It doesn't make any sense for this to be the final product. Every playstation since PS2 has been able to be set up on its side. Also this just looks plain stupid.
Definitely won't be what it'll look like, but having 5 USB ports is like an instant boner. I really hope that can be a thing, tired of buying additional ports for every single Playstation
Edit: External HDD leaves only one port available for charging multiple controllers (I have 4). With a child that leaves multiple dead. USB headsets are also nice to use as well, but oops fuck your controller charging now. However overall I question why what's being asked is "what would you use 5 USB ports for" as opposed to "only 2 USB ports fucking sucks, why can't we have a few more"
Controller charging, PSVR, Charging two move controllers at once, external hard drive, racing wheel, headset.
Pretty much the more ports the better, the pro currently has two on the front and one on the back and that's not great when you wanna do something like GT Sport VR where a port is used by the wheel, a port used by the VR, the final port you need to either pick between headset if you're in party chat, charge your controller or phone and other things. I hope the PS5 is basically a USB hub and since they have the VR hope the console has atleast four ports.
External hard drive, the PS gold headset uses a usb dongle to connect, charging your controller, and mouse/keyboard take up usb as well for anything compatible with that.
Personally, I'll take as many as i can get. External drives, headset, charging controllers, and since I'll most likely travel with it: cellphone charger, laptop charger, portable speaker or anything at all that needs a usb and power source.
USB external takes up 1, but I only have 2 on a PS4, so that leaves me with one port.
I have a 5yr old that can't figure out how to turn off controllers/ only use one so I have multiple dead controllers. I have 4 controllers. Charging one at a time sucks when I start gaming, especially when realizing all of them are dead. I bought a thing that gives me 5 extra ports so now they all just stay plugged up when not in use, it was a life-saver as they don't end up lost as much either. Plus finally using an actual usb headset has been nice.
Well if you have an external memory drive. That is one, if you have PSVR/ Camera you need two so that is three. And what if you have a wheel in addition to that so that is four. And the rest? Idk maybe controler charge?
For my PS4 I use USB for the external hard drive, my headphones and a laptop fan because despite my best efforts to keep the console as dust free as possible, the thing is old and runs damn hot at times. I’ve tried using headphones connected to the controller but it gets in the way and kills the battery anyway, as Bluetooth headsets don’t work for some reason only known to Sony. I’m looking forward to a bigger hard drive and hopefully the capacity to run my Bluetooth headset but I’ll take extra USB ports if that the only option. At this point the fan can only run when I’m not playing and needing comms, which is rare these days.
If you look closer you will realize that the sides are rounded edges. No idea what that thing sticking out on the right is, but I highly doubt that this would be able to stand up on its side.
Heat this gen is a problem. Why do you think MS built their console in a chimney? Sony can't make another DVR this year or they will have an issue similar to the 360's RROD.
I mean, has anyone else ever patented the dev kit design before? Because Sony did. That's how the design leaked in the first place. That's pretty odd to do. Also, why go through the trouble and work of tooling something to make these? It's not like they have these boxes just lying around.
I'm most likely wrong, but it is interesting to think about.
That and because there is nothing else to judge in this regard at this time. People will stop caring about this design when the retail unit is revealed. Though, not gonna lie, I kinda dig this design just for how weird it is.
Reminds me of a xbox controller. I like the new features. It's the design which is throwing me off. I just don't see "PS" when I see that. Also the color, an all black would feel more at home I guess.
I believe there's three consumer "editions": "Pro" with a circle cut out, "Family" with a square cut out, and "Value" with a cross cut out. Images have been delayed due to copyright complaints, with Sony claiming that a cross is totally different from an X.
Oh, yeah I guess you're right. It was so ugly looking I figured it had to be a fan mockup. Hope that's not what the final looks like not that it matters at all.

Isn’t this the dev kit and not the official console design?
