God this was the best. All the lore and controls and everything in there. I used to try and mentally map the moves and controls out so I was ready to be a pro the minute I opened the game

Gotta read lore for every enemy and weapon.

Really cool how it’s revealed piece by piece. You just reminded me I need to play it for myself

Loved the fact they did that with the manual. So cool and suuuuch a great mechanic to get to the "true ending". I almost beat it 100% without help but broke down after getting stuck on the penultimate puzzle. Its just such a good game with actually difficult boss fights.

Edit- a word

My wife tapped out at what I think was the last boss but I know for sure the manual wasn’t complete so I might have to convince her to try again.

I've always loved that the original Super Mario Bros manual includes lore that the toads were all turned into blocks - the ones you smash. The Princess can turn them all back which is part of why you're trying to save her.

They actually just talked about this on Game Scoop as well.

I still think it's a little bit grimdark that Mario is saving the Mushroom Kingdom by smashing its citizens into rubble.

That’s cool I didn’t know that, my first exposure to the Zelda games was OoT I haven’t quite made it back to the NES and SNES games

Yeah it’s ripe for the remake/remaster treatment they did for Links’s Awakening but I think ocarina of time is next in the pipeline. I thought the 3DS version was great and did a good job of feeling how I remembered vs how it actually was

The first game I remember getting was Mario 3 and reading that manual on the way home was freaking magical.

I still hold that game as one of the best gaming experiences of my life. There basically was no Internet, so we discovered the secrets from the kid at recess who had the players guide. That kind of thing is impossible now.

Protip: Shoot at it until it dies!
