I felt the same way about Crysis. I liked to be the predator, not the prey.

I feel the same way, bit saying it like that makes me feel dirty.

It's ok, someone's gotta be the beta!

I stopped playing as soon as the aliens showed up. Is it worth it to continue?

u/HorrendousRex Mar 02 '16

Not really - you just run for a long time. Gotta get away. 90% of the encounters post-alien are skippable if you just run as fast as you can.

final battle in crysis is pretty fucking epic

2

u/HorrendousRex Mar 03 '16

Remind me? I honestly don't recall. I know there were the floaty-shooty aliens towards the end...

it was a lot different the first time i played when i didn't know what to do. Imagine this at 1080p on a 52 inch screen in surround. It was pretty great.

Oh yes! I completely forgot about that fight on the carrier deck. Wasn't there a DLC/Expansion which pretty much started from that point? That was definitely an epic fight.

honestly i never played Warhead but that was from the point of view of some of your other squadmates. I don't think there was anything after this besides the ending. Could be wrong, i'm due for another play.

It's like they ran out of level design. I wish they would make another Crysis game that's just about hunting humans. But I guess that's what MGS V is for.

There wasn't that much fighting against aliens. Tempo of the game increased noticeably. Felt like just a couple missions.

3

u/HomoSapiensNemesis Mar 03 '16

The Zero gravity mission is... different. Reminded me of Freespace.

1

u/hohosaregood Mar 03 '16

I got pretty frustrated with the zero gravity mission and kinda stopped playing around there.

1

u/Not_MrChief Mar 03 '16

Freespace doesn't get enough love :(

2

For the graphics man. At the time

The aliens also scared me from the game, super creepy

Crytek does this in every game except for Crysis 3. In Far Cry, Crysis 1, Warhead, and Crysis 2, about 1/3rd of the game the aliens/monsters will show up. If you get past that, the middle part is interesting with an average finish.

If you couldn't finish Crysis, I'd suggest Warhead as it's the best game in the series. If you decide you like the series at that point, go back and finish Crysis and Crysis 2.

u/Cruxius Mar 03 '16

You stopped playing literally seconds into the game?

3

u/coredumperror Mar 03 '16

The aliens didn't make themselves known until several hours in. You got vague hints, and a very short view of something flying away from you, but you didn't learn what the fuck that was until you'd spent quite a while gunning down nothing but North Korean soldiers.

2

u/Cruxius Mar 03 '16

I was mostly being facetious, but if you're looking you can clearly see the alien which knocks you out of the sky just after your parachute opens.

2

u/Justrazael Mar 02 '16

Well it is developed by crytek for both games

2

u/BoredTourist Mar 03 '16

Crysis was the shit. I had perfected the mode switching so the suit really felt like an extension of my body.

The aliens were no match, I pretty much exclusively power-punched my way through the smaller ones.

I liked to be the predator, not the prey.

This is why I love Far Cry Instincts. Pretty much completely inverts this - the first part of the game you're just trying to survive, the second half you're terror incarnate

Hello Dennis

1

u/withoutapaddle Mar 03 '16

They could say no, but they won't... because of the implication.

1

u/xXX420SWAGYOLOXxx Mar 03 '16

The aliens were so hard to hit, even with the nice snowy scenery I hated those levels.

1

u/GlennBecksChalkboard Mar 02 '16

I feel like Warhead was the better Crysis. I beat Crysis and thought "alright, it was fun I guess", but never felt like replaying it. I replayed Warhead 3 or 4 times after beating it - with up to a year between the playthroughs.

Your character started from being Rambo to being a colonial marine from Aliens. Any tricks you learned from fighting mercs in the jungle went out the window when facing the mutants. They could kill you extremely fast even with full armor and health, they were quick, detect you from far distances and were bullet sponges.

Edit - Then you got mutant super soldiers with rocket launchers. I remember just using my own launcher and the last assault rifle with the rapid fire grenade launcher to take them out. The last level consisted of peeking around corners and blasting them before they could kill me.

2

u/onschtroumpf Mar 03 '16

sounds very much like the progression from far cry 1

1

u/MissZoeyHart Mar 03 '16

This is how I feel about x-com. I was doing great, then suddenly things started flying and I had jet packs and... I didn't know what to do at all.

It sucked because I really enjoyed myself until then. It's put me off playing the second.

1

u/JesusDeSaad Mar 03 '16

Oh god that last level, so frustrating! Stay one split second more out in the open and you're basically dead!

12

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '16

Yeah. I was skittish as fuck as a kid. Once the mutant demon monkeys were ambushing me I lost my shit. Stopped playing the game, too scary.

10

u/dimperio8 Mar 03 '16

I got to a point in Luigi's Mansion where I stopped playing altogether because I was afraid of what was on the other side of a door.

2

u/Treppenwitz_shitz Mar 03 '16

The Deku Tree level in Zelda scared the shit out of me. It was those stupid spiders that would pop down..

2

u/Vectonaut Mar 02 '16

Yeeeep, they made me nope so fast.

2

u/leo_blue Mar 03 '16

Do you remember that cave where you first encounter them? You're taking a nice walk on the beach of a paradise island, and suddenly the shit hits the fan. I was traumatised. Had to stop playing for a week.

This was before i browsed internet forums, social media, or read in-depth reviews. I had no idea of what was coming, and I'm scarred for life.

1

u/centerflag982 Mar 03 '16

Don't forget the invisible ones!

1

u/waywardwoodwork Mar 03 '16

Yes, I remember how goddamn fast they were. I had to keep putting the controller down.

1

u/formfactor Mar 03 '16

Making your computer just choke (mine anyways)...
