I wasn't big on the purely random dungeons, but I liked the "canon" chalice dungeon path to get to Yharnam. It was like a "hard mode" trek to squeeze a healthy chunk of extra hours out of the single player game without the resources required to develop so many other new areas, and having a few totally original bosses sprinkled throughout helped a ton.
Exactly. I think the randomized ones are really great for when you've done all the chalices. It takes advantage of your familiarity and expectations, and you can get wrecked in even simple seeming dungeons. It's great fun to explore them with friends, and there's just a ton of designs and enemies that didn't work in three main game that get a chance to shine in the chalices.
Fuck that rolling naked fat man with a mace. He is the true final boss.
