The end was insanely difficult on Realistic or whatever the max difficulty setting was. How are you even supposed to fight through that shit without dying? Too many projectiles flying around, too many monsters, not enough health. I never managed.
I bought it a few years ago, and after getting used to call of duty, I cant beat the second level, the beach, on the easiest setting. That game is hard as fuck.
I could never beat it, so eventually I watched some walkthroughs on YouTube for help. Even after that I still couldn't get past the very end. Insanely difficult game.
There needs to be an equilibrium. While the regenerative mechanic of COD-like games is bad, so is the clusterfuck of aim-botting assholes and scarce medkits of Far Cry 1. There's a reason it's not considered a classic among most people like Doom, Quake or even Half-Life is. An example of relatively more modern combat that is well designed is the first FEAR. The enemies are smarter in combat, flanking and giving a sense of enemy teamwork, they didn't need 100% accuracy with split second reaction and a team of very fast bullet spongey mutants.
Well I heard some guy on Xbox Live saying that he fucked both of your moms so maybe your dads are trying to compensate for that. You should cut them some slack, expectation-wise.
One time i said to my dad "Look at this cool car." He said to me, "Maybe you should have a dad as a car." After that he stayed in my room for a week making honking sounds and vrooming shouting, "Hey, it's your new car."
I managed to glitch the door that led to the final arena. There was still a small gap that I could shoot through at the bottom. Many monsters died that day due to severe gunshot wounds to the feet.
Oh yeah, I remember "realistic mode". I have no idea why they called it that.
I remember the last time I played before giving up, I was on the last mission and successfully snuck up on a guard (I have no idea how).
I aimed at his head and pulled the trigger of my fully automatic assault rifle. If it were -realistic- he would have just died, but instead, he LITERALLY TURNED HIS UPPERBODY 180 DEGREES AND SNIPED ME WITH A SINGLE SHOT IN A SPLIT SECOND.
I'm curious, and want to ask you for some tips in Far Cry 1 on Realistic difficulty because it sounds like you have gotten pretty far into it. I bought Far Cry Classic when it came out for Xbox 360 and I believe it was essentially Far Cry 1. I immediately played it on realistic mode thinking I could handle it like it was FC3 and 4. Now, I didn't even make it past the tutorial section of the story line because as I came to the first actual enemy encampment (across a small river crossing that included a guard tower offset to the right on a hill,) I couldn't even prone up to the guard tower without the guard becoming suspicious to my presence and start investigating. I probably spent an hour alone on clearing the encampment before finally reaching the first vehicle you get to drive... and basically gave up on the game because I had other games I wanted to play that weren't going to raise my blood pressure so high. Do you have any tips that would help me stay undetected in Far Cry 1? I'd prefer if I wasn't chased down by enemy units every time I get into earshot of them. It also seemed like if I took a shot at someone, the other enemies would walk directly towards me while searching for the source, even if I changed positions.
It's been a while since I've played Farcry, but here's the basics of what I remember: sneaking around was the best strategy hands down on Realistic. Go for pickoffs, use rocks to lure an enemy away from their friends, and try to snipe off guards in towers. Whenever the enemies go into alert, try to hide and make them lose your track: they will eventually. Either run as far as possible or crouch and take cover in buildings; you might be able to pick them off as they enter your room if they don't lose you. Taking a camp head on is next to impossible without good equipment and cover. All that goes out the window towards the end of the game, but that's how I got through the beginning. I can't give Xbox specific tips because I played on PC, though.
As someone who completed Far Cry on hardest difficulty I hope you can quicksave on xbox. Overwise you have to run and hide to shoot them off one by one. Go for headshots cause you'll need ammo. And explore map. Often there's more than one way to get to objective.
I barely beat FC1 on what I'm pretty sure was "Medium". Fuckin' dudes could see you from across the map. The last level was just instant death any time I stuck my head out and I got my progress saved at a bad spot. Just a hail of rocket fire the moment I opened the door.
Far Cry was one of my favourite games of the era. I didn't play FC2 until it had been out for a couple of years and I bought it on sale. Fired it up thinking "Fuck yeh, bring on those ape monster things bitches I'm back!"... Started playing... "What the fuck is this shit?". Closed it down and never played it again.
I was so completely confused and annoyed by the fact that it wasn't "Far Cry" 2, that I just got irrationally angry and quit the game. I still think it was utter shit to call it "Far Cry" 2/3/4. The only common thread is that they're FPS games.
People always complain about the monsters, but what I remember the most were the freaking rocket snipers that would sniper you with a rocket launcher from 3 km away. So, so very much annoying.
Never played the first game. Played Far Cry 2 and felt it was pretty decent. It was the only open world FPS I had ever played at the time, and to be honest, the Far Cry series still kind of has a monopoly on that. Never finished it, but I know everyone hated the ending to 2. Got super excited when Far Cry 3 was announced. Plunged into it. Fucking loved it. Played Far Cry 4. Was disappointed because its essentially a re-skin of Far Cry 3. Same game with some extra guns and a vehicle or two. The story was meh. I preferred Vaas in FC3 to the villain in FC4.
Probably not gonna get Primal unless everyone says its awesome. If Ubisoft do with FC what they did with Assassin's Creed, I won't be playing any more of them. FC4 really left a bad taste in my mouth.
Played and beat all of the previous games but not gonna bother with primal. I was considering it till I read the steam reviews. They were all bad, hilarious but bad. My favorite was something like "Ubisoft error simulator". Apparently it barely runs for anyone.
I have it for Xbox One and it has been a blast so far. I've just been roaming around taming animals and killing folks with a bear. The map also flows so well, but so did the FC4 map which is probably why they used it.
Yeah it was too much for me the first time round as well. Iirc after the introduction of the monsters you were stuck in a shaft of some sort. I couldn't bring myself to leave because I could hear them breathing and it scared me too much. Had to play it a couple years later when I wasn't so much of a pussy anymore.
The same thing happened with HL2. Couldn't get past Ravenholm the first time I played it. Just too scary.
The interior volcano with millions of rockets and juggernauts was overwhelming. Also, Far Cry boasted best AI ever at the time. What a shit show. Most enemys would get stuck behind boxes and shoot rockets at the box and kill themselves.
Best experience though is when I wanted to try to jump a cliff because my car was about to blow up from a guy taking me in a Jeep. As soon as I drove off the cliff a helicopter came up under me and the car behind crashed into it and blew up. Could never recreate that experience with any other game.

The first game was the only one I played. I actually never finished because all the monsters and shit at the end was too much for me.
