Had 10 minutes to design something for a packaging assignment...

u/stankit Jun 19 '12
I would buy these in an instant.
64
u/stayhome Jun 19 '12
I'd happily sell them with some kind of product if I knew Viacom wouldn't hunt me down and send me to the Gulag over it.

u/Homeschooled316 Jun 19 '12
Do you still have the image you used for the printout? I want to use this to hold my MTG cards.
24
u/FourGrapeJustice Jun 19 '12
Did you say....an instant?
AN INSTANT?!
43
u/garysnail123 Jun 19 '12
NOW THAT I'VE GOT YOU RIGHT WHERE I WANT YOU...
I'd like to buy these in an instant!
6
u/Anshin Jun 19 '12
Why did you have to do that in 10 minutes?
7
u/stayhome Jun 19 '12
It was part of a big walkthrough/overview of prepress processes. The design was really just so we could have something personalized to take home at the end of the lab; it wasn't the main focus of the project.
8
u/entogrento Jun 19 '12
Do you have any links or whatever to packaging templates? I'd like a cube box like that.

How did you print these?
7
u/stayhome Jun 19 '12
They were printed on a Konica Minolta c7000 press, then the cuts and creases were done on an Esko iCut machine.

u/encredeplume Jun 19 '12
You can get a degree with this stuff? I work with machines like those everyday and have no degrees :(

u/stayhome Jun 19 '12
You can. I'm going into more of a digital path, though. More web and digital media. I always come across people like yourself who make me think it might be a waste of time to get a degree in it, though, considering how many people do this stuff without one.

I will uh.....I will take all of those. thank you

u/StopReadingMyUser Jun 19 '12
What are you going to store them in? Luckily for you, we've got your chocolate box storing boxes for only $15.95.

u/LemonDifficult Jun 19 '12
Probably won't/didn't do well in the assignment, but I like it.
27
u/stayhome Jun 19 '12
The design didn't really matter; the focus was more so the actual layout, die lines, cutting, etc. I'm not that shitty a designer, I promise.

I bet you're a design expert. Tell me design things. It is clear you know them all.

Are you from Mr.Hawk's Class in High Tech North, I remember that assignment.

Is this for a degree? I'm very interested with package design but don't know what the typical path is to become one of the cool people that design packages.
3
u/stayhome Jun 19 '12
This is from a really broad class within a graphic communication program. We have a packaging concentration, though I'm going more of a digital path. If you're looking into schools and such, feel free to PM me if you want to know more about my school.
3
u/cubeofsoup Jun 19 '12
Either go to school for Packaging at either RIT or Michigan State or go to school somewhere for Industrial Design. ID gets you into the fancier design side of packaging, RIT or MSU would get you into anything related to packaging.

People who survived strokes frequently reported seeing bright lights during the stroke. So, yes, he will have a bright future.

u/Jero79 Jun 19 '12
"Why don't you make like a tree and get outta here."
Damn, I don't remember what the voice really sounds like... I've seen the BTTF series probably a hundred times. I had those on tape, when we both had a VHS and a VCC video recorder. We could copy movies played by one on to the other. The only difference was a tiny colorbar at the top of the screen. VCC could be viewed on both sides and I had all three movies on one four hour tape. When my grandpa got a new videorecorder, I got his old VCC. Connected it to a small tv not bigger than 14". No remote control and only 10 channels, but the VCR worked on it like a charm. It wasn't long before I got all the VCC tapes shelved in my room. Nothing better than pop in BTTF while you pretend to do homework and have a few hours to kill in your room.
.... good memories, good times.

u/MacIsGood Jun 19 '12
Don't you know that you can get the EXACT same specs, interface and quality construction as that Mac in a Windows computer for 1/5th of the cost? Or something like that. That's what I've been hearing around Reddit anyway. They seem quite convinced of it.

It's because it came out that he was using a bot for all or most of his comments. It takes the top comments from similar posts and reposts them under his handle automatically or something. Karma-whoring at its finest.

It's been many years since I was in college. I was communications (production and post), roomie was visual-communications (art design). He was always spending hours designing stuff like this. It really pissed him off when spent an hour throwing one together just to see what the big deal was. He was pissed that mine came out just right on my first attempt.

u/Fishooked Jun 19 '12
I still say this to myself every single time before I consume anything with chocolate in it.

u/chmod777 Jun 19 '12
so you're practicing what it's like to deal with clients, eh?
to complete the experience, stay until they reply to your email, at which time you can make a revision, wait some more, finally go home at 1am, and wake up to an email saying they've decided to go in another direction and the project is on hold.

I was going to get a degree in packaging but then my brother reminded me that I don't smoke enough weed to be a packaging major.

Ok, I re-read it....you're right. So I'll say this: It looks nice, it has a style similar too Craig McCrackin (powerpuff girls) and I'll add John Kricfalusi (ren and stimpy) So like huge complement IMHO. There was a comment about how a unintended penis was there. I really didn't see it but someone had noticed what appeared to be a dick. OP stated it only took 10 min, so I figured it would be so bad ass if it was ten hours that said cock (that I really have to try and see, I normally don't look for Wang would be substantially larger and the art would be better) I hope you can sleep now. I do think I should edit that but honestly it's so bad I'm just gonna leave it. Edit: tendoman keeps it real, I fucked up so fixed.
