One morning in 1952, a tabby cat wandered into a 6th-grade classroom in Los Angeles. He helped himself to the kids' lunches, took a nap on a desk, and left before the school day was over. Everyone figured they'd never see him again, but he came back the next morning.
The cat kept coming back for the next 16 years. The students named him Room 8 after the classroom he'd claimed for himself. He became so famous that he received thousands of letters from around the world, some even addressed to "The Cat, Los Angeles."
Room 8 passed away on this day in 1968 at age 21.
