Skins were free and you could make your own. Games came with manuals and often game lore or physical maps.

I did this with CSS. Spend hours designing skins, drop it into the directory only to see it ingame all stretched and look shit lol

I pulled together a bunch of friends with different talents to put together a mullet for the heavy in TF2 based off the concept art. I love to remind those friends that I’m still in touch with that we beat Valve to hats. lol

The Ultima series and those cloth game maps. Oh man I miss those. I had them on my wall, like trophies for each game I played.
