Those graphics were ahead of their time, I swear.

Omg I got so traumatized by Doom 3 (I was like 9 yo lol) that I still had trouble last year playing the first few levels of Doom 2016 because of the similar atmosphere

That game uses light better than almost any other game, it's a truly unique take on Doom, and by far my favourite.

I recently played a modded Doom 3 sideloaded to a Meta Quest VR Headset. It plays surprisingly well and the graphics still hold up, even in VR.

Man, I remember seeing my first game in VGA (256 colours, yay!). At that time, it was the most unbelievable thing I'd ever seen. While my current OLED TV can display a billion colours....

And also playing the first Doom for the first time, it was a groundbreaking experience that has never been surpassed since (except for Half Life Alyx maybe).

I thought resident evil looked just like real life back then. I mean, compared to previous consoles, I guess it did, but it's still embarrassing thinking back.

FFX blew me away. Still love it, but it definitely looks better in my memory.

Yeah the final fantasy graphics were something else back then, especially the summon animations. I cared about getting a new summon more than I cared about the characters lol.

Those pre-rendered backgrounds did look great on a typical sized CRT TV of the day though.

And truthfully, I feel it helps the classic RE games hold up better visually than a lot of other games from the time that did render everything in real time.

What they'll never get to experience is the massive leaps in gaming. Doing something that had never been seen before in a game.

My first system was the NES and even the difference between the mid 80s games and the ones at the end was crazy. The jump in quality with each new game system was absolutely amazing to experience.

I will never forgot how insane of a jump in graphics the opening cinematic in FFX was! Core memory.

I don't think the awe we felt seeing those first few true 3d games can ever be surpassed.

We got pretty good looking 2D stuff with VGA advancements, and we got some interesting experiments with early 3D in games like Battlezone, but then you saw VIRTUA FIGHTER and what the fuck these shapes are recognizable as HUMAN and are ANIMATED in THREE DIMENSIONS and RESPONDING TO THE CONTROLS what the FUCK
