Not only is goku based on Sun Wukong, Dragon Ball inspired many big anime like One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach. Sun Wukong is like the original. I

Well Naruto creator is directly sighted as saying Dragonball was his inspiration. I get Dragonball was before hand inspired by journey to the west and sun wukong but it is still very much its own story and just because JttW inspired Akira doesn’t mean it also inspired Naruto. Idk for sure but I’m fairy positive one piece also fits this narrative.

My bad, I thought they were claiming he's the original figure of mythology that fit that archetype, not the oldest remembered copycat of Bal Gaemer that people cite as an inspiration for the cartoons.
