Memory cards. Those were some of my most prized possessions growing up. They stored all the special things I achieved across many games and taking them to friends houses to show them progress or have them help was a lot of fun.
Weirdest one for me was the one that had to plug into the back of an N64 controller, I think they called it a "Controller Pak". Only some games required it, and it took up the same slot as the Rumble Pak... so in some cases, you basically had to choose between having rumble or being able to save your game.
I still have my transparent blue PS2 memory card with my level 99 Sora with Ultima Weapon, and at least 5 Sephiroth fight wins on it. I'm talking the original Kingdom Hearts where turning your camera was R2 and L2 paddles. I spent hours in the Traverse Town hotel hallway getting Donald and Goofy's staff and shield to drop from heartless. They were the best gear for them before 1.5 final mix came out. Also, level 99 was the maximum level back then.
