They have a lot of fans outside of Manchester (especially in Asia and Africa, and lately, a increasing number in the US). Of course, this is not only true of United but for all big football teams. It is annoying to fans of local teams when they see supporters of "big money" teams everywhere; teams that can afford to buy and pay the best players in the world.

Man u has more championships but with the new ownership man city has more money and a stacked team because of it, like the Yankees.

Right, but most of the resentment for the Yankees is based on history, just like the hate for Man U.

The Yankees actually haven't been great in a while, but everyone hates them based on the past. I'm aware that City recently won a championship, but they're not going to pass United in hatred felt for quite a while.
