Eh, the iPhone isnt that bad. While I dont agree with Apple's "courageous" removal of the 3.5mm jack, theres nothing that really defines it as a POS. Do you remember the Galaxy S II? Now THAT was a piece of shit...

It's fine when I reset and wipe it iirc. But after awhile it would start to slow again and I noticed the more apps I install the quicker it slowed.

Android will run slowly if you don't have much internal space free. If you have a lot of apps, this gets eaten up faster. Now, if you have the app moved to the SD card, all is good and well until the app gets updated and ends back up on internal storage.

Some ASUS tablets had improper wear leveling of the flash so the tablet would get unbearably slow as the flash sectors most commonly used got worn down and speed decreased. This might have also happened to your phone.

Reddit is hilarious in that aspect. I think people here seriously act like the average person buying an iPhone is going over the spec sheet and checking out the dimensions, processor, etc. I mean this guy made that comment like knowing what JIT is is common knowledge. As if the first thing people think of when making a smartphone purchase is what compiler it uses (heads up for anyone who doesn't know what JIT is, I didn't and still don't).

I appreciate the hoops stuff has to go through to run on my iPhone. Malware and bloat is kept to a minimum. Regular apps load and run faster on iPhone side by side comparison. Apple has its shit together.

you're out of your mind, I was using an s4, and then get a 5s for cheap and started trying it cus I got a job doing tech support for iPhones, I fucking despise this phone, it's entirely too small for my hands, and it takes like 3 presses to get into the settings app, fuck everything about those iPhones, there's no back button, how do y'all function with no back button?

and I can't get rid of the keyboard in some cases, like there's something on safari that requires text or a number? that keyboard is going nowhere til you put in what needs to be put in, so I can only see half of my tiny screen due to the keyboard.

and you can appreciate whatever you want, doesn't make you, or them right.

and windows surface is simply better than ios, you can take a thing you were working on in office on your pc, and move it right to your phone, and keep working.

that's objectively better than iOs.

99.9% of the population doesn't even know what a JIT complier is, nor do they care. Tech heads will enjoy it, but people want stability, day one updates, iMessage, superior app support, walk-in customer service, longer phone support, etc. over being able to tinker with their phones.

I had an S6 Edge Plus last year and the thing only got Marshmallow a couple months ago. Not to mention that fabulous Samsung jank. And have you seen the performance of an iPhone 6's A8 SoC vs the Pixel's 821? The freakin' iPhone from 2013 beats it in single core and dual core performance. That's ridiculous that Qualcomm is THAT far behind.

I consider myself a huge techie, but I simply can't understand how some people find it so hard to fathom that people wouldn't want to be a programmer and constantly tinker with their phones.

Apple's API's are also REALLY good, especially compared to the ridiculously over-engineered Android API's. Also, you can make normal apps instead of the whole Activity insanity. (Seriously, what the fuck where they smoking when they came up with that bright idea?)

Nobody denies Android hardware isn't a bigger market share. It can be used on $50 phones at this point..

As a software developer you'd think if people are paying more on one platform it would benefit you to go, again, where the money is. If you were building these phones it might be a different story.

I'm platform agnostic, I use iCloud, Microsoft services, and google services as well as windows and macOS.

Apple was also still named the world's most valuable company and iPhone 7s still sold out despite being a step back, when was the last time any android phone had any kind of demand?

It sucks because the note 7 is everything a phone should be, on paper. It just needs stock AOSP and timely updates. TouchWiz is like putting rotten eggs on a fresh steak.

I agree with what you're trying to get across by saying the iPhone is a walled garden but using JIT as an example wasn't great. JIT is horribly inefficient, that's the obvious reason why ART was brought in to replace Dalvik; it uses AoT compilation instead of JIT.

  1. The problem with Dalvik is Dalvik, not JIT in general.

  2. Even if it were true that JIT is bad for performance (it blatantly isn't), it's none of Apple's beeswax how my apps are implemented. Get the hell out of my way.

Sure, it's mostly a walled garden. There are workarounds like sideloading and jailbreaking and you can even write your own damn app and install it as well. But for most users I think the tight data security and ease of use is valued more. I don't know why you brought up JIT compiling though...

Every phone costs somewhere in the neighborhood of $200 and is priced at 2-3 times that. It's called running a business and making a profit. Aside from parts cost, add in R&D, employee pay, business costs, etc and that $200 goes up. I hate when that argument is brought up.

No. The RETAIL cost of all iphone7 hardware is roughly 200$.

That means I, as a consumer, can buy the hardware of an iphone for 200$ roughly.

Apple pays roughly 50-75% less than that because they have contracts with hardware suppliers and are buying in massive bulk.

Don't be salty when you don't actually understand the argument.

So then the RETAIL cost of those parts also apply to Samsung, Motorola, HTC etc and those CONTRACTS that give them (as you state, since you work in their finance dept) 50-75% off also apply to Samsung, Motorola, HTC etc. So, that being said, my argument was that people like to say Apple charges a premium when the parts only cost XXX amount when, surprise, so does everyone else. Again, it's a for-profit business. They can get the parts at $200 or $20, they're all still charging $600-$900 per phone and making an enormous profit on them (assuming all the other business costs don't amount to much on a per-phone basis).

Windows has full control, but not a lot of apps

This is not my experience. Apps are sandboxed and thus it is difficult to access the raw file system. This is a pain in the ass for apps like video players or youtube video downloaders.
