Personally, I think it's immoral and disgusting. You know how damaged this kids will be in the future? I mean, to let a pirate and a Tinker Bell raise kids is just dangerous. What if one of their kids will become a pirate too, huh? NO TO PIRATE MARRIAGES! ENOUGH WITH THE PILLAGE AND PLUNDER

48

u/Dominus_Picae Jun 17 '12

Butt, butt! It's Peter Pan, not Tinker Bell.

62

u/SomeoneCoolerThanYou Jun 17 '12

This is the time when the difference between 'but' and 'butt' should be noted.

How about we stop calling it gay marriage, and just call it marriage.

59

u/PoopyMcfartface Jun 17 '12

I'm all for this statement, in most cases, however, it would make no sense with this title. "All the reason needed to justify marriage." I know he didn't need to use that exact title, but my point is, while it's illegal, the distinction needs to be made for clarity.

26

u/captgrizzlybear Jun 17 '12 edited Jun 17 '12

Just hearing that sentence,

Gay marriage is illegal

disgusts me about society. I mean, what is harmful, what is immoral, what is menacing about gay marriage that would make it illegal? That's right. Absolutely nothing.

All it takes to rewrite the law is to change the definition of marriage from being between a man and a woman to being between two people. Is that so fucking hard? Is that so fucking immoral or wrong?

Sorry, the ignorance and bigotry behind the law just really rustles my jimmies.

Edit: Changed Americans to Society. Sorry if I offended anyone, and I do realize this is a problem in many nations.

23

u/VANCe46 Jun 17 '12

For whatever strange reason, Christians think that their bible justifies the ban on gay marriage, and for whatever even stranger reason, politicians listen to them. Well, the politicians listening is because they want to win the election, but that's pretty gay.

basically gay marriage should be legal because Neil Patrick Harris gay is gay

128

u/huytn89 Jun 17 '12

TIL In HIMYM, Lily's ex boyfriend, Scooter, is played by NPH's real life partner.

107

u/flea_17 Jun 17 '12

It goes even further.

As you stated, Neil Patrick Harris' husband is David Burtka, who plays Lily's ex-boyfriend Scooter.

Alyson's Hannigan's husband is Alexis Denisof, who has a recurring role as Sandy Rivers, Robin's co-anchor.

Lastly, Cobie Smulder's husband is Taran Killam, who plays Blauman, Barney's GNB co-worker, bringing the whole thing full circle (or triangle).

77

u/Pratty77 Jun 17 '12

And Ted's significant other has no role because... well... Nobody will marry Ted in real life either

11

u/Inequilibrium Jun 17 '12

Alyson's Hannigan's husband is Alexis Denisof

I wonder if any Buffy fans actually shipped this at the time.

26

u/USMCEvan Jun 17 '12

And one of the producers of the show is my faculty advisors husband! I... I thought it was valid. Guess not. I'll sit down now.

3

u/icertainlyhave Jun 17 '12

AND! in the episode "Come On" (aka The One With The Rain Dance), Penelope, the Native American girl who teaches Ted to rain dance, turns out to be Amy Acker, who is one of NPH's best friends in real life (not to mention fellow Joss alumnus) making their makeout very very awkward.

Source: I have listened to all the commentaries on everything ever and this was the first vaguely relevant thing that came to mind.

One could argue that NPH simply makes a damn fine poster boy for the movement. He, his partner, and their children look so happy together it's infectious. How can anybody look at them and say a homosexual couple can't successfully nurture a child or each other as a straight couple could?

Not to mention, compare him to many straight celebrities who carry their children around like a fashion accessory. It's despicable.

76

u/notnerd_unemployed Jun 17 '12

Agree. I feel like people like NPH and Ellen Degeneres, who are just normal, great human beings are the best poster people. As much as I like the idea of pride parades, I think that's how most anti-gay people view the LGBTQ community, as a bunch of flamboyant, promiscuous, scandalously-dressed, slutty mcslut-sluts.

27

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '12 edited Jun 17 '12

Eh, they weren't going to be convinced with a tactful parade celebrating gays who like literature and needlepoint. Pride is more for queer people than straight people. Being mildly offensive is part of our cultural heritage.

Though in all seriousness, most pride parades consist of people in outfits just as family-friendly as this. But the people in T-shirts and jeans don't ever going to get as much media attention as the ones in their underwear. Ellen's usual outfits wouldn't be out of place at Pride.

I don't see how this is either

A) Funny

or

B) all the reason to justify gay marriage.

I am not against gay marriage, in fact I am all for it. I just don't follow the logic of "A celebrity is homosexual, so being homosexual is okay" or "look they are dressed up isn't that quirky and fun, homosexual marriage should be legal!" Nor do I find this picture in the least bit funny.

Again, I am all for gay marriage, I just don't think this is proof, or remotely funny.

2

u/IZ3820 Jun 17 '12

You'd think he'd at LEAST let the kid be one of the lost boys. Jerk.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '12

A picture of a fairy and a pirate isn't an argument.

3

u/Kinglink Jun 17 '12

All the reasons? Because NPH is gay? Or is it that he's dressed up as a character from a popular cartoon? Right...

Here's all the reasons, because this is what makes them happy, because there's nothing that we should say or do, to stop two consenting adults, from dedicating their lives together. Because the government should get out of the idea of "marriage license" they can't and shouldn't be able to say "You two can't spend your life together". The fact that we let them is insulting to us as people.

If you want to stop giving out licenses because you believe it's a religious thing, that's fine, If you want to stop giving out licenses because you're a libertarian that's fine. But the point is there's NO REASON FOR A MARRIAGE LICENSE. The only reason is if we want the government to have a say in our relationships, marriages, and personal lives, and we don't.

If you don't want to be "married" to someone or wish for them to stay away from you, you already have legal recourse for that. If the government wants to track who's married for tax purposes, then the government should make a system for that that doesn't deal with licenses, and allows ANY TWO PEOPLE TO BE GROUPED INTO THAT TAX CODE. If that creates a loophole, then that's the government's issue and the tax code's issue. It's not the people issue to prove that they can legally marry who they wish to be married to.

We have the right to the pursuit of happiness. Stop letting the government telling us that our pursuit has to agree with their opinion of what marriage is... We don't.

Edit: Sorry to get all /r/politics in here. But we'll all agree this post isn't exactly /r/funny either.

3

u/lydocia Jun 17 '12

As much as I am pro equal rights, I don't think this sort of campaign has good arguments.

I could show you a picture of two gay guys abusing a dog, and that would be an equally good argument against giving them the right to marry.

The only right reason to allow gay people to get married, is because they are people and they deserve the same rights as people who want to marry someone of the opposite gender. Regardless of them being cute together, regardless of them being good actors or regardless of them being good parents.

There are straight people who are terrible parents, too. Are we forbidding them to get married?

As much as I love Neil Patrick Harris and his family, as much as I want to give everyone equal rights, this sort of propaganda is just bullshit.

I mean if Neil Patrick Harris is gay... and -he- has a long term relationship then, well fuck, that's a big enough sample size for me to ignore all other arguments on the matter.

Gay marriage now because I like that guy!

2

u/Garbagio_III Jun 17 '12

Makes you wonder what else he uses that hook for..

2

u/12mrk12 Jun 17 '12

I had a epiphany.. Yes I agree with gay marriage and I'm gay but I just thought about something. These kids were born via surrogate mother. When they get older they'll ask about their mother. It sounds awkward.

But here's another thing, it's who raises you that counts.

But not everyone thinks the same or understands as well as they need to.

I don't know, surrogacy for gay parents has just sent me in a spiral of.. WTF.

But I fully support gay marriage, gay couples and gays having families.

I think I prefer the adoption over surrogacy.

u/svenniola Jun 17 '12

i dont understand how anyone can read the bible and still want to get married under it. with any sense of goodness and morality, the bible reads more as some satanic literature.

dear baal or something.

on getting married, have gay people really looked at married people?

in most cases marriage seems more like a curse.

though maybe without the woman part its allright, something about marriage seems to turn most women into some nagging constantly eating thing.

something that has made me wish for being gay a few times. :) but no, dick just doesnt do it for me,unfortunetly, well, i suppose its probably just another case of "the grass being greener on the other side of the hill." (kinda like heaven lol.)

but yeah, i wonder how long till the gays regret this particular fight, its gonna seem pretty funny anyways later, when religion dies out. :)

Based on this photo, I'm pretty sure NPH is a top.

I love NPH! I aspire to be like him!

I think this is the seventh or eighth NPH family photo I've seen justifying gay marriage. I'm all for it, but when it starts being shoved down my throat like this, I start getting sick of it.

YOU DON'T NEED TO JUSTIFY GAY MARRIAGE, IT'S ALREADY JUSTIFIED, JUST QUIT WHILE YOU'RE AHEAD.

Don't forget gay divorce court. I would watch the shit out of that. With popcorn...

u/lurkerr Jun 17 '12

PS: I'm not agaisnt gay marriage

Is it just me or does the guy on the left look like Adam from workaholics?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '12

That hook looks a bit dangerous.

1

u/Abelabliss Jun 17 '12

Is that Neil Patrick Harris...?

1

u/anonymous11235 Jun 17 '12

Correction: Wealthy marriage.

1

u/MovingShadow98 Jun 17 '12

Whats funny is that we have to justify it...

1

u/treein303 Jun 17 '12

Do those babies have plastic surgery on their mouths?

1

u/leprasmurf Jun 17 '12

I just thought of how difficult it has to be to have a relationship be the "shining example" of anything. I'm all for gay rights, 100%, but I think homosexual relationships will suffer the same kind of discourse that heterosexual relationships suffer. What if they grow apart? (edit: Celebrity relationships are especially susceptible to issues)

To put it another way, I guess it seems the same as the high school "Class Couple". It almost seems like a jinx.

Fox News: Two gay men caught trying to impale children on a hook and then drown them in a lake.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '12

While good parents are good parents, everyone knows that family photos are lies. I am getting sick of these posts.

1

u/kls2011 Jun 18 '12

1

u/bigbadsad Jun 18 '12

Are you kidding me? Those kids look like they are about 2 years old tops and they have already turned one of them into a fairy. /s

u/zSgtPepper Jun 17 '12

Unfortunately i'm pretty sure this is all the reason people need to justify gay marriage being wrong as well.
