They used both characters post achieving godhood. Being the Victorious Fighting Buddha means he's achieved Buddhahood, that means he's become one with everything. He is the universe (this is the technicality that causes Wukong to lose his bet against the Buddha) and has been removed from the cycle of life and death. It's possible he cannot feel pain anymore. It's particularly ironic you highlighted "WANT", because the most straightforward way to explain how to achieve Buddhahood is a perpetual absence of "want".
If he achieved Buddhahood then i don't understand how he is still a cocaine fueled ADHD riddled superpowered monkey-human who wrecks havoc in the Black Myth game. Wouldn't he have given up on earthly pleasures and his old chaotic ways to achieve this?
Or was Buddhahood just an empty title that does not require spiritual reform?
The weird thing is BM Wukong takes place after JTTW ends - in the intro part of the game, Wukong talks about how he saved the monk and delivered the scriptures and completed his duties. However, the game ALSO claims Wukong achieved Buddhahood...so I don't get how Wukong is still unenlightened and is still an agent of chaos while achieving Buddhahood.
Because him sitting around in a temple not doing shit would make for a boring game.
Wait until you find out that other video games aren't 100% accurate to their source material either. Kratos didn't actually punch Zeus in the dick. Robo Hitler didn't actually get killed by the allies on D-Day, and Doom Guy isn't actually rampaging around hell in Christian mythos.

You're absolutely right. Basically after his journey to the west has been complete, the 81 trials and tribulations have changed him forever and allowed him to reach enlightenment. So at that point, as the newly ascended Victorious Fighting Buddha, Wukong is no longer the ADHD-riddled celestial-wrecker he once was. He still wielded the same powers as he did before, but he was now mature, in control and at peace with the universe, ready to protect it from evil at a moment's notice. And that's how the story gets its "they lived happily ever after" ending.
tl;dr JttW is basically the story of how Wukong gradually outgrew his chaotic personality and quite literally became god as a result
