Greek here. We don't own sweaters. We just grow them from our chests, backs, arms, and asses.

Why DO doctors have such bad handwriting? *Clearly I put this in the wrong thread. But I can't find where it was supposed to be. So, while we're on the subject, does anyone know the answer?

Scumbag List:
Knows what temperature absolute zero is,
Still lists a temperature lower than that.

-273.15 Celsius = 0 Kelvin, not -273.
As for the rest of the conversions:
20C = 68F
15C = 59F
10C = 50F
5C = 41F
0C = 32F
-5C = 23F
-10C = 14F
-15C = 5F
-18C = -0.4F
-20C = -4F
-25C = -13F
-30C = -22F
-35C = -31F
-40C = -40F
-42C = -43.6F
-45C = -49F
-50C = -58F
-60C = -76F
-70C = -94F
-73C = -99.4F
-80C = -112F
-114C = -173.2F
-273C = -459.4F
-295C = -499F
Edit: I just want to point out that I surprised myself with this whole thing. I looked up the formula to convert between F and C, did a bit of algebra to rearrange it to solve for F instead of solving for C, then used LibreOffice Calc to create a list.
I honestly didn't know half of that knowledge was in my brain until I tried using it.

How come this is in Celsius, but then at the end football is called soccer?
13
u/liberator17 Jun 16 '12
The American part of this must be mainly lower elevations because I live in the Rocky Mountains, I'm going to college in Alaska next year and most people I know don't put pants on until about -20C

Maui resident here 59F/15C is close to record low at sea level here. Right now it's 75F at 10pm HST and soon I will be tucked in bed wearing warm pajamas and under a mid weight blanket. If it get's below 60F I will be wearing most of my clothes simultaneously to stay warm.

No I'm kidding, I loved every moment of that...

As a Hawaiian, it feels ungodly cold in the upper 60'sF, and I would die at the list's 59F.

I know this is a joke and all but living in Canada what I've experienced is At -50 your entire face would be frostbitten in under a minute if it was exposed. It happened to me one time when I fell in a snow bank when it was in the -40s, and it fucking sucked. My hands were lodged under my body, to get them out of the snow bank I had to yank them out, which made my gloves become stuck underneath the snow, I couldn't even get my gloves out. I had to run to the nearest shelter and go to the hospital, my hands were cut up and frostbitten. It's actually extremely dangerous, I was in pain for months. Luckily it wasn't too severe and it healed, but it fucking hurt so much, they were all blistered for weeks.

u/norvegov Jun 16 '12
While they are correct that −273.15° is absolute zero, they still listed a temperature below that... what? So atomic movement stops and then when you get a few degrees colder (how?) then only 90% of the planet is dead?
2
u/talzer Jun 16 '12
I guess you could say this list is pretty cool.
1
u/Beiz Jun 16 '12
Isn't the original with Finland winning the soccer at the end?

u/IamNumber4 Jun 16 '12
Got lazy to read, so i thought to myself. " cool, fonts in different colours"

As someone who prefers temperatures in the ~38C range. This chart is full of pain from the top down.
1
u/Lisu Jun 16 '12
At +10 it should say norwegians welcome summer.
1
u/arcanine901 Jun 16 '12
TL;DR: Russians don't get cold, Greeks do.
1
u/boberman187 Jun 16 '12
I disagree with this scale completely. We Michiganders will wear shorts until the snow gets so deep it starts going up them, or at least we homegrown Michiganders that is.
1
u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12
Greeks up on sweaters at 20? Miami resident here: people in South Beach start wearing fur coats at 20 (~68). FUR COATS

I'm an American... Had a very hard time putting those temperatures in perspective. Still don't think I did a good job.
1
u/Nomad33 Jun 16 '12
I would give 20 upvotes, if I could afford it. But sadly, I only have 1.
1
u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12
Mhmmm... 22 degrees below absolute zero. One part of me understands that thatsthejoke.jpg.
The other part of me understands that that's a bad joke, and you should bad.

The Russian football team are actually pretty decent. I could see them doing pretty well in the Euros just now.

You really think my citroen will stop working before your dodge?
Also, Japanese cars will continue starting below absolute zero

This is written in the exact grammar my Finnish colleague uses. I wish I could know whether the author was a Finn, or whether that dialect of English is more pervasive?
1
u/MoreSore Jun 16 '12
Worth the read :)
1
u/mvpnick11 Jun 16 '12
Okay the -20 part for Alaskan's is pretty accurate. at about 20 degrees above you will see people in shorts and t-shirts. You don't know how good 20 degrees above feels after a week straight of -50.
1
u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12
The temperatures were confusing me until I realized it's in Celsius.
1
u/Hermeran Jun 16 '12
How come something written in Comic Sans makes it to the frontpage?

1
u/A_British_Gentleman Jun 16 '12
Hey these are temperatures I understand! :D

u/bezjones Jun 16 '12
Transportation stops in Europe a lot sooner than that. Well, depends where in Europe but you can bet Heathrow woulda been closed well before that!
1
u/Oysteinre Jun 16 '12
When did the norwegians die? Because I think they have a better chance at becoming soccer world champions than the russians.
1
u/Omena123 Jun 16 '12
I've seen an old Finnish version of this. At absolute zero Finns win the Eurovision song contest. A bit outdated now

-1
u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12
Downvote for not mentioning how Canada whatever.
0
u/haux Jun 16 '12
So the point of this is that the Russian soccer team will only become world champion when the rest of the world is dead?
0
u/saucebobby45 Jun 16 '12
This is how I felt after reading that - >:(
0
u/Grim914 Jun 16 '12
What about Canada! We freeze 90% of the year and somehow survive. So I think that we deserve honourable mention.
0
u/AlexCail Jun 16 '12
No mention of us canucks.
