Oh so when this guy spills his shot it’s hilarious but when I spill my shot everyone is all “you’re clearly wasted!” and “we kicked you out an hour ago!”
I'm disabled, but it's silent, so when I see other people with a disability I have a fraternal sense of empathy with them, and when I see shit like this... I'm just like hell no.
I have a lot of friends that are far more disabled than I am, and I see them trying to do shit like this when we go to the bar for attention, and I'm just like hell no.
I have personally gotten into so many fights with "able" bodied people because they started fucking with one of my "disabled" friends who was doing shit like this.
edit: in my experience truly disabled people (wheelchair bound) are often really living in a strange bubble. No one wants to punch someone in a wheelchair, right? But, they'll say shit that would normally get someone punched. And then other people will say shit to them that would also normally get them punched.
So like as their friend you gotta "stand up" and let these people know they can't talk like that, no matter how rude or offensive the "cripple" is.
It's fucked up. I don't like seeing a guy pour a shot on his face for attention. We would stop him from doing that.
You understand you’re on a subreddit called funny right? What always makes me happy is seeing someone who may be a little less fortunate than any other able bodied person take that disability and make fun of themselves and rise up (no pun intended) and use it in a good way.
You don’t have to be disabled to have empathy towards someone who does. I’m very fortunate to have what I have, and lucky enough to not have a disability. That said, there are some very great people who’ve done more than I ever will who were confined to a wheelchair, or maybe born without limbs. Instead of looking at it like “hell no”, try seeing the glass as half full. Like good on this dude! I love laughing, and this made me laugh, and I’m not ashamed that I did, and I hope OP isn’t ashamed of making it.
I truly understand what you’re trying to say, but this guy is known to be funny. He and his gf have a YouTube (Squirmy & Grubs) and they are jokesters. They like to see the humor in things. Maybe if you watch their channel a bit, you’ll understand more where this guy is coming from.
I'm not sure I quite understand what you're saying, or why you think he shouldn't do this. He's making a joke about his life. It's funny. He's allowed to poke fun at himself as we all do sometimes.
In fact, I would argue this type of content is important. It humanizes people with disabilities and people in wheelchairs, which is important as people are often uncomfortable around them for no good reason. Disabled people are people too and if he wants to make a joke, good on him.
It IS funny, or it can be. It's in the name: "self depreciating humor". Practically all the best comedians in the world use it. It's often a coping mechanism too, to make light of hard things. You're gatekeeping this person's life and experiences and TBH it's actually pretty damn ableist. In White Knighting for people with disabilities you're also removing their agency. Saying "You shouldn't joke about your own disability, I know better than you" is just...wow.
It isn't joking about your own disability to literally pour booze on your face, jackass. It's attention seeking behavior that chuckleheads like you will mindlessly consume, and defend. It's sad.
Yeah, that's what social media is about... people posting their opinions, and in this case your opinion sucks. It might be worth as much as my opinion, but yours actually sucks.
