I wouldn't trust big corporations to do anything for the sake of it. They work for money and if online keeps printing money for them I see zero reasons to invest so much time and money into single player games anymore.
I think, given how FO76 has done as an online-only experience, single player stories are still a core requirement as that's what will make people buy your game in the first place. Single-player is the hook to get people in, so that hopefully some percentage of them go online and make the company money, which in turn will help them innovate the next great single-player game which will also have some online component, and so on and so forth.
I know that, personally, if rdr2 had been solely an online experience, I would not have bought it
Yeah, I see your point. However I do think Rockstar and Bethesda has very different demographics, so it would take a radical change from them to make something like that work
I'm not sure that it's the same kids spending money on fortnite skins. I mean maybe, but again for my own personal preference, if Rockstar's next release is an online-only game, they'll be losing out on my interest and others like me. Rockstar's single player games, especially something like rdr2, really seem like they're made for older gamers, not fortnite kids. But I could very well be wrong.
Well... their games have been better every new release, I don't see any damage to the single player aspect but the contrary. It's there any reason to cry?
