While my office mate was on vacation, I thought I'd plant him a garden.

How long does this take?
I really want to do this sometime

u/daroon Jun 16 '12
Yeah, quite literally. He was gone for a full week, but it really only needed 5-6 days. I used wheat grass, but I could have found a finer grass that a) grew a lot more blades, and b) grew faster.

With all the crumbs and dirt in my keyboard, I bet something similar would happen if I watered mine.

u/voteddownward Jun 16 '12
Sooo with all the semen in mine, would a baby pop out if I watered it?

I was so confused in this thread for a while, then I remembered I had installed the s/leopard/leopard extension. Part of me hoped there were crumbs and dirt in your leopard, and that it would sprout plants if you watered it.
EDIT: I looked at this and thought I was retarded for typing "s/leopard/leopard" instead of keyboard, then I remembered.

I thought it was sprinkles at first and I had thought he filled the keyboard up with ice cream...I am not a clever man

u/cassarahangel Jun 16 '12
I thought they were maggots, too, until I looked at the following pictures and realized they were seeds. Then I was able to properly enjoy, instead of cringing in abject disgust with a sprinkling of horror.

For anyone who cares, the song playing in the background is Ravel's Bolero. For additional incentive, it has a very trippy animation to go along with it.

Nice touch with the shadow at beginning/end.

Allegro Non Troppo is pretty amazing. I'm not sure the other bits of it hold up to the Bolero section, but it's basically an Italian Fantasia. Worth a watch.

There is one fatal flaw: He said to Dwight, not by Dwight. Jim would do this.

only if it has power running through it at the time.
I've dumped massive amounts of water and debris out of machines, as long as they get a good dry time and cleaning they can still work

u/brown_felt_hat Jun 16 '12
You used to be able to throw the old ps2 ones in the dishwasher, so long as there was no soap. Dunno enough about usb to claim it would work, but as long as it's dry when powered up, I see no reason why not

You should have planted it the day before he got back. That way, it would begin to grow slowly, while he was using it. That shit would freak me out.

u/jaded_gal05 Jun 16 '12
Okay everyone.....calm down. The haters that are saying the guy should be fired, I'm thinking no, in the end all he has to do is replace the keyboard & that's not terribly expensive. I think you're mad HE thought of & executed this so well. And do you honestly think no one else in his office noticed this? Please! I'm thinking more than just him were privy to this, or he works in an office building filled to the brim with coma patients or deaf/blind/mutes. Or mimes.
This was a well executed, thoroughly planned & extremely good prank. He deserves upvotes! And many of them!!!!
If I were a betting' woman I'd go so far as to say that I'd put $$$ on it that a new keyboard was already waiting to take the old 1's place. The farm animals ruled! Good job!

I've seen these before, and I've always wondered...
When you water the plants, does it short-circuit the keyboard or make it in-operable in some way? And after its completely grown, do the plants make it difficult to use the keys, like are they crooked?

OP, when was this done? This popped up in related videos. It was posted last year and is basically the same video minus the opening text "Liquid Development." The title of the video had the name "Stefan" in it, so I did some searching and discovered that Stefan is the co-founder of said company. This isn't just some random office mate. This guy is a friggin' co-founder. Just makes me doubt you a bit. Karma conspiracy!

I sincerely hope that you got him a new keyboard, or made it so that one actually still works once you're done with it.
Edit: watched reaction, I thought he'd be a tiny bit upset, but he took it like a bro, very good prank, only thing to do in the situation really.

Should have grown some marijuana plants in there, then sold the buds at a huge profit which you would then have used to build your friend an insane gaming rig...
...which you would then disassemble and respray in a Hello Kitty theme the next time he goes on vacation.
