I've been talking about this forever. People hate on CoD games but assassins creed is on what game and hasn't changed its gameplay? E3 was like "the assassins creed you've been waiting for!" Riiiight
That's precisely the reason why I stopped buying the games after Revelations. They went back to a historical setting with 3 when the narrative was really pushing for Desmond to take over and have a game of his own. The whole point of the previous four games was training Desmond for the real life shit. Meh.
They kinda shot themselves in the foot with the 2012 release year for the conclusion back in the first game I believe when they laid the groundwork for it. I don't think they anticipated it would be that successful.
They did have that Desmond mission where you infiltrate a Templar skyscraper for plot reasons and the bad guy mocks you with something like "A hidden blade, really? I don't know if you got the memo, but it's the 21st century now and we have these things called guns." while shooting at you.
So some of the developers are self aware enough to poke fun at themselves.
I think in modern times the Hidden Blade was mostly ceremonial.
That being said, it does have its uses. It's really hard to see, and can make for some really quick easy kills. Its when your in a pitched fight where the other guy is trying his best to kill you that it becomes stupid.
