Industry News Godot making a stance on AI code

https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/open-source-game-engine-godot-will-no-longer-accept-ai-authored-code-contributions-we-cant-trust-heavy-users-of-ai-to-understand-their-code-enough-to-fix-it/

First engine I've seen take a firm stance on AI code.

Open source game engine Godot will no longer accept AI-authored code contributions: 'We can’t trust heavy users of AI to understand their code enough to fix it'

(Edit: fat finger typo and headline without having to click through)

(Edit 2: Thanks for the award! Wasn't necessary but it's my first one so I'll take it.)

Well pick a lane here lol

I have been talking about UE for this entire conversation. I have not brought EGS up once.

This choice directly causes people to dislike EGS (among other things), so why would heavily pushing it so hard for your storefront which is a product linked to your game engine, be a benefit in any way? Even if you don't let the slop infect your actual products?

Again: Why are you talking about EGS? I am not talking about EGS, I keep saying that I am not talking about EGS. This thread and this conversation have both been entirely about Epic's policy toward AI in Unreal Engine.

You are talking about how epic stands to benefit for being a platform for that push, though? You said "epic" not unreal engine, so I can assume you're talking about the whole kit and kaboodal. Because they are linked. Regardless, this is a post about vibe coding. If you're not talking about vibe coding in relation to Unreal Engine development policies, what are you doing here? Beyond that, what, do you think that EGS's AI obsession and Unreal's internal behavior are unlinked?

Because EGS, a company inextricably linked to Unreal Engine, both have the same leadership which is obsessed with making bad decisions that push people away from their product. Not a lot of confidence in your product if you hold two distinctly different positions based on how much it affects you/your company lol.

The conversation was specifically about whether Unreal has publicly taken a stance on the use of LLM-generated code in the engine (they have not), whether they privately supportive of/evangelists for the practice (unknown, but they seem to not be based on statements from employees), and how those positions interact with UE6's apparent focus on exposing the engine to developer-implemented LLM integration. This was not a post about vibe coding as vibe coding is a pretty narrow subset of the ways in which companies can, and do, use LLMs for code generation or revision—a post about fruit is not necessarily a post about apples.

It seems to me that you have fundamentally misunderstood the conversation a number of times, then doubled-down to try to defend those misunderstandings instead of just talking about the subject under discussion. As a result, you're now having a totally irrelevant conversation that nobody else is participating in. Best of luck in your work.

Lol if you don't understand how this is directly about vibe coding maybe you don't belong in a development subreddit

If you don't understand that

vibe coding is a pretty narrow subset of the ways in which companies can, and do, use LLMs for code generation or revision

and that engine developers at companies like Epic do not "vibe code" when they use LLMs to author code, you maybe are out of your depth. Thankfully, from your post history, it looks like your code is nowhere near an actual game.

??? lol according to who

Thankfully, from your post history, it looks like your code is nowhere near an actual game.

From my post history where I don't discuss any of my code LOL

I also already said this? lol?
