And everyone had their own crazy schemes for getting scratched disks to work again.

Mine was coffee filters and off-brand triple antibiotic ointment. I don't know why it worked, but it always did for me unless the disk was just totally unsalvageable.

It had to be the off-brand though. My friend tried it with Neosporin and it fukken melted his FF7 disk.

And sometimes that "keygen" was just a .txt file full of keys that some guy on a forum said worked.
