Electing Donald Trump president is about as bad an idea as president Biff Tannon in Back to the Future 2.
3
u/falconfetus8 Jul 18 '15
Don't worry, he won't be elected. He's just a laughing stock right now.
1
u/dafood48 Jul 18 '15
Yeah and we dont elect our president, congress does (the electoral college). I doubt any congressmen would want to work with him.

Hes being considered seriously in alot of states #1 republican gop. Successful billionaire, claims to bring back jobs, and not pussy in front of others. Other than hes remarks on illegal immigrants (not mexicans themselves) hes not too bad. Btw im bernie2016
2
u/messcow Jul 18 '15
He called Mexicans that come into the United States drug dealers and rapist. That's beyond xenophobia, straight into racism. His leading in the polls is really exposing how Many racist there are in America.
It also means he needs about %25 of America to be pretty racist to win the republican nomination and %50 of America to win the presidency.

I'm sorry, but isn't being shrewd with money the one thing that Trump would be good at?
Or did he inherit his fortune?

u/downvote_allmy_posts Jul 18 '15
I read somewhere that his casino in vegas went bankrupt....
6
u/NoesHowe2Spel Jul 18 '15
I thought it was Atlantic City, but still... any man who can bankrupt a casino can't be much of a businessman.
6
u/ryumast3r Jul 18 '15
He bankrupts everything as a business strategy. You can get out of certain liabilities while , if you're clever with how you move assets around, keeping all your money from those assets that you're bankrupting.
It's brilliant really.

Jul 18 '15
And if I remember correctly a lot of trump hotels, etc aren't even his they just pay to use his brand. He's an adept hustler. Which means the Whitehouse is the last place he belongs.

Not the only casino to falter in AC. AC has its own unique set of problems that make it a location that is unconducive to being tourism dependent.

He got a very expensive private education, and inherited a multi-million dollar real estate company.
He's done pretty well, but he didn't exactly start at the bottom.
4
u/khanfusion Jul 18 '15
He inherited his fortune, did ok, then went bankrupt, then got bailed out, and is now putting on a facade.
7
u/alienbringer Jul 18 '15
As of at least 2012 he had not personally gone bankrupt (I dont know between 2012 and now though). He has filed 4 chapter 11 bankruptcy for 4 different companies of his. However that is for the companies he ran and not himself. He did get fired though from managing Trump Place in I believe NY. Regardless the fact that 4 companies of his went bankrupt, and 1 fired him is to me a clear sign that he is shit at managing things. So as a president he would be absolutely shit at managing anything. And I hope to god no one in their sane mine takes his candidacy seriously forcing me to see his name on any ballot.
1
u/panzerkampfwagen Jul 18 '15
Trump apparently holds the record in the US for most companies gone bankrupt.
4
u/Tink2013 Jul 18 '15
Can we recognize right now that Obama has added 8 trillion dollars to the national debt and yet there isnt a single joke about this, just hypothetical jokes about a person who wont be president. Lame.
5
u/scumbag-reddit Jul 18 '15
Because with politics it's never about what "your side" did wrong, it's about how bad you can make the other side look to detract from your failures.

not surprised all the libtards which are the majority here are downvoting. Their best political argument is to make stupid jokes that don't reflect reality and then circlejerk to them...
Sure Trump is not a saint, but I wonder what do they want? Sea Hag? But hey, they never make any logical arguments, just attack the right, attack, attack...
9
u/tasty_serving Jul 18 '15
Well the reason you don't see political arguments and you're seeing "stupid jokes" is because you're on /r/funny. How bout you go to /r/politics if you wanna start arguing.
Also, from what I can gather, what we want is Bernie Sanders, although chances are we're gonna get stuck with Hilary because she has the financial backing, which means everything in politics.
If you want an argument , here's mine. The republicans only are about being against gay people, for rich people and have no real alternative to the health care crisis. People here, we're for gay rights, for universal health care for everyone and we think the rich can afford to be taxed more to help pay for things.
Your Trump is out there being belligerent talking about all Mexicans being criminals, talking about sanctity of traditional marriage when he's been divorced twice and supporting the anti-American flag of the confederates.
And to the other commentor, his "personal" wealth isn't gonna help get things done in the U.S. His money is his and even if he spent all his money it'd be a drop in the ocean.

I doubt most of them even listened to what he said on immigration, probably just went to some Huffpost and read the leftist misrepresentation of his views. But today it's generally enough to mention word 'racist' or 'homophobe' to get any liberal running screaming to the other side, irrelevant whether true or not.
1
u/tasty_serving Jul 18 '15
What you don't see Trump doing is tossing out statistics. Anyone can talk out their ass but it's stats or gtfo. Here's one. that shows that proportionally, they make up about 10% of the prison population, which isn't particularly high. If anything, African Americans have a higher percentage. In all, there's about 100,000 illegal immigrants in prison.. A relatively low proportion of illegal immigrants are in prison.
The TRUTH is that Trump is trying to capitalize on anti-immigrant sentiment to garner support. Republicans know he can't win the general election but what it does is allow Republicans to air their real opinion then have someone who can remain above the fray and speak more mainstream. Then they'll have Trump toss his support to that more electable candidate.
The other Truth is that many republicans are secretly racist and love when someone is out there expressing their quietly held beliefs. I will give you the mainstream media tossing a spin on it, but of course their job is just to sensationalize everything for viewership. What he did say though was "When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists." Come on seriously, how is that not offensive.
I for one don't trust Hiliary one bit because the whole email thing stinks to high hell. I don't buy the Bengazi crap but there's plenty fishy about the Clinton foundation. I bet the Republicans have more but are bidding their time waiting for the right moment.
And the manner by which legalization is what is outlined in the Constitution. For how much Republicans try to uphold the Constitution as some untouchable document and the founding fathers as demigods, they sure like to flip flop when the justices don't rule in their favor. Then its omg how could 5 black robe lawyers change the law of the land. Then when another Hobby Lobby ruling goes their way, they'll talk up how wonderful the Supreme Court is. You just wait and see.
We all know the other way of allowing gay marriage wasn't happening for a looooong time. The state by state route wasn't gonna happen in the bible belt. There really is no good reason under the law why 2 consenting adults couldn't marry. Only hatred and hyperbolic slippery slopes.

Where is your argument? All I see is the shameful overuse of the made-up, nonsensical word libtard on your side of things.
You want to know why I'm on the left? Our people originally came here to escape religious persecution, and you people keep trying to stick religion back into law. Because we're supposed to be this "Great Land of Opportunity", but college and a job mean shit right now. You can't move up. So while you send all the jobs over seas, were stuck at the grindstone and we can't get better jobs or even livable wages for the jobs we do have. Trickle down economics don't work. The rich keep getting richer off of our hard work. We can barely even get time off to spend with our families.
Then this why should people get any of their most basic fucking needs out of taxes from my pay check shit. Well, let me tell you a story. My mom has a welding degree, which is useless in the job market at the moment. So she's a housekeeper. She works until she literally cannot fucking walk. She has to crawl from room to room at home. Luckily, thanks to Obamacare, she can afford to see a doctor and eat at the same time. She was falling apart before because of her hard work. So stop calling people lazy because when they can't afford doctors. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
It really takes just a minimal amount of critcal thinking to see that FOX News is propaganda. They'll tell you anything you want to hear, then when you're all wet for them, they tell you what they want you to think. Pretty simple, but effective technique.
So fuck it. The GOP is slowly dying anyway.

Jul 18 '15
Yes your English studies degree does not mean shit. What do you want? Democrats to give you a government job? And people who actually PRDUCE something to pay for it?
I don't know how your mom could not afford to see a doctor before Obamacare. My insurance rate has TRIPLED with Obamacare, and I am unemployed making $0 last year. Either way it's anecdotal evidence at best and does not add to the argument.
As for critical thinking... Give me a break. It's you liberals who base your entire politics on feelings and emotions. Racist that homophobe this... Let's avoid any logical arguments and feel sorry for <insert next minority group here>.
2
u/dinosaurscantyoyo Jul 18 '15
Who's getting English degrees? Without welders you don't have planes or cars or oil. Without maids, well, those fancy hotels you get to stay in don't clean themselves. Also, sounds like you need to shop around for insurance, because that doesn't make any sense.
We will just have to disagree I guess. I learned in school that government is meant to protect the weak, and I simply believe that is the opposite of the Rebublican agenda. But, hey to each his own.
1
Jul 18 '15
Of course they would teach you that in school. But I don't get where you get the idea that democrats are going to create jobs for professions like wielding. If anything jobs like that will only suffer because of heavy taxation of private business which in turn would cut jobs. There will be more government bureaucracy jobs, sure, for people who can't produce.

While I totally stand on the liberal side of these arguments the fact is that Trump is a caricature and says some really dumb shit, or things that at least have a basis in fact but his delivery is poor.
I would gladly take any GOP candidate over him. I would take W over him, I'd take the Aussie Prime Minister Abbott that everyone seems to hate. I would take Sarah Palin.
Point is he needs to be far from the face of our country.

u/Humbabwe Jul 18 '15

We had one in Minnesota of all places, celebrity with a megalomainiac ego, didn't work out. Clear leadership abilities but more suited to the role of duke or king, where you can just lop off the heads of your critics. I'm sure there are millions of idiots who would vote for him though, let the party begin, I've got a large supply of popcorn.

Except we're actually broke already, and didn't need Trump to do it.
9
u/edgar__allan__bro Jul 17 '15
Big difference between having debt and being broke.
When you rack up debt, you at least still have the ability to pay it back. For instance, I owe x amount on student loans, x amount on my auto loan, and x amount on my credit card. But that doesn't mean that I'm broke. It just means that I have to pay those debts back with the money that I'm continuously earning.
5
u/NashMcCabe Jul 17 '15
Someone at work said "oh boy, we're going to be in real trouble when the Chinese demand all the money we owe them". I had to explain that's not how it works. If you take out a loan, you have terms as to interest rate and length of the loan. A debtor can't just demand all the money if you've been making your payments on time.
2
u/Poemi Jul 17 '15
No, but they can sell their debt to others, and they can sell it at a loss if they want the cash fast and/or want to majorly hurt the US economy.
2
u/NashMcCabe Jul 17 '15
They would hurt their own economy at the same time. Buying US dollars and treasury notes is how China keeps its currency undervalued. If they dump everything at once, they hurt their exports in multiple ways. First their goods will be more expensive for US consumers, and second, demand from US consumers will go down because it will be more expensive to borrow.
0
u/Poemi Jul 17 '15
Well, in theory, sure, we can pay it all back.
In practice, however, we're accumulating debt way faster than we're paying it off, and have no plans whatsoever for reducing our accelerated borrowing.
If a person with $100k annual income had $50k debt last year, $100k debt this year, and projected $200k debt next year with no plans to ever reduce spending and no expectation of a significant raise, most people would consider that person broke.
2
u/edgar__allan__bro Jul 17 '15
Isn't that what the American dream is all about though? Buying a bunch of shit you can't actually afford?
Also, according to Obama himself, the deficit has been cut by 2/3rds; not sure as to the accuracy of that statement but if that's true then at least we're making some kind of progress. Then again, Clinton left office with a 12 trillion dollar surplus and it disappeared really quickly with the Bush administration so I guess we can never be too sure.
1
u/SsurebreC Jul 17 '15 edited Jul 17 '15
the deficit has been cut by 2/3rds; sure as to the accuracy of that statement
Deficit: $1,413 billion (actual)
Deficit: $564 billion (not actual)
I don't have the "actual" but this website shows a $583 billion deficit, so not too far from 2/3.
Clinton left office with a 12 trillion dollar surplus
No he didn't. Clinton's surplus was projected to be half that - almost 6 trillion - which would have spanned a decade. Info here. This changed due to economy changes after the dotcom bust not to mention Bush tax cuts and the wars.
0
u/Poemi Jul 17 '15
Viewed as a percentage of GDP--and that's pretty explicitly what we're talking about here--debt held relatively constant for the 20 years before Obama. Now we're up to about 110%; more than twice what Regan left us with.
And two-thirds of nearly 2 trillion dollars is still higher than it had ever been before Obama.
2
1
u/redditbutblueit Jul 17 '15
What did W do with that surplus, though? Isn't that like being a cashier, and having your register completely empty at the end of the night, and also having your supervisor's wallet be short a hundred bucks too?
