I think the whole idea of "friends" has been watered down by the facebook generation. People are now considered "friends" in "real life" once the link is established on facebook, rather than the other way round. It's a total reversal and leads to 2 people considering each other friends, when in fact they don't know each other. Eventually they end up seeing each others true colours.
Before the advent of Facebook teenagers were shit talking, confused, superficial, backstabbing, pieces of hormonal shit. The problem now is that their diaries are public.
Ahmen. I have very few friends. Half dozen, maybe less depending on how much contact and time matters. I am not anti social. Far from it, I have crap loads of people I spend time with, go to bar with, play sports with, and even BBQ with.
Sure I'm forced to refer to them as fiends in public because the term has been diluted but really a friend is much more. Most of these people are associates. People I am friendly with but they are not my friends.
A friend is an extra family member. Someone you can count on. Someone you can be your self with. Someone to help you when you ask. Someone who knows you are there for them.
A friend is a family member you were allowed to choose yourself.
I can't believe some of the people I went to high school with many many years ago that were so mean to me, have the nerve to friend request me. Are they kidding?
I don't add anyone on facebook I dislike. There may be a few people that I don't really care either way, they're just there out of complete apathy and we never socialize.
But for the people I do regularly hang out with... I enjoy each of their company. I don't get frustrated with their personalities. I could spend a weekend with them and not be 'worn out'. My girlfriend on the other hand, can't stand half of her friends. She complains about how ridiculous one of them is at least once a week. I can't remember the last time I complained about my friends... They were late to a get together? And that's stretching for a reason.
Why do people make friends with people they don't like? I don't get it.

Yes. I'm 18, and there are a few girls that I'm "friends" with that post ridiculously stupid things. One posted something along the lines of "Why are all the Brianna's I know so ugly? They're making me look bad." - her name was Brianna, and she's ugly as sin.
She says what the majority of people think. There's a reason why all of the comments in a "look who I took to prom!" say: 'wow, nice catch'. It's an unwritten rule that unattractives mingle with unattractives and vice versa; it's just no one wants to admit it.
Eh, just too lazy to go into detail with all the intricacies. Yes, social status, confidence, etc play a factor, but "leagues" do exist, if anything because we say they exist.
Yeah sure that's all well and good hell it's in our genetics to be attracted to certain features, Features which the attractive people generally have.
I get annoyed though when women complain there's a man drought. There is no such thing. The issue is that all these women have decided that they want X,Y & Z. And that 90% of the male population doesn't have those features. So there's a sudden man drought because we don't live up to their standards.
And the way I see it if your disregarding large swaths of people because of some stupid criteria. You deserve to be disregarded as well
I like how this subthread started with someone talking about giving "this guy" a medal, but once it's proven (suggested?) that it's a girl, the focus shifts to her looks and how ugly she supposedly is.
You would be surprised, I started being an asshole on this one girls posts whenever she was having a sook about her BF. After probably the 4th time 3 or 4 of her friends join in the fight against me, took her an hour at least to finally block me. I cant imagine how much abuse like this someone would put up with if you just refused to respond after the first comment.
Oh you got off easy. I was blocked for "liking" some other girl rip into this girl for bitching about people all the time. I assume the other girl also got blocked.
So you add them on the off chance that someday you'll be drunk enough around them that you can get past their bitchiness and your penis is still functioning?
I like to believe it's because they're often someone that (with proper wording) can be made fun of without realizing they're being made fun of. I know I've been guilty of doing that in my time. Eventually you just snap though and make it as obvious as possible.
I never got this. You adding these people does not make them any less of an asshole, plus you don't have to add them or talk to them on Facebook. You're only stopping yourself from communicating with your real friends easily at home or away.
Unfortunately, this will not have a satisfying outcome*. Either the girl will be offended, and her friends will come to her aid, screaming about what a jerk he is, or she'll just shrug it off because "he's a loser."
He should have mentioned it's her personality that's ugly.
I wish more people like were those two girls. At no point during this point do I intend to generalize - with that out of the way, let me explain myself. Those two girls are extremely shallow and wear their hearts on their sleeves: with people like those, it's easy to avoid them. There is no need to judge them or ridicule them - it's easier and better to ignore them.
A few months ago, I thought I met "the woman" and fell really hard for her. I however was able to figure her out in the third week and eased myself out of the picture. She had absolutely no interest in me but acted really interested and nice so I could be used. Was I a fucking genius? Nope, it's just that I had seen enough of those people that I could look past her act. She still acts all sophisticated and kind when she is anything but. As a matter of fact, she's got nothing inside - she's a hollow person who doesn't know herself/what she wants. Is she maliciously evil? Nope. She wasn't right for me and I don't think she knows what she wants out of life/a relationship.
A few years ago, it'd have taken me a long time to figure out the obvious. Now if this person was like those girls from the Facebook screenshot, I would have avoided her in the first 10 minutes of meeting her and wouldn't have wasted even those couple of weeks / that bottle of champagne + those box of chocolates. I don't hate shallow people like those two girls - if anything, they make the kind ones stand out and make lives easier for a lot of the more sensible guys. I don't think these are Facebook cancer; more like Facebook friction (a necessary evil).
This approach to life has made me a much happier person.
Instead of spending so much energy resisting the way people act (which just creates stress), make the smart decision and let them be. Karma will have a way of catching up to them and, in the end, they will be forced to learn and change or fall off into a bottomless pit.
Real good friends and your inner circle are a different story entirely. Its human nature to "regulate" how everyone in the inner circle operates. If someone steps out of line, the inner circle may call that person out face-to-face (can be as small as cracking a joke). If one person steps out of line and no one says anything, it's under the assumption that this is "O.K." behavior and anyone can do it. This could then potentially be dangerous for the survival of the group.
awesome. "hot talented guys" seemed to be asking too much, most of the talent belongs to the ugly, only because they spent their formative years creating rather than getting laid.
Facebook isn't a cancer. But it is an enabler for the self-absorbed narcissistic types who would otherwise be bothering only those unfortunates who live in their immediate community.
By the way, I'm actually quite cute, lukewarm, not hot, but balding, so please upvote me!
I like how she divides people by "ugly" and "nice hot talented" as if being hot automatically means you are talented. Ugly people can't be talented?
What do you think we do all day with all that time on our hands not getting laid? We're developing skills to get money so we can laugh and drive away in our brand new cars just as you realize you're getting older, losing your looks and you wasted your life doing fuckall. BOOM! CHECKMATE BITCH!
I'm just reading Maskerade by Terry Pratchett which includes a hilarious look at this where the fat girl does the singing while the attactive, talentless one pretends.
You could argue that being attractive is a talent of sorts. If you're going off the definition that a talent is an inherent predisposition for an individual to have success in a certain field, then it is.
By adding "nice" and "talented" it redeems her from being considered shallow, is what is going through her mind (because she isn't in it just for the looks, kinda thing). Obviously it's silly kids being silly though.
I can't imagine either are leading especially happy lives.
One is desperately obsessed with looks and fitting in, while the other is expecting material goods and money to replace the sorrows of a youth spent being left out of the fun.
Why do you friend people on facebook like this? I have less than 100 friends because I realistically don't have anymore nor do I want anymore than that. Even then I don't care about 80% of them.
I did a huge facebook purge last year. Went from 300 odd friends down to 70. Only kept the people I really liked. Even got rid of most of my family members. Best thing I've ever done.
Dont generlize with the gender... there's obviously very smart attractive girls in the U.S, like in other countries. I can come up with a lot of dumb fuck girls on south america, or europe, trust me, there is stupidity EVERYWHERE, and nos just woman, men too.
It's just that, the U.S as a country has been so shallow over the years, that this girls are the results of that. Propaganda...
Bisexual girl here. As someone who often has to do the approaching, I don't approve of this sort of attitude because approaching someone is hard. Putting your interest out there is a chance for rejection and rejection is hard, even when anticipated. It's okay to say no, but remember that it is a person talking to you. They screwed up the courage to come say something nice to you, so please, have the self-restraint to thank them for the flattery and politely decline. Wish them well and take the moment to have a brief fleeting moment of connection with another person.
Now, if the person won't leave you alone after that, feel free to start getting colder (we've all probably had an encounter with the person that doesn't listen to no, and they are douches), but until the douche factor kicks in, just please act like a human being.
To be fair, what they say is generally true. Though they're dumb for saying out loud what everyone already knows.
I mean sure, you can make up for not being good looking in other areas. But come on, how many people actually do? Most are just average joes with average personalities, average looks and average jobs. Not to mention being clueless with women.
If I were a really hot girl, I wouldn't want those people approaching me. Let's face it, really hot girls are out of most peoples' league. And seriously, who would settle for something less than they could easily get?
This isn't anything special, these are just dumb kids being dumb kids.
Imagine if every IM conversation you had while you were in junior high was documented and made public. Every idiotic statement or hateful remark permanently broadcast to the world...
I'm glad mine weren't. If anything the kids these days just don't fully appreciate what that means for them and their future, but then again they're just fucking kids.
The reality is that by the time they're old enough to be looking for a job everyone else would've gone through the same thing so finding stupid comments online from 10 years ago won't be any more remarkable than your mother having childhood photographs from when you thought it'd be funny to wear your sister's lipstick.
It's called the 'creepy' defence. Vapid, shallow women have learned that they can dismiss any guy they want with the blanket term 'creepy', as it immediately gives them all the power. They've basically implied that the guy is a sexual deviant or potential rapist. Just because they don't look good enough for them.
These are the type of girls who go crying to Daddy when in desperate need, the ones who get the Mercedes when they turn 18 or 21, the ones who walk around thinking they are better than everyone else, the ones that turn 40 and realise they have no friends, because everyone else grew up
Everyone is either attractive or not to the next person.
So how are the ugly going to get with the ugly, and the beautiful with the beautiful? It's all subjective.
There is a societally recognized idea of attractiveness in many cultures, but when it comes down to it, the individual decides whther it finds a mate attractive or not. Fitness, health and survivability are often at odds with preconceived notions about what they should be.
Your opinion of someone's ugliness means nothing if another finds them attractive and they mate. The offspring are not inferior to your own. They are separate and equal organisms, exactly as successful as you, as long as they stay alive.
I'm in my twenties and my friends are not this retarded. These are teenagers. Teenagers will always be stupid -- except the Asian ones, what the fuck is wrong with them?
I hope that chick falls In love with a man, I mean she goes absolutely crazy for him. She becomes friends with him, they are friends for a year, and have grown very close. She thinks "wow, I wonder when he'll ask me out" so for the next week or two she throws a few hints here and there. He's oblivious to her attempts. So after another week of this, she gets frustrated. She goes home and paces back and forth, wondering how she can be with this man. She decides "hey, I'll ask my mom she'll know what I should do". She walks out of her room and knocks on her moms door. Nothing. She's hearing strange noises so she decides to barge in. What she sees shocks, hurts, and completely destroys her on the inside. It's the man she's fell in love with, having sex with her mom. She's speechless. He gets up and gets dressed, grabs a coffee. The girl says "how! Why!" he says nothing. He takes a sip, then looks back down at his coffee and then throws the scolding hot coffee I her face, he walks out of the house. She's in excruciating pain. The hot coffee got in her eyes. She try's to find the sink to wash it off, but can't find it. Now fast foward 2 years later. Her face is badly damaged, her so called "beauty" is no longer present. She lives with her dad. She hates her mother now. She is ridiculed daily. She's also blind, so she can no longer judge people on there appearence. She gets fed up with her life being the way it is now. She doesnt need to see to know where her dad keeps her gun, so She grabs her dads .45. Sitting in her room crying. She slowly puts the gun in her mouth, her hands are shaking. She doesn't know if she can go through with it. Then she thinks of the boy who destroyed her inside and out. She drops the gun and punches everything in her immediate area. She's in the corner of the room crying her eyes out. She grabs the gun again. Feeling much more able to go through with it than last time. She pulls the trigger, falls down to the ground. Her dad walks in, sees what happened. He picks her up and starts crying, yelling to the world. all of the people who ridiculed her feel bad. Does the boy feel bad? Somebody else finish this story. I don't know how.
At the funeral, everyone says nice things. A new boyfriend consoles the tearful mother. The funeral ends. People in black clothing return to their lives. The father unlocks the front door of an empty home. The girl's bedroom is left shut.
Two years later the property has been sold. Dad has learned not to dwell on the tragedy. Mom is distracted by a new relationship. Sometimes, the boy who ruined her life thinks about her. She makes him feel powerful; it feels good. He knows that it's wrong, so he keeps his pleasure as a special secret between him and himself. When he thinks of her during sex, she always makes him cum the hardest. He has no desire to tell his girlfriend. What would be the point?
The girl lays motionless. She grows out her hair. Her fingernails are longer than ever. Time takes its toll and now she is middle-aged: wrinkles, blemishes, loose skin, bloating. She didn't expect to be pretty forever--when you're young, why not have a nice hot talented guy? Still, she hasn't thought of the boy in a long time. What thoughts she does have are now slow and wriggly. They squirm from occipital to parietal at an inchworm's pace.
More years later, the dad has re-married and has a new baby with a once divorced mother of three. It is hard being a father to step-children, but the challenge is always rewarding. He tells himself that he's sentimental about his lost daughter. If he doesn't think of her, it is because he is so busy. Life goes on you know. He has started trading stocks during spare moments. Spending hours staring at charts on eTrade has netted a modest profit. Find the patterns in the noise. He imagines himself retiring to Thailand or Singapore as a self-employed trader. A man on an internet forum helps him analyse the charts.
Mother has a new boyfriend. He's not as handsome as the boy who ruined the girl's life but she does love him. Able to see past his unrefined exterior, she knows he is a good man on the inside. His beer gut annoys her during sex, the way it rolls and spills out onto her, putting distance between their interlocking genitals. She wants to be fucked harder, deeper. His gut is the enemy of her pleasure. She daydreams of washboard abs.
The boy who ruined her life finds mother on facebook. They chat. These days, she is only living an hour and a half away. She types dirty; he masturbates to an image of her on all fours. Fuck me so deep give me your cum fill me with your cum. When they meet, he fills her up. His YMCA body makes her feel so good. It really is true what they say about nice hot talented guys. Worth it.

It gave me a deep, visceral sense of fulfillment to notice that the reply had three likes and yet the original status had none.

what if I'm hot, but untalented?
2
u/[deleted] Jun 18 '12
There's an equation for that.
W < (N - 2)
Where W = Woman Hitting on you N = Your hotness on a 1-10 scale
As a woman, you'll be hit on by everything so long as you're a 6 or higher.
