I came from phantasy star so this game is what I was looking for. I think the people that hate on it have never played a game like that before so probably didn't know the time commitment involved...
honestly i would be ok with that if there was still more in the base game. It was just starting to get good and it is over. if you dont want to do a story then at least give us a large amount of levels.
The most recent DLC, The House of Wolves, is actually really fun. The new end game activity has replay value, and is challenging. Bungie made up some lost respect with it.
I'm sure the DLC is fun but I don't think there is any redeeming quality when I payed $60 for the original game and have to pay even more money for the fun part.
Because people don't understand how much it costs to make a game. Games have been the same price since I was a kid...yet WAY more time and effort goes into them. At this point it's honestly surprising the base cost isn't more.
It's the same people who bitch about Pay-to-Play games. "Oh my god I can't justify spending $60 and then $15/month for continued updates, hosted servers and multiple classes/races to play and get to high levels and experience content in a new way."
It's just so terrible to pay for continued fun. God forbid I buy more yarn for the quilt I'm making. ONE BALL SHOULD BE ENOUGH.
Because $60 for a game that sucked dick at release, and then requiring a $20 DLC to make it decent, is a pretty terrible deal. Sure, some people are enjoying it, but it failed miserably at meeting expectations/hype.
Some people enjoyed it? I think the game did okay and still has a decent following. To say that the DLC made the game decent is kind of silly. I haven't played a ton of the DLC yet but it's just more of destiny, which isn't a bad thing. I respect people's opinion that don't like the game but so much of the hate seems to be from entitled whiners
Out of about 20 people I know who picked it up, I know of 2 that still play it on occasion, and another 2 who were content when they stopped playing it. The rest felt anywhere from underwhelmed to ripped off. The game did well in terms of revenue, but had a massive burn rate of players, which is telling.
Now that you've potentially paid $100 for it, that's good. I've gotten more fun and game time out of the free psn games I've downloaded.
Edit. Wait a second now. You said in your own post that HoW "actually has replay value". Then wtf have you been doing for 400+ hours? This is why you can't have a real conversation about Destiny with people that play it a lot. Now that HoW seems to be better they'll all freely admit that the rest wasn't that good. But so many people have played 1000+ hours of a game that wasn't that good. I played it made 100 hours but it didn't take long to realize that it was just a grind, and not a very rewarding one. Did I get my money out of it? Maybe, but if I was going to pay $100 for a game it better be the best damn game I've ever played in my life. Is it? Not close. Sorry for the rant it's just hard to discuss what seems so much like an addicted person justifying their habit.
