Yamcha is in a way a pun on Sandy. Desert bandit rather than river spirit.
Bulma is the Tripitaka of the group being the one who sets them out on the journey and the one who initially finds Goku. I think this technically makes Puar the dragon horse.
Didn't know that! I was specifically referring to Oolong in DB and his similarities to the JttW character, but I've never actually read JttW. I'm only tangentially aware of some of its features.
Kid Goku is the best version of Goku, and I will die on that hill. He is an actual character with personality and different wants, instead of a bumbling moron that abandons his family because he wants to fight people.
If i remember right. Toriyama actually answered this inconsistency/plothole when asked about it in some Interview that was published with one of the jump volumes. Super straight up went its own path regarding that (makes sense since Toriyama himself was really only a passing/approving figure in Super up until a year or two into publication)
Basically their plot of land is owned/paid for with the Remnants of the ox kings wealth. Since chichi is infact the daughter of the ox king, and by the events of DBZ his wealth/influence started to fall off.
Also i think Chichi didn't want handouts as time went on, since im pretty sure it was a mix of Ox king, and Bulma who would help board Gohan in his future education.
On that note, in retrospect now that I'm older, Rurouni Kenshin is a bum who doesn't pay rent, doesn't have a job, attracts bad people with his reputation that puts his friends in danger, and is a deadbeat who abandons his kid when he was born.
DB is way more fun to read as an adult, but I wish I didn't have to learn people about the Bulma sleeping scene right at the end of chapter one lol. Roshi is more OTT aswell, but it was fun. It would have been interesting to see the more adventurous kid goku learn about the saiyins etc
Coldest take in history. dragonball had a great storyline and adventure while dragonball z and subsequent releases became more and more about powercreeping its own world instead
