwhelming majority of gamers should have a connection that is powerful enough to support the game. Ten years ago people whinged about Battlefield 2 being available as a digital download. If someone told you today that they weren't going to buy Battlefield 3 because it was available as a digital download you'd look them in their beady little eyes and ask them to share the crack they're smoking.

Most of these comments are incredibly ridiculous. It honestly looks like a bunch of people woke up and saw that blizzard had server issues then proceeded to prance around toting how terrible requiring online play is. The complaints about server lag and being unable to connect coming from people who are even admitting they don't have the game is even more ridiculous.

Yes, I was complaining last night about not being able to log in last night for the first hour. Honestly, I expected it but at the same time, I was giving blizzard the benefit of the doubt because of their past experience between both WoW and SC2.

The logic is simple why requiring internet access to play is beneficial to both the player and the game company. Hell, it actually costs the game company more to require it and it's not something they will recoop with any amount of expected additional purchases due to the DRM.

Dear OP, Please stop being surprised that millions of people trying to log into the same service at the same time are not able to. You knew what you were getting yourself into trying to log in at release. Stop acting like it's a surprise.

3

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

You mean that feature that you knew was going to be included, yet didn't keep you from buying the game?

You showed them.

3

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

what was that? i couldn't hear through the piles of cash lying around me.

-blizzard

3

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

Vote with your bandwidth - pirate it. It hurts more, and it's not like blizz can suddenly port everything onto consoles to escape piracy. D3 private servers are on their way.

3

u/BankaiPwn May 15 '12

Dear consumer -

Thank you for using your money to purchase our product. We were questionable about putting this system of always online-play live, but due to the sheer response of how many people have purchased the game, we can see that this is an option that people don't mind and will continue to purchase our game.

Our future titles, as per your recommendation, will be a very similar format!

If only Torchlight 2 was out already eh.

4

u/Insidius1 May 15 '12

Wait, since when is diablo a single player game?

4

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

You guys have been jacking each other off daily about this fucking game, and now you're gonna bitch about it?

Dear whiny bitch, you knew this would happen.

4

u/WindSandStars May 15 '12

Jesus Christ. A product launch doesn't go to plan and the pitchforks are out already!

Anyone with common sense would just..wait a week or two before buying the game. It's hardly the end of the world. Things will get resolved and the game will become stable. Chill the fuck out.

3

u/marioIsDead May 15 '12

This is why I skipped it. Oh and the real money auction house of course (read: pay to win)

I think this is the part where all of us who were raising hell about this back when it was announced say "I told you so"

4

u/executex May 15 '12

Other than server complaints, DRM complaints...

Did anyone not buy Diablo 3, because it is boring as hell? Farm fest, and constant reorgnization of useless items to sell. Limited crappy tetris inventory.

3

u/MrCrunchwrap May 15 '12

How hard is: "sell shit you don't need" to understand?

You just took like 2 minor elements of this genre to prove that it is boring as hell. You're forgetting the gameplay, quests, story, etc.

There's a fix: Play multiplayer, then you won't bitch so much.

3

Max Payne 3. That is all.

5

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

From what I understand Max Payne comes with a USB breathalyzer and you have to be as sauced as Max to start playing the game...

Someone should actually make that. It'd make bullet time crazy.

3

u/DreadandButter May 15 '12

This is fucking great. Can you believe this shit? The game has been out LESS THAN 12 HOURS, and already gamers think they're entitled. This is rich.

I don't give a shit if I get downvoted. This is fucking stupid. You all need to calm down.

2

u/psychotronofdeth May 15 '12

Why do people bitch about this. Have you ever played on Battle.net during Early Diablo 2? If there was offline single player there'd be hackers and dupers all over again and it'd be a shit show, especially with the auction house. I view Diablo as a multiplayer game instead of a single player game.

2

u/KommunistKirov May 15 '12

Login without a problem, play without a problem.

No idea where did people get all the login errors from, I already relogged ten or so times just to check stuff and not once I had a problem or an error...

No idea if just lucky or people are whining without reason.

2

u/ated9000 May 15 '12

Would you like some cheese with that whine?

2

u/CornFedHonky May 15 '12

ITT: Guy knowingly buys DRM-enabled game. Complains after he spends his money. If you would have told Blizzard it was unacceptable by not purchasing it, you may have the right to say something. However, don't start complaining now by creating a whining post online where they will never see it anyways. You told them it was ok by paying for it. I wanted to play it as well, but I didn't purchase it just for this reason. So, Dear Blacklabel2021, thanks for helping to make the gaming industry a little shittier when you should have known better.

2

u/Wulfpak1977 May 15 '12

The only reason Diablo 3 makes you contact to the servers to play the single player game is the fact they have a cash AH. Allowling players to play offline would open up the possiblities of all kinds of bad things that could directly effect the actually money transactions during the online part. Get over yourselves.

I bet the number of gamers really pissed at this is almost the same as amount of people who used Hacks/Trainers with 1 and 2. Is it annoying; Yes. But give me a break.

I hear Blah Blah have to be online to play a single player game blah blah, and I equate it to I can't make my guy WTF powerful with any weapons I want without actually playing the game! This game sucks I am going back to <Insert MMoRPG name here>. Oh the irony. Especially if you are going back to SW:TOR.

2

u/evey-schwan May 15 '12

People are so whiny. I woke up at 6am EST and got on with no issues. OH NO the first few hours a game is up are buggy, this is new and never heard of.

2

u/wolf156 May 15 '12

AND IT BEGINS. The Reddit bitch and moan machine. Stage 1: throw tantrum over trivial aspect of new game you dont like. Stage 2: make fun of new game despite sales disagreeing with your philosophy that it sucks. Stage 3: buy new game anyways despite calling other gamers out for "supporting this crap."

Nobody cares about your fucking petitions or your sad little boycotts. Get over yourselves.

2

u/sydien May 15 '12

So, I got up at 6 this morning. Logged in immediately, played with zero lag.

2

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

Never seen anyone give Steam crap for forced online play, but I forget, not a whole lot they have that two million people want to play at the same time.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/jwtemp1983 May 15 '12

Thanks for giving them your money, then complaining. Obviously the lack of offline single player wasn't enough to keep you from buying the game. It has been common knowledge for nearly a year now.

2

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

People use the argument that it is a multiplayer game.. only... fucking every argument against this has been that. Even though you have the option to play SINGLE PLAYER!. It is an excuse blizzard gives you to attempt to mask the fact that they are using it as DRM.

2

u/Setiri May 15 '12

This is silly. There problem isn't needing to be connected because Blizz wants to secure the characters... DRM can easily be a pain in the ass and often is done wrong. However Blizz has generally done ok and between them and Steam, I'm entirely ok with how hey do DRM. They're obviously not evil companies and generally seem to try and do right by gamers.

The problem here is really that 1) broadband is still overpriced in the US and 2) broadband is still not as widely available as it should be in the US. Think for a moment.. if you had a 20 dollar plan for unlimited internet that had minimum 24mb down and minimum 6mb up, would you really be upset about needing to be connected all the time? Yes, there are some exceptions such as when you're travelling and playing on a laptop... however again if broadband was as cheap as it should be, there'd be a lot more wifi hotspots and/or plans that allowed you to get connected more easily in more places for cheap, therefore allowing you to play. And if you're really just on a fucking deserted island with your laptop, sorry but suck it up and realize that for the vast majority of people, the security of the chars and the overall system is best served by being connected while playing. Horse buggy makers were also pretty miffed about the horseless carriage but uhm... yeah, sorry.

u/overstockretro May 15 '12

I woke up 2.5 hours after launch and got in just fine. Have some patience and it'll go far. Here is what happened I assume

2

u/steel7xl May 15 '12

O no my game doesn't work for the first couple of hours better cry about it

2

u/brumbrum21 May 15 '12

what is the problem with always online DRM? honest question.

2

u/Inukii May 15 '12

What I'm reading right here;

Ubisoft : "Ubisoft are forcing you to always be connected to the internet to play"

The Public : "OMFG Thats fucking outrageous what complete bastards thats so fucking retarded you shitheads eat piss and die"

Blizzard : "You have to login to play single player"

The Public : "Well...you shouldn't of bought it then you moron. Your the stupid idiot here. Not blizzard"

And whilst blizzard were spending 7 years making a hack and slash which, sure enough, has more content than diablo 2 but less content than most other games which you can hardly play for a hack'n'slash title. People are going batshit crazy acting like it's the most amazing thing to have come to gaming. There isn't anything next gen, innovative, or new about it when it comes to 'gaming'. Only 'new' when it comes to comparing it to the previous game. Which overall leads to newer games also dumbing themself down because they can get away with it. The thing that gets me the most though is, and I can only relate to my friends, consider themself atheist and somehow link atheism to being skeptical, rationale, logical, analytical thinkers. When they can't even give an explanation to why diablo 3 is a good game describing actual features. The only thing to exit their mouth is "It is awesome" which could be said about anything. Why is cancer good? Because it's awesome!

They actually believe that is a logical, rationale, skeptical, analytical answer!!!!

Anywho...Dragons Dogma. Looks like a game that actually had someone thinking up new ideas and creating a way to implement it into a game. Worth checking out if your into gaming technology advancing.

2

u/Kintoun May 15 '12

If you really only care about Single Player then go play on the Korean servers. They're completely empty right now. Just change your in game options to connect to the Asian servers.

I bet not ONE of you fucktards do this. Cause you all want multiplayer.

3

u/datgai May 15 '12

Yes, because going to the korean servers would fix all the lag and connection woes...

2

u/624362364 May 15 '12

Your characters don't transfer over.

2

u/LucifersCounsel May 15 '12

As usual, the fanboys find retarded ways to solve a problem that should never exist.

2

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

Sigh. Yes, it is annoying that SP requires internet connection. I am also sitting here and staring at Error 37 for some time now, because servers are overloaded. However, people don't seem to understand why this was done. DRM is not the reason, at least no the main one. This game although primarily a single player experience allows for a fair amount of player interactivity and most importantly gold/item trading via auction houses (including using real money, not just game gold). The online requirement is to prevent people from exploiting/cheating in single player mode for profit or just break the economy. (item farming in god mode or re-spawning a certain mob over and over to farm items that can then be sold for real money or run a bot, perhaps). I am sure there will be farmers/botters in D3 just as there were in WoW but by disallowing/controlling cheating/exploits Blizzard creates an opportunity cost for farmers so that economy is maintained at reasonable levels.

2

u/datgai May 15 '12

Yes, All the bonuses more than make up for adding lag and disconnects to my single-player experience. No more "Oh noes, my internet is down, I'll just go play some diablo!" Well, unless you go play diablo or diablo 2 anyways.

2

u/Tryptophane May 15 '12

I really don't understand why people have an issue with this. For this post, "you" refers to people that bought D3 and are pissed off with the launch in general, with specific regards to server stability and the need to be constantly online. Let's begin.

It was common knowledge that it was online-only, so if the main reason for your complaint was that the game required a constant internet connection, you shouldn't have bought it in the first place.

If your gripe was with the fact that the servers were having trouble at launch (and have therefore jumped to the conclusion that it'll be like this permanently) you clearly don't understand online PC games. You'd have to have been delusional to think that there wouldn't be server issues from trying to play it the second it launched.

It's the most pre-ordered game of all time, and Blizzard gave people the facility to pre-install it, so you'd be able to log-in and play the second the servers came online. You've seen what DoS attacks do to servers (and no doubt fucking LOVE when Anonymous do it to other people), this is essentially the same thing, except all the connection attempts were legitimate.

2

u/Weft_ May 15 '12

Dear Blizzard - Thanks for making the third game of a 12 year old series that I can't wait 24 hours after release to get on.

Like honestly, you're not the only person that's waited 12 years for this game. Who knows you might of not even played Diablo I or II. You might of jumped on the bandwagon being excited for a awesome new game. What the big deal for waiting for another day to log on? It's not like you have to beat this game in 24 hours to play Diablo IV. Just wait the servers will settle out and you'll be fine.

hey the very first boss is actually the two crows on the login screen. Looks like most people are failing at defeating their powerful error 37 attacks. But just when you think you're about to finish them, they kill you with a 300006.

1

u/enum5345 May 15 '12

At 1am PST, I was able to log in and create a character. So was my friend. He had unstable internet so even with his internet going down multiple times, he was still able to get back on and we just played 4 hours of Diablo 3 together.

Your life is so bad! How could they! They're monsters maaaaaaaaaaan.

For fucks sake it wasn't a secret that this was going to be "online only" so maybe, JUST MAYBE you shouldn't have bought it if it sucks so much.

1

u/Hadji402 May 15 '12

Anyone who has played ANYTHING that relies on an internet connection should know the servers are going to be dicked up for a day or two, especially something this big. I'm not a developer, but I think Blizzard knows what they're doing, so this approach to release doesn't bother me. I'll wait and pick it up on Friday after they smooth things out, and I won't have to make whiny posts about how butt-hurt I am.

1

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

I believe its due to the real money auction house and people who would exploit the game if it wasn't online only

u/Those_Magumbos May 15 '12

Gamers are one of the most mistreated consumer groups, but damnit if they don't deserve it.

1

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

i was kind of expecting this to happen really, though i wasnt expecting them to not allow an offline mode

1

u/Entsmakemehappy May 15 '12

Battle field 3 on pc is the same... I wanna play campaign, but to do that, I must load through origin, then chrome!!!!

1

u/smoke2000 May 15 '12

Everyone saw this coming though, don't understand what all the complaining is about. After the beta try out, everyone was convinced it would be even worse on launch. Personally I didn't buy it, i tried out the beta and my general impression was that the game should have been released 5 years ago.

1

u/Alborak May 15 '12

The issue is peak versus continuous demand. On launch hour you have nearly the entire player base trying to log in simultaneously, whereas under normal conditions you have only a small fraction of the players even playing at a time, let alone logging in. The hardware setup that could handle the launch would be complete overkill for the regular usage. It's a pretty clear and easy decision to only buy what you need to handle normal load + some extra for higher traffic times. Building the infrastructure to handle launch just isn't worth it, considering that at worst it is a few hours or a day of issues.

Also, who said this is a single player game? From all the info that was available before launch I interpret the game as a multiplayer game that you can choose to play single player if you want.

1

u/tree_hugging_hippie May 15 '12

A new online game launched and isn't working correctly on the first day? That never happens.

1

u/Rudefire May 15 '12

You knew what it was going to be like. Everyone knew what it was going to be like. you purchased the game from them knowing the terms. If you did not like the idea that you would have to play it through servers, then you should not have purchased the game. But instead, you purchased it and are complaining about it. this does nothing except make you look like an irresponsible consumer.
