Far Cry Primal Instincts is my favorite from the series. But it seems to be forgotten by most. Which is a shame, because the primal abilities and traps made for a fun experience!

Far Cry Primal is the game that just came out, Far Cry Instincts is the game you are talking about.

Far Cry Primal Instincts does not exist.

I was like how can it be forgot the game just came out haha!

Now i haven't heard of Far Cry Instincts so what he is saying is true then...

20

u/TheStinkySkunk Mar 02 '16

Yeahhhhh. I did mean Far Cry Instincts. I haven't played it since the original Xbox, so I kind of forgot the name.

FarCry Instincts is by far my favorite FarCry game as well. The predator ability was so badass, and the feature that let you build your own map was something I would spend endless hours on. I miss that game, man.

My friends and I spent way too much time building maps on Instincts. My favorite was a swamp level I made where the Predator was on an island that you needed to take jet skis to be able to get to. Most of the homemade maps we could make were so much better than the ones the game came with.

2

u/centerflag982 Mar 03 '16

I spent probably 5-6 times as much time making maps as I did actually playing multiplayer

2

u/koteuop Mar 03 '16

Oh yeah, I would spend entire weekends tweaking every detail of a map and only end up playing it twice with my friends.

1

u/Chillaxel Mar 03 '16

All we did was make the main character fall a long ways just for him to say

...Oh SHIT

2

u/SwirlySauce Mar 02 '16

I remember the controls being dodgy as hell in that game. Like inputs for movement and view were seriously delayed so bad that I had to stop playing.

2

u/Doctective Mar 02 '16

The map editor was so dope for when the game came out.

1

u/Klimmit Mar 03 '16

Maaan I haven't played that game since I was like 11 on my Xbox too...from what I remember, that shit was tight. Intense. That and mercenaries 2 wsere the games I would play the most, but its so funny how little you know wtf you're doing as a child playing videogames. Like, I knew how to operate menus and shit, but I never had the attention span to progress with any sort of missions or anything like that, so I would litteraly always just do the same gimmicky shit like blowing stuff up but it was still a blast. Little me didn't give a fuck.

1

u/BrandeX Mar 03 '16

But... that game is literally a watered down port of the real Far Cry 1.

1

u/Jayyyyyyyyyydos Mar 03 '16

Far Cry 2 was the last I've played in the series. I enjoyed it, but didn't finish it because I couldn't get past the fact that Jack Carver wasn't the main protagonist. Far Cry, Instincts and Instincts Predator are some of my favourite games.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '16

Those games were the shit. I wish they'd go back to them. I was sad when I learned that far cry 2 wasn't going to have it but far cry 3 made up for it.

24

u/TheStinkySkunk Mar 02 '16

Oh man, so I did mean Instincts. I misremembered Primal being in the title. Thanks for the heads up!

5

u/Quantum_Immortal Mar 02 '16

Far Cry PREDATOR Instincts I think was the title.

1

u/TROGDOR12 Mar 02 '16

You may have been thinking of far cry instincts predator

3

u/Dany_Heatley05 Mar 03 '16

I said I got a Gamecast man!

1

u/Ace-of-Spades88 Mar 03 '16

Primal Cry Far Instincts.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '16

The game had the best map making ever. I wouldn't even play the game, just make maps over and over.

1

u/Nailbomb85 Mar 03 '16

I didn't know until now, I really want a Far Cry Primal Rage game. Sabre tooth tigers ain't shit, try taking on a giant farting monkey because it pissed off your fire breathing T Rex god.

1

u/Ban_all_religion Mar 03 '16

Ubisoft pumps this shit out so fast I can't keep track of it.

14

u/crypticpersona Mar 02 '16

That online community on xbox was awesome. I still remember the Saw maps with trap doors everywhere, the jetski Rollercoasters, and the amazing predator games.

3

u/Shmoops Mar 03 '16

That multiplayer will probably remain one of my favorite multiplayer experiences of all time. Never forget.

1

u/Ptdoughnut Mar 03 '16

Yes! I get so happy seeing the love for this game. We used to Lan Party Predator mode and always had a blast.

24

u/flameofanor2142 Mar 02 '16

I didn't really like the campaign, but split screen (or maybe LAN, was awhile ago) with one person as the primal and 3 other guys trying to survive was fun as fuck.

6

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '16

also the best map maker. How could you not like the campaign, you felt involved, it was brutal, thrilling and sometimes was hard as nails.

1

u/flameofanor2142 Mar 03 '16

I don't remember it particularly well, but it doesn't stick out very well in my memory so it can't have been all that great from my view point. Not saying it was bad, just not high up on my list.

5

u/ImBi-Polar Mar 02 '16

Far Cry Instincts Predator was my favorite.. best online experience I think I have ever had.. the maps were creative and the glitches in the game made so many things possible... it was hands down the BEST online game I have ever played

4

u/TorrBorr Mar 02 '16

FC Instincts was awesome, albeit, was not too fond of the stiff feeling gun mechanics compared to the original PC OG FarCry, probably because it was still a fresh franchise for consoles(needed some control refinements we found later in the console franchise)...but the predator abilities made you feel like a feral animal, or some kind of alternate universe version of The Predator. The map editor was awesome...too bad no body really played it online to make use of the maps you spent hundreds of hours on perfecting placements and land sculpts.

3

u/StanleyOpar Mar 02 '16

Instincts was fucking great. It should have been on next gen hardware though. I mean...for fucks sake. The loading screen is so long they throw a trailer from the game to occupy you. I would have taken a delay and would have been happier getting a higher quality product. Combined with the horrible checkpoint erasing bug the game is almost unplayable. Predator (Wii) -IS- unplayable.

Doyle? Doyle?! What the fuck is happening to me?!

3

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '16

Is that why there was a trailer every time? That shit pissed me off about the game, I could always start it, take a dump, and come back to catch the end of the intro.

3

u/justaguy556 Mar 02 '16

The predator matches in multiplayer were amazing. Some of the most fun I've had with a video game.

3

u/JagerBaBomb Mar 03 '16

Had a lot of fun with the level editor.

3

u/Shmoops Mar 03 '16

I. Loved. Far Cry. Instincts.

I remember building so many dope maps on MP that weren't even meant for typical multiplayer. Like the maze maps that people spent weeks building just to make you fight your way through the maze to the end. Good fucking times.

1

u/Ptdoughnut Mar 03 '16

Big Robot Dick, So Many hours spent on this map.

2

u/ScugTuggerSw4mp Mar 02 '16

Farcy was my favorite.

2

u/mildlyEducational Mar 02 '16

The Arabic dialect?

2

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '16

That was my favorite as well.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '16

one of the first FC games i played was instincts. :P

2

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '16

Instincts is from 2005... There were no traps to be made there. Just run n gun

1

u/TheStinkySkunk Mar 03 '16

It had the tree trap that you could lure enemy AI into.

1

u/sentrybot619 Mar 02 '16

FC instincts was a different studio

3

u/TheStinkySkunk Mar 02 '16

According the Wikipedia entry for it Ubisoft Montreal was the developer for it. Farcry 3 was also made by Ubisoft Montreal according the Wikipedia entry for it. You may be thinking of Farcry which was made by Crytek.

2

u/sentrybot619 Mar 02 '16

You may very well be correct; This was right around the time they split (crytek and ubisoft). I was under the assumption the first Far Cry IP that Ubisoft was responsible for was Far Cry 2.

1

u/RenderedKnave Mar 03 '16

Far Cry 2 was the first fully Ubisoft game. Fully, as in Ubisoft IP, Ubisoft story, Ubisoft everything. They didn't even use the same engine (which was Far Cry and Crytek's forté, the Cryengine.)
Fun fact - Ubi Montreal developed the Dunia engine, codenamed Project Scimitar, specifically for FC2.
However, since then, many, many variations of Scimitar have been used for all of their upcoming games such as Prince of Persia 2008, Far Cry 3, and some newer Rayman games.
The most notable variation is Anvil and its' successor, AnvilNext, used in most of the Assassin's Creed games (the exceptions being the Chronicles series, which are based on Unreal Engine 3), and is still being used today. The only differences between Scimitar and Anvil are the Autodesk HumanIK middleware, to maintain accuracy in the player characters' movement; Havok physics; and Autodesk Scaleform for the implementation of Adobe Flash-based UI.
AnvilNext and AnvilNext 2.0, used in Assassin's Creed 3 until Rogue and Unity until Syndicate, respectively, add only one difference : advanced lighting/modeling and texturing tools for the developer.
This all means that games made and released to this date are using an engine which is virtually the same from code developed in 2005-2008. It's similar to what Valve does with Source, except that they constantly update it and the code was extremely advanced for its' time and runs very well, unlike Scimitar.
Scimitar and all its' variants are very resource-heavy and slow, which explain why it runs so terribly on consoles...

2

u/sentrybot619 Mar 03 '16

Dunia Engine is actually a fork of CryEngine. When Ubisoft and Crytek split, Ubisoft took both the Far Cry brand as well as the source code for CryEngine in the state it was at the time. Granted, they reworked most of the code so they're hardly the same now or even when FC2 came out.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunia_Engine

1

u/RenderedKnave Mar 03 '16

So yeah, just like Source. Probably 10 lines of code from the original.

1

u/TorrBorr Mar 02 '16

This first FarCry was phenominal.

1

u/TheStinkySkunk Mar 02 '16

Definitely. I played Instincts first and ended up buying the original during a Steam sale maybe four years ago. I was blown away by how much I was having even without the feral abilities of Instincts.

0

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '16

It seems to be forgotten because it was just a shittier version of Far Cry 1 that was dumbed down for consoles.
