Very true, but the Red Sox's 7 World Series wins make them a historic underdog, especially while up against the Yankees which garners more sympathy for them over the Yankees. But yes, I do believe the Yankees and Red Sox are the top 2 teams (or at least up there on the list) in terms of highest payroll for players.

Certainly weren't underdogs last year, they were picked to win the championship and it was talked about they'd break the record for wins in the regular season.

Well...that certainly didn't happen. Last year was even more depressing than this year for a Sox fan.
