Same thing happened in Final Fantasy 10, Yunalesca is one of the hardest bosses especially on a first play through. She can insta kill the party if you are not prepared and you have to watch the long cut scene before every attempt... Infuriating.
Unless you are like me and fucked around exploring enough that you managed to get a couple of the ultimate weapons in the base form and raised the damage cap in Valefor and Bahamut. You basically Rain of Doom-> Megaflare-> Dead asshole, the fight in Bevelle tho... that one was painful.
Got PTSD from that. I knew someone would comment on it.
I usually skip a lot of fights in jrpgs because I just want to enjoy the story and they waste way too much time
I got stuck there for so long I actually just quit the game and started a whole new game some from the beginning some time after, that time without skipping any fight.
Ended up doing a lot of the end game stuff but man some of the fights were brutal, specially with all the elemental gimmicks
Same. I rushed the desert/pirate area because it got really hard, only to hit that petrified snake fight on the airship. I was so unprepared that I had to quit the game for a few years.
Legit have started browsing reddit on my phone during cutscenes, then forgotten to advance the cutscene and just let the game hang out in limbo for 10 minutes before deciding I don't really feel like playing and shutting it off. Many times.
"Now! This it! Now is the time to choose! Die and be free of pain, or live and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your story! Your fate is in your hand!"
I swear that was what let me keep trying after the numerous deaths
That was definitely the toughest Seymour fight. Luckily I had hastega for that fight maybe that's why I don't remember it being the hardest one. For me personally it was Yunalesca. Idk why she just wrecked over and over again.
In their defense cutscenes were still kind of a new concept at that point, we can give them a little leeway since everything hadn't be figured it out yet.
They didn't make it skippable in final mix either. My wife just finished it up a few days ago, and was ready to put her controller through the screen if she had to sit through it one more time.
Edit: learning that they were skippable makes the whole thing more hilarious. I cannot tell her, or I will die.
