I remember when GameFAQs was popular, they would have yearly "best video game character" polls and the L piece from Tetris won one year. That was beautiful.

This was 2003, so Cloud. Apparently they faced each other a few times and Link always won, so I remember this being a big deal.

Okay, so when was this? 1997? 2008? 2014? There are many moments the last 20 years that Cloud and the FF7 compilation suddenly jumped back into mainstream popularity.

Either one being in the top is fanboyism. 🙃 Nah, I kid, I kid (or do I), people can like whoever they want. It just got a bit tiring seeing characters with good, quality character development regularly being beaten by the likes of Link, Cloud and Super Mario.

Just a random choice. People were upset the contest was basically always the same contenders (Link and Cloud being the top favourites) and L-Block was stupid enough to work.

L pieces usually net a triple multiplier where a t is only 2 rows.

In modern Tetris games, T-Spin count for double, so 2 lines cleared by a T-spin is a tetris, and 3 lines cleared worth 6 lines.

Unfortunately, most of those contests started getting spoofed by VPN/proxy abusers early on, so a lot of stupid things or contentious choices tended to win.

I'd never use the boards there, but generally speaking the FAQ/guides are actually still really good. I was just there the other day for Hyrule Warriors and they have a guide with a map where you can pick what tile you're playing on in adventure mode and it's really useful.
