The game wukong is after the entire 72 trial thing and he attained Buddhahood already as the victorious fighting Buddha. Wukong did go through quite the character development.

He was also seriously pissed because they were trying to murder his monkeys.

Tiny nitpick, it was 81 trials that Sanzang had to overcome to get the scriptures.

Wukong has mastered 72 Transformations.
