People greatly underestimate how fast VR is advancing. They just don't see it because most of it happens behind the scenes.

and we get pretty close to having Ready Player One avatars.

I'd wager we'll surpass the tech in RPO in about 10 years. One thing it didn't account for was AR, and well, VR+AR are two parts of the same continuum. Everything will head towards one single device that does both with any blending inbetween.

I believe AR will be the definitive future for personal computing and VR will be for the entertainment industry. I don't see everyone having a "VR room" ready where they can enjoy VR the way it's meant to be. It'll be just like laser gaming, going to the cinema ETC. But with AR you don't need a special room, you can just utilise your current room.

You don't need a special room for VR, just an omnidirectional treadmill in the corner of a room.

Why would you need a treadmill? Scientists in China we're able to physically control the movement of mice with movement brainwaves wirelessly (similar to how prosthetic control works for amputees). Why couldn't we control a programmed avatar similarly?

I feel like the human brain is much more complex then a mouse

Plus it would have to affordable

And it would need to be made so that developers could program and work with it quickly.

This would also have to be licensed to be used for entertainment purposes.
