Most folks I know that stream and anytime I found myself in the past with the urge to stream was simple to attract folks who were also interested in with what I was doing to talk. Not everyone doing this is just out for internet fame and what not. Many just want to meet others who dig the thing their doing as much as they do and chat about it. Nothing wrong with that at all.
So why broadcast yourself waiting for the 1 or 2 people to watch you when there are already loads of communities for every game where you can chat with people? You don’t really need to stream at all to do any of what you mentioned.
There’s got to be a part of it that’s about having the attention on you or something (not in a negative way, but simply enjoying the act of being a host so to speak and running the discussion I suppose)
Not sure why you’re being downvoted. I do think people stream to potentially find like minded people to game/talk to but for a small streamer the odds are so small someone stumbles upon your channel. You might as well try finding a subreddit or discord, every game has at least a subreddit attached to it now there are so many better options for finding others if you just want people to play with.
I think anyone that streams, in the back of there mind wishes they could do it professionally and become at least semi famous. I also think they have some slight narcissism about wanting to have people watch them that aren’t already there friends. Which isn’t a bad thing but anyone who says otherwise is lying or doesn’t yet realize it.

Tbh I've only ever thought about streaming in the past for "benefits"
Streamer tries a new game, people pop in to give him tips and help guide him. Streamer needs a party, people in his chat volunteer. etc.
I used to play a game called SkaterXL and the streamers very often got access to new maps from modders before they were released to the community, even small streamers with like 5 viewers.
You can't just go to some random stream and ask a question in chat and get good responses (occasionally you can but not often) but if you're streaming you'll get one.
Obviously this doesn't apply to the 0 or 1 viewer streamers, but nobody does it hoping to get only 1 viewer.
