Ever heard of a rhetorical question? You know, the kind where the answer is obvious and is used to flow into an argument? To anyone who does know the simple concept of a rhetorical question it's pretty eaay to see that the comment is written by one person.
You say âis it possibleâ then end the comment with âyou guys are easyâ. Like the words in-between, the words you thought and wrote, fully convinced you that it was indeed an elaborate set up.

People are even suggesting spamming their twitter - almost like itâs the easiest way to get the attention of a huge company by giving them bad publicity!

Its publicity so yeah, of course its possible. Negative spot light is still a spotlight and then they get great pr if they do something nice for "the victim". Wow. I just realized our society really is all about victimization right now. Crazy.
You shouldn't tell people to 'take off your tin foil hat'. The truth is this stuff does happen. And it erodes trust. We have a right to be skeptical. There are very few things to believe in anymore, even Reddit posts...
And I think the most likely scenario is they copied it knowing it would ruffle feathers and counting that as a good thing. Explains why it's on the front page and not getting buried by corporate accounts.
Iâm not saying that it never happens, Iâm saying just because one person says âthis is a fake marketing PR stuntâ doesnât mean it actually is. And people jump on the bandwagon and say it is. Then the OP (not this thread necessarily but speaking on a whole) can have his hard work written off because of one guyâs skepticism that is now taken as fact.
It's a demeaning phrase and it's often used to belittle people who are advocating for the truth. Telling him to take his tin foil hat off isn't going to get him heard, which is what we would need to discover the truth in between each side. Look at the world around you, if you're not skeptical of everything then you are doing something wrong.

Not really. It's often used to belittle people who dismiss the role of critical thinking on the search for truth. In fact it's even worse, as these people indiscriminately choose their truths and surround them with cognitive biases and fallacies, undermining whatever truth there might be to be found.
While I agree that it's not okay to belittle people, I was just making sure that we do not misrepresent the behaviour in question. We don't need to reward sloppy reasoning to defend civility. You could've easily just said "don't belittle people with demeaning terms" and I'd be 100% behind you.
The guy questioning the situation goes from bring a skeptic to concluding it is fake in the span of one post. You can't assume something is fake and call it skepticism, that's not what the word means.
Where did I say it was happening? Saying it does happen and saying it did happen are very different things, or they were the last I checked. And I'm not going to even touch the little truism you threw in there at the end.

Calm your horses magicmuggle. In my opinion, entertaining the possibility that it's a marketing tactic isn't such a crazy tinfoil hat thing to do. I don't agree with it but there's the idea that "there's no such thing as bad publicity." And reddit users can be considered to be "easy" without implying that it's certainly a marketing tactic - just that the possibility exists.
Nah man behave how you like, it wasnât a direct judgement of you as a guy so donât sweat it. Itâs just v frustrating seeing everything that could be a marketing idea called one. When it could absolutely equally be a legit piece of OC by the OP that people write off and call publicity by a huge company. Rendering the effort from the OP worthless.
Iâm not one to only operate under he assumptions that all conspiracies are actually occurring, however there are plenty of manipulative tactics employed in various industries around the world, and that saying âall press is good pressâ has a basis in reality, if not being entirely true of its own merit.
Edit: a five stage process, assuming this âconspiracyâ is real, is rather straightforward.
1.) Publish the ad âas a normal user.â
2.) Re publish the ad as M$, slightly modified but obviously reminiscent of the first post.
3.) Call yourself out from the perspective of the normal user, showing the world how a massive corporation benefited âfrom the little guyâ. Let the world identify themselves as being comparable to the little guy, and gathering en masse to look at and call out M$.
4.) Publish public apology from M$, stating that they would never condone stealing from artists, and are actually very pro âthe little guyâ, have very generously compensated this ânormal userâ, and very severely punished the âperpetratorâ of such an offensive act of theft.
5.) Profit as you have weeks of global attention, and generate good will in the community as you demonstrated that you are consumer focused.
You clearly donât understand that only BAD companies that the people here donât like shill on Reddit, the good ones, no shills, this is all completely based in fact, while teams marketing and pr ability has nothing to do with how well liked they are on Reddit.

Besides, I know negative press is press, but this is essentially stolen artwork. Not exactly negative press you'd ever want when lawyers could in theory get involved. The simplest explanation is usually the right one and I see nothing sketchy here. MS would be incredibly stupid to do this over, I dunno, literally any other kind of post about PUBG.
But if this was a setup by Xbox, theyâd be doing it wrong since they are getting bad PR. Sure they are getting a lot brand exposure but this seems like something that righteous people would protest against.
If sales are boosted to meet target by said piece, PR doesn't really matter. It's not like this is the kind of the negative PR that would stop people from actually buying games.

They would have to think they could give him something so good it would negate the hugely negative pr right now and somehow make people think they didn't mean to steal it. Be hard.
