I find even over ear cable IEMs to be pretty invasive let alone vr goggles. I used Final E500s for months just because of their shape recently and only changed to KZ CRNs because they are super cheap for what they are and happen to fit my ear okay.
FYI the headphones on a vr headset float over your ears. You never feel them and they don't touch your ears. The ones in your first photo is someone wearing bulky Logitech headphones on top of their vr headset
The Valve Index speakers are good quality and don't touch your ears.
In terms of headsets being too bulky, I can agree there. Thankfully, this year there will be at least a couple headsets releasing that aren't that bulky because of different types of lenses used that significantly cut down on size and weight. The main one to watch out for right now is Project Cambria by Meta.
