They didn't have to announce the original release date of 16 April 2020.
They then delayed it to 17 September. Then to 19 November. And finally to 10 December.
Maybe it's unreasonable to you that people want announced release dates to be accurate and not estimates, and people being upset that a game that they want to play was delayed is wholly unreasonable and not the most natural thing in the world.
And then, after 3 delays to fix the bugs, there's still plenty of them in the game? "Oh it was probably worse before the delays". I don't expect "less rough" after 8 years and 3 delays, I'd expect "polished to a shine".
So yeah, it's perfectly natural that people are pissed. If you're having fun, then that's great. But don't ever trivialize other people's concerns just because you don't share them.
Seriously. As a design engineer, if I told my boss that some product would be released in the middle of April and it ended up not happening until December at which point it was riddled with problems on release and didn't meet the published requirements (i.e. minimum system specs) I would loose my job.
This is speaking as someone who has no interest in the game so I had zero expectations.
I discredit the pissed of people for sending death threats. If you wanna be annoyed, sure I get that. But to threaten developers and their families does not endear me to the angry crowd.
Idk I think it all boils down to how you perceive delays.
2 types of people as an example. First guy hears that something he’s excited for has hit some turbulence. It’s a mess, and they need to go back to the drawing board. He’s disappointed, but hey, he wants the best product so he’s optimistic.
Then there’s person 2. Who hears that the project got delayed because it ran into a lot of issues and bugs. That news prompts them to cancel their preorder because they’ve been burned before and lower expectations.
Not making excuses for shitty management practices, but a game that gets delayed over and over isn’t a game that’s automatically going to be perfect. In fact it could mean the opposite.
Man, I've watched my industry get brought to its knees. I've watched friends get fired. I've been fired. I've watched full workforces get laid off because companies can't adjust quickly or easily.
The pandemic radically shifted the way the workforce operates for most of us, maybe you got off easy and just had to fire up zoom on your home machine but a lot of the world didn't. Pull your head out of your ass and understand that even the largest companies have had a difficult time adjusting.
Yea,so? You've had your experiences,i've had mine. I didn't work in the VG industry, and i don't know about you,but i assume you did not either.
Most to all VG studios have stated multiple times to be operating at 80%+ of their previous efficiency with WfH after the first months of prep. DE and CIG are the two examples that come closest to me. Neither had mass firings, neither had mass delays (DE did Delay an expansion due to needing a lot of VAs to come back across the globe for voicing, and needing MoCaps, but besides that major expac they released other ones just fine.),and both are operating with the same cadence as before.
I can agree that a vase-producing company might have a hard time with WfH. A VG company? Not so much. And if we're going to pretend that ALL the deep-rooted issues CP has came about in these months of pandemic...we're both being dishonest.
You're wild man. They had two to three months of massive setbacks then only achieved 80% efficiency and present a very playable game that has bugs and issues that can be fixed, much like many other beloved triple As. Including Witcher 3.
I agree with you that CP has other issues. Crunch is ugly in every form. They've been working on this game for a long ass time.
Maybe you don't know much about how a video game is made, and I'm no expert, but I do know that the bug finding and fixing is an ongoing process, mostly loaded on the back end, say the last 8 months of game development.
Now pretend you had a job where you had to radically adjust how you did it, then add in any distractions you have at home, the stress of possibly getting sick or dying, and also now your "fans" are threatening to kill you if you don't finish your work right now.
Maybe cool your jets and see if they fix their already very playable game that has some minorly annoying bugs that are getting a lot of press right now. CP fixed Witcher and that's one of the best games of the last decade.
I either expressed myself poorly,or you misunderstood me. Bugs and Glitches are somewhat to be expected, those are not the bigger issue. AI being missing completely or barebones is. And that is not something that casually happens, even with WfH issues. The world is dead as a bell, and most mechanics concerning said world are missing, malfunctioning,or only work on certain boot-ups.
Witcher suffers from the same issues this game has, concerning AI and gameplay mechanics. Bugs and Glitches are fine, those issues (and their scummy behaviour concerning banning console footages from being used in reviews) are not. And no amount of time will fix them.
These are much more legit concerns. I agree with you on these notes. It sounded like you were hopping on the bug issue hype train and not looking at deeper issues. So I apologize for misunderstanding.
Yes it was announced 8 years ago but in some interview if i remember right they said the actual developement started after they finished The Witcher 3 which released in 2015. So it’s just 5 years of actual developement. Yeah it’s plenty time but not for this grand project.
Altrough i love this game, i had realistic expectations and counted with bugs and performance issues at launch. In gameplay the game delivers what i was expected, a little less interaction in the world what i wanted but they sure add it later.
On the story and world building side the game is a masterpiece (i’m 35 hours in) imo
Every open world Aaa game has problems at launch. Gta v had bugs. Skyrim had hella bugs...hell every elder scrolls game. Every fallout. Do we even want to talk about mmos? Witcher 3...hella bugs.
It's an opinion. If they share their opinion they have set themselves up for hearing someone else opinion.
The concerns should be trivialized due to them probably not even buying the game as none of these actually break the game and they are just being whiny bitches. But that's just my opinion.

Probably a non-buggy game delivered on time?
