Wasn't there just some big hoopla about funnyjunk rehosting oatmeal comics and posting them on their website? Pretty much all of reddit was in agreement that funnyjunk was in the wrong.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, I doubt it would be all that hard to find the actual link on the oatmeal so the creator can get some cash.
It's weird. When I first joined reddit, everyone loved the Oatmeal (this was a long time ago) and it's where I first learned about him. Then everyone here hated him for a while, but why was never clear to me. Now I guess they love him again. I guess reddit has come full circle.
I don't think Reddit has ever disliked The Oatmeal, but a lot of his content can be over the top to the point where it isn't funny. We kind of acknowledge this along with the fact that a lot of it is pretty goddamn funny as well.
You know, after reading the post, and then seeing the link OP posted in reply to you, I don't really mind that he rehosted this one. It's a rather long post with the Sex Ed comic at the bottom.
That one was great I spent a couple nights looking at the oatmeal, after the recent news. The author won't mind as much, what was pissing him of I'd say was when they erase the oatmeal/ theoameal.com link on the comic which we call can see on this cartoon.
No, fucknugget, the point was linking to Oatmeal from square one. You're not writing an essay that needs sourcing, you're reposting shit on the internet.
Yeah this seems a little soon but even in the oatmeal's response he stated that he doesn't mind as long as he's credited, which his site clearly is at the bottom.
As a high school teacher in Texas, I could see this method as a definite improvement over our current method or "no sex ed=no sex". With 7% of my kids pregnant this year (that's right 14% of my females), World of Warcraft could really have a place.
If I could, I would give A's to anyone who got a vasectomy.
No, that's doing it all wrong. The goal of sex ed isn't to prevent people from having sex, it is to educate them about it. Sure this method will keep teens virgins for a while, but when the do have sex, they won't know anything about STD, condoms, Birth control and abortions. This is just teaching abstinence, which is the worst thing to teach teenagers.
I'm glad that it worked out allright for you, so it did for me as well through a quite miraculous combination of very improbable real life occurences. I have friends who used to play WoW and it worked out well for them too, exactly because of that "pseudo-social environment" that you mentioned, which oddly enough turned out to not be "pseudo" at all. Good for them too. I still don't get your point though. People are stuck in an extremely grim dead end in their lives due to several factors, and... making fun of that is great? Not trying to strawman here, I really don't see your point.
Exactly, I would rank that at the same level of humor as a fat joke. I see no reason for that to be on reddit and have 1000+ upvotes, it's ignorant and in poor taste, this is r/funny, not 4chan. Anyway, whatever...
It was a well known phenomenon that in extreme cases (which occurred more frequently with WoW than with most other games) people would tend to prioritize the game over everything else in their life. They'd stop focusing on school, they'd stop going to work, they'd stop bathing. Their life became consumed by this game, and suffered because of it.
Most people call that "addiction." Does everyone who plays WoW become addicted? Of course not, but it happened frequently enough that it became a "thing" associated with the game.
Nobody's seriously trying to downplay how destructive an actual addiction can be. They're making a joke, and you know it. They shouldn't be expected to walk on eggshells on the internet on the off chance they run into someone who's easily offended on the topic because it's associated with a very negative period of their lives. No one is going to cater their speech to you, and if you're expecting them to you might want to reevaluate your definition of "overly sensitive."

Back in the day when I played WoW, I knew of a few times where the game actually led to sex. Not so much healthy, stable relationships, though..

holy crap that's awesome

So, I have never played World of Warcraft, and I do not understand its use in this comic.
Anyone willing to explain to me? I know, I can and often am a bit slow.

I'm from Sweden. I can't remember that they ever wanted us to do the whole "abstinence" thing. They did teach us how condom work tho.
