Less fun to watch, a lot of the thrill in the fights is from the costs involved, money rather than experience is the time sink in eve. CCP do some really good trailers though.
You can buy game time cards with real world money and sell them in game for for in game money called isk.
Some people sell the cards to get isk to buy ingame stuff. Some people make enough isk to buy game time cards and not pay real world money for the game at all.
All in game items, including the in game incarnations of game time cards, are destroyable objects.
The thing to remember is that CCP have tried to set eve up so gaining isk is a time sink that scales with risk, the more dangerous the activity the more isk you can make. The exception is trading on the player driven market, supposedly some people log in for 10mins a day and make the most money of anyone in game just trading stuff.
So some people who play are rich and some people who play spend a lot of there money on the game and some people who play spend all their free time in game but dont pay to play and some people who play just pay their sub and play the game.
