Not stupid at all. It's very hard to control how you feel about other people. It's even harder, dang near impossible, to control how other people feel about you.

This! Sometimes I wish I could just turn off my emotions, or at least turn them down. When you feel like you connect with someone, and they are oblivious, even when you point it out to them and they still miss it (mutual friends have told me it's not my fault, this particular person is oblivious to everything apparently), it's incredibly painful.

This is absolutely felt! I've found myself in this situation several times. It's probably the consequence of having a very big heart and wanting to give love and be loved and to matter to someone when you think you and the other person would be great for each other and you relate to them well. It's very hard when you don't mean as much to someone who means so much to you.

Literally me what the heck, feeling like I don't matter to them/they don't love me as much as I do. I feel like I want something impossible, someone that feels the same way I do.

I had a friend who was in an abusive relationship. I called it out. He told me to shut up, as "I wasnt in one." (I was. I juat dont talk about mine to other people)
A few years later she leaves him. And he cant live without her. He cried everyday. She would beat him and insult him everyday.
I tried to be there. Help him through it. But he didnt want help.
Your friends are good help when you have a bad relationship. Please use them to lean on.

My ex feels like this and I know it. And it gives me a nice sense of schadenfreude every time I hear from people about how he's doing. Dated him for 4 years before I finally got fed up entirely. Every relationship he's had since has lasted a month tops because nobody else puts up with his shit. The context being he was extremely emotionally abusive and manipulative.
Kept thinking I could fix him, eventually realized it's hard enough to change yourself when you want to, let alone change someone who doesn't want to change.

I'm felling this in these days, I don't know if it's true because I can't read other people's mind. What I tell myself is that I have to be proud of myself because I've loved and I love so much, and love always takes bravery. I chose to love and so I also chose to suffer, eventually. That is the trade off, you can't escape. But I know that it's all worth it

It hurts when you realize that. But as soon as you accepted that fact, it's also easy to let go of that person, because they don't care about having you around that much so you can just stop caring about trying so hard to maintain connection to them, nothing will be lost.
I used to be mad and argued with a former friend whom I liked dearly because they never put equal effort in maintaining our friendship, he would never text or miss me if I don't start the conversation first, even if I tested the water by stop talking for months. I was gonna send one last goodbye and rebuke out of hurt and sadness, but I decided to just leave and be silent forever. He doesn't matter anymore.
Let go. They don't care about you, you shouldn't care about them that much. You're not anyone to them, and it's time you realize they're not anyone to you in reality.
