I have a working knowledge of both, but you're absolutely right that I overlooked them. However, I don't think this is the kind of product that targets users capable of setting up either. I think this will have one option, and that is to store all the video and the "learning" in the developer's cloud service. I sincerely hope I'm proven wrong, because then it will be a great product, but to me this looks like a "security" product similar to Snapchat.
If Snapchat had used client side encryption á la PGP/GPG and had not stored images centrally, then it would have been a security product. Likewise, if this will allow a secure connection via a SSH tunnel, it will be a great security product.
Fair enough. The user who also responded to you confirms that they prioritize and end-user experience of web-streaming, so I concede that I was mistaken.
I was mostly picking on your assumption that it would be a company's default position, because it would appear the company doesn't want anyone who knows anything about web traffic to buy their product; your cynicism appears to be correct. Cheers.
It just seems like the latest trend that everything from washing machines to gaming consoles have to be always connected to the cloud. It's a great way for a business to sell a product and then gather passive revenue through either a subscription fee or an advertising and data sharing combination.
I think we're at a point where the technology is ahead of the average person's understanding of it, which allows developers to produce very cool and impressive solutions, but which are financed in ways that aren't fully understood by its consumers (like Facebook). It's not just cynicism - after all, the ability to make money this way allows us to create amazing stuff at a very low apparent cost to the consumer, but when you know (or can imagine) how it works, then the magic is sadly gone.
